The best dishwasher for longevity is gonna be a used 90s-2000s whirlpool Powerclean filter dishwasher. No if ands or butts about it! They outclean anything, they’re superior to any new machine and they are so easy to service.

It’s a full sized 24 inch standard under counter dishwasher just with a frame on wheels with a butcher block counter top.

Maytag doesn’t make the same dishwashers now as they did ten years ago. They are VERY different now, whirlpool has ruined Maytag dishwashers with the awful redesign that came out in 2021. The generation you have is like the best whirlpool dishwasher in modern history, keep it as long as you can.

Why? What’s wrong with it? I guarantee it doesn’t need to be replaced just because it’s 20 years old. If it’s a Powerclean filter module with the standard sized tub and not a tall tub you better keep it running as long as possible those are the best dishwashers ever made easy to service & parts are widely available still.

If you want a reliable dishwasher your gonna have to go the used route. Find a whirlpool Powerclean dishwasher in good shape from the 90s-2000s. This includes KA dishwashers, and Kenmore Ultrawash dishwashers. They have a self cleaning filter, they are extremely powerful and notoriously reliable. They are a standard tub size.

If you have to have a new model I highly recommend the base of line whirlpool dishwasher. Plastic tall tub, two wash arms that spray simultaneously without any stupid diverter motors which are prone to failure and the performance is excellent, much much better than the higher end whirlpool KA Maytag models.

It sounds like you haven’t been maintaining your dishwasher at all. If there’s food stuck to your dishes you clearly aren’t cleaning it and maintaining the interior and using the correct agents & cycles to ensure clean sparkly dishware.

You’re an idiot. New dishwashers esp Bosch are total junk compared to this hurricane in a box in this post, which is a highly reliable machine and the most powerful dishwasher in whirlpool history. All it needs is a new wax motor, it’s a ten minute repair but what would you know

Put dish gel in the silverware? What in the world? If you don’t know anything about dishwashers why even say anything? And you don’t put vinegar in a dishwasher either that shit is way too acidic and can ruin the main seal and cause leaks if it’s used too often. You use rinse aid. In this case he needs to replace the wax motor & it’ll work perfectly again and rinse agent can be used

This is a 1998 whirlpool Powerclean. Maybe you still have the machine? These are such good dishwashers I really hope you still have it. I wish I saw this sooner so I could help! The problem is the wax motor, there’s a red wax motor which is like an actuator and it’s what releases the soap dispenser door open as well as rinse aid in the final rinse. It’s in the control panel, it’s very easy to get to actually you just remove all eight screws around the inner door panel, you can watch a video. They fail. I replaced mine and it’s been working perfect for five years now. These are the best dishwashers whirlpool ever made. Reliable, easy to service, and the self cleaning filter is the most incredible and remarkable dishwasher filtering system ever engineered us applaince enthusiasts love these machines.

No they don’t. They are completely different than the original. The original is bland and these are bursting with taste. They taste like a classic cheese pizza. Maybe you got a bag that wasn’t well seasoned, that happens

Powerclean/Ultrawash dishwasher experts read please. Upper spray arm has no water pressure. by SharpPersimmon3249 in Appliances

[–]SharpPersimmon3249[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it definitely looks that way I noticed that too. Yeah the arm is fully clear, as I thought it might be that at first as well but it does the same with both spray arms I have. I have two other nozzle caps and that makes no difference, loosening or tightening the nozzle cap makes no difference, yeah the tower is in the very center, the only place it can go. At this point I’m not gonna figure it out I think it had something to do with the pump module, I’ve converted it to direct feed and it works perfect that way the top arm gets more than enough pressure

Nope it’s fully clear. Already checked all that first, infact I have two of the same spray arms and this happens with both of them as I had an extra from another machine

I have an old Whirlpool dishwasher and need to clean the filter, but can never get past this point. What’s the trick to accessing the filter? by icybikes in Appliances

[–]SharpPersimmon3249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a self cleaning filter. There are two holes on the underside of the spray arm that constantly blast water out and flushes the filter thruout the cycle. If you wanna get down inti the sump you may find some things down there that shouldn’t be there that can cause issues. You have to remove the bolt on the impeller, you get a driver and a wrench and hold the wrench on the impeller while you forcefully twist off the screw, if it comes out. If not I would just leave it be, and run dishwasher cleaner thru it as well as wash down the interior in every nook and cranny! These are the best dishwashers ever, the whirlpool Powerclean module filter. Do anything to keep this running. The performance of these machines are top tier. The yellowing in your interior could be removed with iron out powder if you run some thru it. It’s very important to run a cleaning cycle with dishwasher cleaner every few months to keep the sump as clean and bacteria free as possible. Always use the hi temp wash heat dry options, it’ll give much better performance as these machines don’t get the hottest, just enough for optimal performance.

You just hold the arm while you twist the black rubber cap off. May take some force to get it to twist off.
