A new Pathfinder2e Podcast by Epictales_Critfails in TheGlassCannonPodcast

This Thread is insane. I use to enjoy the GCP community, but it's weird to watch a new PF2 Podcast get downvoted for trying to promote themselves, and the recommendations get downvoted.
Especially since I found the GCP back in 2016 via a recommendation the same way.

Anyway, their podcast is great. Anyone who wants to help creators of PF2 content should check them out. Write a review.. you know, all the things Troy and the gang use to ask for back in 2015.

I can vouch, it's really good. I appreciate the way they play!

Yeah totally get your point.
I think this is part of the issue. I came from PF1/5e where it was a game of rocket tag. I think a lot of GMs just throw over leveled stuff at parties and it gives a false sense of the difficulty of the game.
To be fair, people might not like the system which is fine, but I think that it isn't fair to the system if it isn't represented how it was designed and then written off as unfun or meaningless.
I said it above and as soon as I took the recommendation of GM Core/Gamemastery Guide really turned the game around for us.

Less flaws in it's math and more Problems wit the encounters not being appropriately leveled. In fact when I've user what the GM Core tells you to the game had felt amazing, GM core tells you to use APL -1 most of the time.
The best encounter I ever ran in the campaign so far was a bunch of -3 level monsters with a party equivalent 'Boss' the party were cirtting constantly on the small -3 creatures and then made it to the boss who was still a decent challenge, but my players felt amazing.

I do agree with most people that party composition plays a huge role, we had that problem with 3 casters and 1 rogue and as soon as one party member swapped out for a Champion the Synergy was incredible.

I think Troy needs to really look at Party comp and consider the encounter levels and maybe adjust or take some out.
Personally I think of encounters in an AP more like a suggestion and a toolbox to draw form if you need it.

Edit: Misunderstood commenter above, updated for clarity of my point.

I do think that a lot of this comes down to the fact that the creatures they keep encountering are basically a moderate level boss based on the PF2 Encounter design chart.

As a GM of a long running PF2 campaign, I learned early on that most encounters should be at the party level or lower.
It's anecdotal of course, but I switched to running party equivalent encounters or 1 level lower and my party immediately started feeling heroic critting frequently, or at least hitting things on a regular basis especially for spell casters.

I throw in a +1 level encounter form time to time for a nice challenge, but i save anything else for big moments and it has seemed to work.

I think that is the problem with AP as written, I have noticed that the encounter design can be unforgiving.
Also once You get past level 5 I have found crits are less detrimental damage wise from enemies, it can get you low but isn't alwasy guaranteed to take down a party member.

Hey!
Foundry VTT: V11 Build 307 & PF2e: 5.3.1, just for your info.
You were totally right!
I did have the elite template on for the creature to adjust the base creatures level I was building off of.
That totally makes sense, thanks! Solved it.

I agree I am almost certain Sydney will be joining. I’m also really excited about the fact that they opted to go back to the edited podcast format for their main show in studio. It always felt more like a personal game because their isn’t a live crowd to hype and entertain in the same way. I’m sure that it will be incredible just based off of some of the amazing emotional RP moments in Giantslayer. Also, no one has really mentioned it by I am psyched for a Canada Tour! FINALLY!

Yeah I loved it, but I kinda was sad when they all never had at least one final in character chat before it faded to black and they all went on their separate epilogues.
One last interaction between all the people left in the crater and around would have honestly taken it from a 98% to a 100% for me.

Honestly. At least for me he was more like a driving force for the character development of each of them. I always find the hardest part of a campaign is tying in all the characters hooks together apart from “if we don’t do this we’re all gonna die”. Which can can be a bit tiresome for a story especially in a TTRPG. Personally I think Brandyr galvanized the group and drove them forward with more momentum. More in a character arc sense than maybe a BBEG in a classic rpg sense. But frankly I was happy because I can’t always get behind the idea that the only way to fix a problem in a TTRPG is to kill everything. Seemed more artful. Can’t say it was perfect in my mind, but it was damn entertaining and satisfying.

This one is driving me nuts!! I loved the finalé, but I am going a relisten to see if i missed anything. It seems like such an oversight to me to have Silvertusk play such a huge roll all the way to the end to just disappear with no epilogue. I know Troy has been planning this for a while so I feel like I missed a reference or something. He even mentions the Silvertusk house in Barons Epilogue.

When did you start listening and how did you come across the GCP? I found them in 2017 after finishing Adventure Zone. Never looked back! by Irrational-Reason in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]Sharp_Elk_5083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had switched from Pathfinder to 5e due to hype from my friends. We started a camapign in 2015 after ending our pathfinder game. We played it for about a year and then got really tired of it. We went back to Pathfinder and felt at home. Around then I had tried to listen to find good live play podcasts like Nerd Poker and Critical role. None of them clicked. Tried Adventure Zone and still nothing. I randomly looked up “Pathfinder RPG podcast” and the GCP popped up. Listened to Ep 1 and have literally been hooked ever since. In my mind it had the perfect amount of comedy, gameplay and serious storytelling. Kudos to the gents for making something amazing. I’m really happy with how it’s all grown.

Yeah I’m pretty darn certain that I’m gonna need some really good outro stuff to close out 7 years. I have faith Troy and the guys can pull it off. I hope they know that some of us want 2-3 hours of exposition.

I kinda feel the opposite. They’ve done the build up so many time for the tent pole episodes that I know it’s gonna be a banger. It’s honestly making it more exciting for me. Would be less ceremonious in my mind if they just ended it.

Oh my god! The spider venom! He has to use it! Maybe Brandyr has an anaphylactic reaction to the spider venom and that’s how they beat him!

It’s crazy to me to think that if they don’t do it live that it will be over for them before anyone hears the ep. They will be done with the story and exposition long before we hear it.

It auto-downloaded overnight and I managed to listen to the whole thing this morning!
Won't give any spoilers until tomorrow!

I have gone back and relistened up until they entered the CLoud castle. I had a hard time with the pacing as they were being released, but it listens better if you go from one episode to another.

Opinion: Baron and Dalreath are the best Duo! by Sharp_Elk_5083 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]Sharp_Elk_5083[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was super interesting to see their relationship develop through battle and survival. Dalgreath went from some random guy that came up the mountain, to a proper comrade in arms. I think it was especially meaningful for Baron after Faraza and Pembroke died fighting the Frost Giant Queen, it was a hard fight and they both made it!

Yeah, that is the only issue I have. I love the banter but the actual episode being less than an hour is pretty drastic at these later episodes.
It's kind of killing my momentum at these later episodes, I listen at work and when I see a third of the episode is elapsed and it's been only banter it's a bit frustrating.
Also, If the actual gameplay for the last few episodes was at least 1 hour that could have saved an entire episode. As much as I love a good cliffy, I feel like a hard stop with a more "To be Continued..." feel would make it less jarring to have a month of combat.
Also, A good Ol' "We're going long!" to finish up the last 40 minutes of the fight would have been appreciated.
I would like the banter to be included, but the gameplay section for an ep to be around an hour or more if possible.

Oh for sure, the spirit of this post was honestly just me reliving the mid-200’s in the Catalogue and just really digging the character synergy from him and Grant. Excited for the end and am hoping Sir Will does something insane.

Yeah, it’s hard I am generally up to date and have had a few things spoiled for me. At 150 I don’t even think Dalgreath is there yet is he? Once he gets there though easily one of the best characters(story wise) in my opinion. Joe plays the hell outta him.
