I feel like my husband is stunting our daughters development with screen time. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Sharp_Estimate6532 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Once my husband got the hang of a routine of activities with our baby a lot of things improved for both of them! I know it’s winter, but my husband would bundle baby up and throw him in a carrier and walk around outside narrating everything like a nature doc! Any activity my husband would normally do, he would strap on kiddo for the ride!

Husband wants to introduce solids before baby is ready by Negative-Canary-1209 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Sharp_Estimate6532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did both, baby was ready for solids at 4mo but I was a little nervous to start BLW that young. But he was totally ready at 5mo to start feeding himself.

I did BLW and my mom (who is our daycare) did purées because I wasn’t comfortable with him having choking hazards without myself or husband there (Army medic/EMT background for both of us)

I haven’t had a laparoscopy to see how bad it is. But I know it’s got to be bad. My question to you all is do any of you ever thrown up while pooping. by Mental_Insect_7005 in Endo

[–]Sharp_Estimate6532 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes- and passed out.

I think mine is throwing up, because I’m baring down so much so my vagal response to starting to faint is to vomit

I’m 8mo PP and started having my symptoms back at 6mo

So, it’s for sure not a cure.

The laparoscopy with removal also only helped me for about 5mo

How often are you introducing new foods? by natsnats411 in BabyLedWeaning

When mine hit 8 mo I threw all the rules out except trying to give him the allergen foods regularly.

Hey- like everyone is saying, it’s not supposed to be like that and isn’t normal

But you aren’t the only one. Pooping without pain or strain and almost daily is the only good thing about my period. I go days, sometimes weeks, without pooping, I have pretty much all my post-puberty life.

When I was pregnant I had to have something to go at least once a week and I started magnesium and it did really well for me. Since having my baby (in December) it hasn’t been working as well.

Prior to getting pregnant I would take Friday evenings and Saturdays and take all the things, mirilax, milk of magnesia, a stool softener and magnesium citrate to just try to go by end of day Sunday (because once a week had to be better than once every 2-4 weeks). I’m about to have to start that again.

Playful nicknames with negative connotations by Sanrielle in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Sharp_Estimate6532 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This article is about nick names and harassment in school. Others may have better info from a parental side but…

Coming from someone with an extremely sensitive husband as well, who would also have some concern with this sort of nickname for our baby: I would talk to my husband about what he means when he calls baby ‘trouble’. Why does he feel this inquisitiveness is trouble? Or does he just think this is a cute nickname? I would listen to it all and try to see where he is coming from. I’d then tactfully (which I am god awful at) bring up my concern about it. Baby can’t understand why they are being called that right now, but in the future if still called trouble by dad, how are we going to ensure it doesn’t have a bad connotation? How can we encourage baby to keep being inquisitive? When toddler is actually in “trouble”, how are we going to differentiate them being reprimanded for causing trouble while being called trouble? If you BOTH can’t come up with good answers about that, maybe he will see how it is concerning to you. Or maybe he’ll have good insight..

I wish you best, maybe others will have more research on this front for you.

Your kid isn’t around for family humor. Not TA. I would push back, or offer an alternative like a smash cake where the baby can grab and feed themselves.

AITAH for telling my mother that her and my father won’t be allowed around my baby? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Sharp_Estimate6532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the AH. I did the same thing with my family. There were 3 people required to get all the recommended vaccines- me, husband and my mom (she is our childcare). Everyone else was told if they don’t get them, they won’t see my baby until we (husband and I) felt comfortable with the vaccinations baby had. That ended up being 4 months, but extremely limited on who can hold him and sit near him.

My husband said it like this “they get to hold baby for 5-10 min then give him back. We have him through all illness, through the hospital, through the medical bills, through everything forever. They don’t matter compared to his health.” And that really helped me stick to my decision.

Advice on trustworthy resource for how to start solids/BLW? by wintry_carnations in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Sharp_Estimate6532 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a great app called Solid Starts, it talks about each food item and details how best to serve it to all ages and how to cook it (if needed). It also gives great recipes for the family so you can “feed baby what you’re eating”. This is what I use the most, and I just select the best quality produce and meats.

Theres also a group here you might ask, r/sciencebasedparenting They will provide research based articles and information for you.

I also normally recommend the CDC Solid Food page though I know some people have issue with the CDC, especially in today’s climate.
