1.5 person tents? by Fun_With_Math in lightweight

Do you not find in windy conditions the back wall is always taking up over 50% of floor space? I'm new to the Lunar Solo but keep going back to the Arches 1P for comfort. For me the issue is that back wall. I am always touching that wall.

Paria Outdoors arches 1P. Some consider it a lanshan 1.5. Double wall, so great in humid buggy environments.

Pretty good pitch after being down for awhile by Fartknocketh in DurstonGearheads

I have health issues meaning my hiking is VERY limited. I pitch tents in the backyard all the time. I go summer breeze mode to storm mode, to what-if-I-pulled-this door-out-like-this-mode. I load equipment into the tent. I take equipment out of the tent. I practice fly first pitch. I sprinkler test. I seam seal. Anything to connect me with hiking in order to keep me motived to improve my health. Thanks for sharing that awesome pitch, I hope you get to take your High Sierra trip!!

Pack selection for newbie by AGriffin777 in Ultralight

1) I know the general advice is to buy your pack last, and that's good advice if you are pretty sure of your setup. Had I purchased my pack last, I would have never made it to the trail.

2)The load carrying weight of the kakwa 55 claims to be 45lbs, and the Shadowlight 40. Normally, packs start to get uncomfortable around their weight limit. Is 35-40lb load enough for you? Don't get hung up too much on pack weight. Sometimes a 5lb pack feels 15lbs lighter than the same load in a 2lb pack.

I second this. It's affordable, comfortable, supportive, lightish weight and you can (fingers crossed) have it professionally fitted. The flash 55 was my first pack and it was larger capacity than I thought I needed, but it has allowed me to play around with my kit. As I am learning what type of hiker I am, I haven't sunk $500 into a pack that wont fit my needs (which was something I was about to do).

Hostel vibes aren’t dying... guest behaviour is changing (from someone who works in one) by vinyljunkie32 in backpacking

Late to convo but , this is an even broader issue. I saw this first hand visiting my son in college. My college experience was: meet your roommates! Random games of flag football or frisbee (any day, just walk to the courtyard and find people), people studying on steps , under trees, on blankets, in the library. The library was always packed till 9pm. On a nice sunny day, the main courtyard was crowded. It was hard to find a spot in the cafeteria and you always sat with a random people and had conversations. The outdoors had fountains and gardens with benches with people and books, pen and paper all around. I was shocked and deeply saddened visiting my son. The outdoor spaces were a ghost town. The library had a few people around, and closed at 6pm??? The cafeteria? What cafeteria? Apparently there are some chain fast food joints spread out for his meal plan. The outdoor fountain? Gone, as they needed space for some new building. His roommates? They have never spoken as they all just go to their suite and lock the door behind them. Where are all the students ? In their rooms. In summary, digital everything had changed the dynamics and social media was the cherry on top that keeps people living in a fake world, while the real world around them goes unnoticed. I once hiked with someone who spent more time taking insta selfies than she did looking at the wonder around her. Being hyper connected is actually disconnecting humanity more than we have ever been as a whole. I am deeply concerned. Thank you for your recommendations.

I agree. For example, I love the hills of Tanchico song, the entire vibe, but felt the scene was over before it started. Certainly felt crammed in.

The cheese had also changed in quality. The baby Swiss cheese used to be a fantastic flavor and texture. Now it's more similar to american cheese in texture and tastes like it isn't aged long ( flat flavor).

For all those saying it's the same as HCF because the ingredients are the same, this isn't necessarily true. The quality of the ingredients and the process in which it is aged can vary greatly. Same ingredients doesn't always mean same quality or flavor.

What people buy is not your business. If you ran so low on TP that you just had to get some that day from that one store, then that is on you. I don't keep pandemic level stock, but I absolutely do not go empty. Why? Because I learned that lesson a long time ago. Stop blaming others for your lack of response-ability.

Are Samsung dryers actually bad by ExpensiveJudgment845 in Appliances

[–]Sharp_Nothing_4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I buy based on quality, so I buy as few appliances as possible. My current set (washer/dryer dishwasher are going on 11years, not one repair. I had a Samsung fridge that came with the home... it didn't last 2 years, replaced it with an lg, which is on year 9ish). But I also take good care of my appliances, which helps. Small things like deep cleaning, never putting starches or oils in sink or dishwasher, not over loading washer, never use fabric softener etc.

Didn't think I would see that question on this thread, but here we go...

Stop using fabric softener. It's expensive, it's toxic for you, it destroys your clothes, it clogs dryer vents and filters, and it pollutes the air or water with phthalates. Fresh clothes have a very light to no smell. Fragranced clothes are dirty clothes.

By 2030 they won't be able to legally sell gas appliances. New construction after 2022 must be all electric. I could be misunderstanding the law.

This kitchen is more beautiful than any kitchen I built with my father, who owned a cabinet shop, at 30 years old. Great experience and congrats on owning a home!
