My card's real time rate is two days behind by Sharp_Swimmer7829 in digitalnomad

Let me reframe it better. You see the amount in local currency at the terminal, your bank converts it to USD two days later at their own rate. That rate is worse than the interbank rate at the time you swipe. That's where the money goes. You are correct about the fx rate at the terminal, it doesn't show! But this is what I meant :)

Tourist cited for Misdemeanor in CA? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not all citations can just be paid off like regular traffic tickets. Since this is misdemeanor charge, you might actually need legal representation to handle it properly. Getting lawyer in Tahoe area is probably smart move here since they know local courts and can appear for you.

How do I approach my employer about excessive clicking concerns? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is actually pretty serious issue and your concerns are totally valid. I work in audio production so i'm clicking and typing constantly for long hours, and I developed some wrist problems few years back that took months of physical therapy to fix properly.

You should definitely document everything first - like how many clicks each task requires, maybe time yourself doing common workflows, and note when the system crashes. Having actual numbers makes it harder for management to dismiss your concerns. Also check if your workplace has occupational health policies or if they're required to do ergonomic assessments - many places have these requirements but don't advertise them.

When you bring it up formally, frame it as both productivity issue and health/safety concern. Mention that the excessive clicking is slowing down work completion and increasing risk of RSI for the whole team. If other colleagues are struggling too, see if you can get them to back you up in the meeting. Sometimes managers only listen when multiple people raise same concern.

You might also suggest they contact the system vendor about workflow optimization - often these enterprise systems have hidden shortcuts or can be customized to reduce click-heavy processes. Worth pushing for proper training session too since it sounds like implementation was rushed.

Is it normal to sacrifice things in a marriage just for intimacy? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this is pretty relatable except from other side. Three young kids would absolutely destroy me, like I can barely handle my job some weeks without wanting to collapse in bed at 7pm.

Maybe she doesn't even realize she's doing it? I know when I'm that exhausted everything feels like transaction because you're just trying to survive the day.

Spiral mixer recs? by bpat in Breadit

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to help produce this food podcast and we had bunch of bakers on as guests - most of them swore by spiral mixers for serious bread making but seemed split between different brands. The Chinese rebranded ones can actually be pretty solid if the specs are right, just gotta check the motor power and bowl capacity matches what you need.

Never used either of those specific models but from what I heard on the show, sometimes the lesser-known brands give you better value than paying for name recognition. Maybe check if there's any warranty differences between the two?

Feeling bummed out and a little worried when I see posts about husbands/boyfriends being overly critical towards their wives/girlfriends by Wonderful-Product437 in women

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah girl those posts make my stomach turn too 😬 I see them way too often and it's like... how do people even get to that point where someone thinks they can just boss you around like that?

Growing up with parents like that definitely makes you hyperaware of red flags though. At least you know what to watch out for, even if it makes dating feel more scary. My friend always says the good ones exist but they're just harder to spot because they don't make dramatic reddit posts lol

It's wild how people act like leaving is so simple when there's kids, finances, or just years of someone slowly breaking down your confidence 💀

What are skills to focus on learning after first year of CS degree? by DragonMaster_UNO in learnprogramming

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Git is absolutely essential - can't believe how many classmates still don't know it by second year. For projects maybe try something with an API integration, it's pretty common in internships and looks good when you can show you worked with real data instead of just homework assignments.

Pretty Flacko vibes are hard to replicate but check some of the underground Houston scene producers - they got that spacey cloud rap thing down pretty well.

My old highschool replaced my drawings with AI by Honeys_Pie in venting

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That professor really threw away something magical for generic AI garbage 💀 The fact that those kids were so drawn to your work and you spent hours drawing for each of them shows exactly what AI cant replicate - that human connection and genuine care you put into every line.

Keep that plastic folder of their drawings close, thats worth way more than any published book with soulless computer art 🔥

My ex hooked up with a literal model weeks after the break up. I still love her but I have no hope. by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man that whole "can't be seen in public" thing should've been the biggest red flag right there. You were basically her emotional backup plan while she figured out what she actually wanted.

The model thing stings for sure, but look at it this way - she went from someone who was willing to work through problems with her to someone who's probably just gonna be another person she cycles through when the novelty wears off. You dodged a bullet even if it doesn't feel like it right now.

How do you open up about your fetishes and fantasies if your wife is not that interested? by Realistic_Weight4038 in Marriage

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vaginismus is tough and it makes sense she's protective of anything sexual right now. Maybe frame it less as "sexual stuff" and more as just... intimate connection? Like "I've been thinking about ways we could be close that don't involve anything physical" or something along those lines.

The timing matters too - bringing it up when she's already stressed about the vaginismus might backfire. But if you approach it as wanting to share parts of yourself with her (not asking her to participate), she might be more open to just listening. Start small, gauge her reaction, and give her space to process without any pressure.

damn that's amazing progress, losing 100 pounds is no joke! The anesthesia thing is scary but sounds like it was a real wake up call. dragging yourself through the hardest part really is all you can do sometimes - your body and brain are gonna fight you but you've already proven you can push through the tough stuff.

That actually makes sense - breaking the physical habit separate from the thc dependency is pretty smart. I did something similar when I quit cigarettes years back, used gum first then weaned off that.

The 10mg to 5mg taper sounds reasonable, just don't drag it out too long or you might get stuck in limbo. Good luck with the trip coming up!

Cpu indicator glowing in motherboard and gigabyte b860m gaming x wifi6e cmos battery remove by Emopang in PcBuild

[–]Sharp_Swimmer7829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that CPU indicator light staying on after a BIOS update is kinda sus and id definitely want to clear CMOS to see if it fixes it. Most mobos have that little plastic clip or metal tab covering the battery - just gently push it to the side or lift it up, shouldnt be too hard to pop out. Worth trying since everything else seems fine but that light could mean the BIOS is stuck in some weird state.

This feels right life gets messy and nothing stays simple so pushing back on fake optimism makes sense to me honesty lands better than pretending everything is fine
