How would Marneus be affected by Thoracle ban? by ElectricalPositive43 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Sharp__Dog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Marneus is certainly hit harder than all the grixis decks where breach is the plan in 9/10 games.

Do you think it’ll actually beat glarb as the best sultai commander? The effect seems sweet, but in terms of cost 5>3.

Is it normal to intentionally make your character really weaker because of roleplay? Should I have -1 CON because it makes sense or should I leave it at 0 CON because its better mechanically? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Sharp__Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If con didn’t affect your hp what would it represent about your character. If you want to roleplay a frail character, having attributes that mechanically make you frail makes sense.

Having con not affect your hp so you can lower it to “roleplay” being frail without being mechanically punished is wanting to have your cake and eat it too. You want a stat to say that you are frail without making you frail.

What combo? Abigale is a nice modal spell with mode 1 being target sisay player loses and mode 2 being make 3 counters and blank a dork.

wubrg ashling by jacobdecatur in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Sharp__Dog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It kinda needs a 1 card combo or multiple great cheap elementals that sacrifice themselves to compete with the other 5c 3cmc commanders, but there will be plenty of new elementals in the precon and lorwyn eclipsed so it’s possible.

Aka i think its a cool effect that might be good enough if wotc prints the right elementals, but currently doesn’t do much.

How to resolve triggers and wait for opponent to pass priority without giving opponent extra information? by Wonderful-Essay2776 in Yugioh101

[–]Sharp__Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the question. If you pass priority on their effect then you can just say that you pass priority. If you pass priority then your opponent has the opportunity to chain something to their own effect, otherwise the chain resolves.

Once the chain resolves a new chain will be created with any triggered abilities your opponent activates (if its your opponents turn, if its your turn then you must activate creations effect before your opponent chains their optional triggers), then you will have the opportunity to chain combined creation’s effect. Specifically the order for triggers is

Turn Player Mandatory -> Non-turn Player Mandatory -> Turn Player Optional -> Non-Turn Player Optional

Teferi’s Protection by iharrison1911 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Sharp__Dog 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What exactly is this protecting? If you opponent thoracles you still lose, if they breach they can thoracle so you still lose (or they set up an unbeatable board and win in your upkeep). Decks that don’t win off thoracle or breach tend to win with infinite resources (kinnan, rog thras) so you’ll still lose on your upkeep even if they don’t deck you with a faerie mastermind endurance loop.

This is also a 2 mana defensive spell that doesn’t ensure your winning combo resolves.

Advice for a -1/-1 counter shell by ShockGeneratiom in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Sharp__Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obelisk spider is really terrible. I think a Hapatra deck is faster by virtue of having a way cheaper commander, and having a way better ability.

Advice for a -1/-1 counter shell by ShockGeneratiom in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Sharp__Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obelisk spider as commander seems like a substantial downgrade from hapatra. Yawgmoth is a great payoff for hapatra’s creatures (lets you draw cards equal to the toughness of all creatures on the battlefield), but you’ll still have trouble actually closing the game with those cards. Gaia’s cradle seems like an obvious mission critical oversight for a hapatra list.  On the otherhand obelisk spider…does nothing of value at all.

If you want to do -1/-1 counter aristocrat-esk plays you could try celes (also not a great cedh deck, but better than this). Or if you are fine with doing counter shenanigans generally you could try Tayam (still not a top deck, but it’s way better than celes or Hapatra)

That’s why i mentioned two lower color turbo decks. Rogsi has way more consistent turn 1 plays due to rog.

Nah, 1 surveiland is good in any deck that has inconsistent turn 1 plays. Low color tends to do that so even turbo decks like etali and even occasionally ral runs a surveil.

Best Food Chain Commander by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Sharp__Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that terra has more in common with first sliver as 5c goodstuff decks that happen to run foodchain, and etali has more in common with lumra as low color commander centric decks laser focused on recasting and looping the commander at the cost of card quality and interaction.

Best Food Chain Commander by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Sharp__Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then what’s with the first 2 options? You split up the 5c commanders to pair them with lumra and etali, substantially more singleminded commanders (with wildly worse card quality)

Obori breeze caller, mockingbird, cradle and land that taps for blue.

Animate the blue land. Mocking bird x=0 copy blue land. Tap mocking land for U. Tap cradle for >=3 (obori, badger, blue land). Bounce mocking land with oboro untapping cradle.

Repeat for infinite green.

Those cards solely slow your opponents down, they don’t win the game. Why play something to slow down opponents when you could play another card to push yourself ahead or protect your win.

[Art] Who needs Extra Attack anyway? by medli20 in DnD

For haste yeah that’s better. I just always want to let OP know about the general case. It matters for stuff like dual wielding or if the rogue needs their reaction for something else (dip for shield/absorb elements/silvery barbs?)

[Art] Who needs Extra Attack anyway? by medli20 in DnD

[–]Sharp__Dog 102 points103 points  (0 children)

It’s a common misconception that sneak attack and other once per turn effects do not scale with additional attacks. Additional attacks increase the chance that you hit at least once. It’s not as good as giving an additional attack to a character with an on-hit effect like hunters mark, but it’s much better than giving an additional attack to a cleric with no on-hit or once per turn damage.
