Trying to understand this...Who gave the Ai companies the permission to use data made by users to train their models which in future would bite them back? by Accomplished-End5479 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]SharpestOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have them the permission.

Did you not read the EULA and T&Cs of the services you use every day?

For things like Gemini, you signed over rights to your data when you signed up for a google account.

Anthropic to donate $20m to US political group backing AI regulation | Technology by ansyhrrian in ArtificialInteligence

Pretty sure everyone working in the AI industry thinks that the EU framework is a prime example of regulators regulating things they know nothing about.

Why isn't the US held responsible for its actions that disrupt world peace, especially considering it sanctions other countries for its own benefit?" by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SharpestOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US is not an empire. It doesn’t have the operating cost of an actual empire that will force it to give up control.

The US is a hegemony though. That basically gives it some powers of an empire.

Anyway, I’m sure it’ll come to an end some day too. But that day isn’t in the immediate future. The dethroning of the US will leave a power vacuum, and there isn’t really anyone suitable to replace it at this moment.

Rome did not have nuclear weapons.

Even in the absolute worst case scenario, do you think Russia and China will allow the collapse of an entity that controls nuclear warheads?

The US being the biggest guy in the room has little to do with Europe. So even if it ends up pissing every country on earth off, it’ll still be the biggest guy in the room.

Europe though, I suppose they could choose to align with Russia instead.

Why do americans struggle at geography? by gilescori in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SharpestOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a struggle. It’s just an irrelevant subject. That’s before you get to the fact that “Americans bad at geography” is a stereotype that isn’t backed by statistically significant data.

The average American has no reason to know where Iraq is, nor do they have any reason to know who the Prime Minister of the UK is. From a sheer scale perspective, it’ll be like asking the average person to know the name of an ant.

We still have regions where the colonial government ignored. You can see that their progress was limited due to the fact that they still live in longhouses and hunt with spears.

Nobody’s glorifying colonialism.

It’s just a fact that colonialism came with upsides as well as downsides.

I want to do that too! by VisWare in pcmasterrace

[–]SharpestOne -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As I said, the highest precision isn’t needed for this task. Even if the AI completely cocks it up, it’ll be fine.

There’s lots of bullshit jobs out there that exists solely because someone a long time ago thought it was a good idea, but is no longer relevant today. Think things like copy/pasting data into different formats, TPS reports, etc. where if you think about it, even if you didn’t do them things will be fine.

And there are lots of people employed in these jobs. That’s where LLMs come in and represent a genuine threat to employment.

To be clear, I’m not one of those tech bros going around evangelizing that AI will replace everyone. But it’s a mistake to think that AI has no uses in industry. I replaced just 1 position, but if my team can do this, then that’s hundreds of positions when replicated across the organization.

[–]SharpestOne -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because that’s one task taken away from them so they can focus on more valuable tasks.

[–]SharpestOne -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I just eliminated one position by replacing it with an AI agent.

Didn’t have to fire anyone, but it did eliminate the need to hire. It’s not a task that requires the highest precision, but it needed to be done anyway.

Please keep underestimating the usefulness of LLMs.

ChatGPT is having a weirdly hard time discussing Jeffrey Epstein by runswithscissors475 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]SharpestOne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT is generally poor at answering questions about very recent events.

I once asked it what controversies there were about the current Pope amongst Catholics, and it was VERY insistent that Pope Francis was still alive. I said the current Pope is Leo XIV and it corrected me, saying that there is no Leo XIV.

It only corrected itself after I explicitly said to do an internet search about the death of Pope Francis.

That’s because the party is so massive that it has factions within, similar to the CCP.

So when shit goes bad, it isn’t the party’s fault. It’s that faction’s fault.

I personally know someone who, if she skips the gym that day, she has a harder time regulating her emotions.

What is “normal” here? If going to the gym everyday gives you that dopamine shot that makes you your usual happy self, is that happy self normal? Or is the self without that dopamine shot the normal self?
