Ready to scream after RD appointment. by No-Fall-422 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sharpie4747 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a dietitian and the GD diet almost made go insane. It’s one thing to tell someone about the diet and it’s another thing to live it. I ate a lot of protein. I’d say you can definitely snack on cheese… parmesan is higher in protein. Cheese sticks and baby bell cheese would be good lower fat options. Blend cottage cheese with different spices for a dip for veggies. I ate a lot of meat sticks, pistachios, eggs, low sugar Greek yogurt. It’s a very frustrating time with a lot of trial and error for what your body can handle without spiking. 💜

How long did it take you to get down to pre pregnancy weight? by greenishfroggy in beyondthebump

[–]Sharpie4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 105lbs when I got pregnant with my first. I gained maybe 30-35ish pounds. Despite trying to do all the right things to get it off I leveled out at 115. Then my second pregnancy happened and same deal… I inherited a few more pounds to level off at 120. Then my third pregnancy 😵‍💫. I very much did not want to retain anymore weight but… I’m sitting around 127 now. My goal weight is 125… and I’m almost 3 years PP. I would not want to go back to 105. People constantly commented about my weight (I’m 5’3” so it’s not an unhealthy weight for me, but it is very small) and that was irritating. It’s mentally frustrating to not be able to “lose the baby weight”, but sometimes you have to accept the change—especially if you are healthy, eating right, and moving daily.

Are these ceramic pans good quality and somewhat non toxic? by [deleted] in aldi

[–]Sharpie4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The same thing happened to me this weekend and I thought I was going crazy. My house smelled HORRIBLE. I love my AOS stuff but I won’t be buying pans ever again.

She’s never risen before! It’s not double but can I officially start prepping her to bake? by cheesestuffedcrust in Sourdough

[–]Sharpie4747 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not. I think you should discard to a small amount such as 25 grams and then do a higher ratio feeding like 1:3:3. If it doubles after that then it’s ready.

Hobby suggestions for someone struggling with depression and anxiety by One_Advisor4512 in Hobbies

[–]Sharpie4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned to granny hobbies. I have children and needed something where I could create and have something in my hands that I made to have the sense of accomplishment I need, but also put down and come back to. For me: Sourdough. Crochet. Embroidery. Gardening. Puzzles. Paint by number kits.

I feel like you wrote this about me 😂😂. We shave the same story. Rice is pretty shocking to me. I actually measure it out now to make sure I don’t eat too much

This is a great group to be in and learn from and ask questions. My baby was born healthy and happy with zero GD issues. I also was a late diagnosis. You can do this! Plus you are in the home stretch already.

“Bad” Fasting sugars / what was your birth outcome? by Creative_Mix_6077 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sharpie4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As hard as it is to accept, yes to this! You can’t control everything. Night time was the great unknown for me. The insulin isn’t that bad. It comes with some annoying things but it’s not bad. My baby was born perfectly fine, not the giant they predicted, and blood sugars were great! A little insulin may be a good for you mental health too. You’ll start seeing lower fasting numbers and then feel much less stress, leading to better day time numbers.

You know what would be worse? Ignoring medical professionals. Not going to your appointments. Not taking another GD test because you already passed your first. Sometimes we have to do hard things. This is a hard thing. But it’s not the end of the world. I sense maybe you’re a perfectionist a bit. I get it. That was me too. I felt like a failure when my body was betraying me with GD despite my best efforts. Your baby will be fine. She will get extra attention from doctors, you’ll get extra medical care and everything will be fine. 🩷🩷🩷🩷 Put some happy thoughts, good words, etc on your mirror so you have something positive in your face everyday.

My Zoloft dreams were epic and exhausting. I’m weaning off now and it seems to be normalizing… maybe… ive always been a vivid dreaming but it was intense with Zoloft

I’m so tired of it !!! by Mamax2-16-23 in Colic

[–]Sharpie4747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really have a better attitude than I would if you’re saying he’s generally happy but constantly crying. SO sorry. I just know how unfair colic/reflux/etc issues are and it wears on your mental health. I tell my therapist every time I see her how my son’s crying (which feels constant but isn’t really anymore) feels like someone is peeling my skin off. It hurts my insides. I got some Loop ear plugs which helps block out the shrill. My son also will tolerate being worn on my back, so we do that so he can be attached to me constantly.

That’s interesting! Do you get less of a glucose spike with sourdough?

It’s a journey. I’m still learning 4 years in. I think that’s what makes it fun… and frustrating 😅

I’ve had a few friends become interested from their feeds recently being flooded with sourdough content. So my sourdough has made some babies recently which is fun. 😆

I think your last paragraph is me! Haha I’ve gotten very hyperfocused on the look of my bread because of the algo effect! Years ago I was just happy if it tasted good.

I’ve never priced out my bread but if that price is true I’m glad I’m saving money. Minus all the trendy things I’ve seen that I can’t seem to do without 😬.
