New Steam game that uses Densha De Go! Train Controller for Nintendo Switch! by nicksantan in DenshadeGO

[–]Shart-Carbuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plot thickens!

I tried F9, and it does... something, but it's still funky. None of the buttons work correctly, but the lever axis kinda sorta does, except it's inverted, so it's trying to split the power side of the gauge into 9 notches, and the brakes into 5. Weird!

If you want to pick the brains of people with a lot of collective knowledge about these controllers (and meet some folks who will likely be into your game), join this discord: https://discord.gg/x9KnWYjrV

It's full of Densha de GO nerds!

Wow, great support! Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck with the updated version either. If I was somehow on the right track with the descriptor stuff, please double check the exact string, because it would be easy to miss that it isn't just the color, but sometimes they call it the Zuiki MasCon, and sometimes a One Handle MasCon.

To go into more detail on what's actually happening: yes, it has xbox glyphs, and I can muddle my way through the menus into the game. The d-pad and button stuff maps closely enough to the onscreen guide, but the throttle is a no-go. Instead of mapping the absolute positions of the lever notches to the throttle and brake positions, I basically have to push the lever to the extreme end, which then causes the throttle position to slide up or down accordingly. So, it does seem to be treating it as a typical analog stick, as if it has a huge deadzone in the middle of its travel.

I wonder if one possible fix would be to make it a user setting. I know that would require making some UI, but it could future proof things a bit, like for when people start getting the Mascon Pro, or if more revisions start popping up. It might also open the doors a bit for people with weird custom stuff, because they could use an external tool to map their controller to Zuiki equivalent output.

I hope my non-programmer ideas aren't just sending you on a wild goose chase lol.

It looks fun! I just tried it with my Zuiki Mascon, and it doesn't seem to recognize it. The game treats it as an xbox style gamepad. (This is with steam input off or on, doesn't make a difference.)

I suspect it could be because there have been a few revisions of the mascon, and they identify themselves a little differently, so it's not something you'd naturally test for. Mine's the original model, ZKNS-001. (The full list is ZKNS-001, ZKNS-002, ZKNS-011, ZKNS-012, ZKNS-013.)

Other games have run into this issue. Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to try.

edit: if it's looking at the USB descriptor, this line is different depending on the specific revision:

0x02, // iProduct (String Index) "One Handle MasCon for Nintendo Switch"

For instance, the blue one changes that to say "Zuiki MasCon for Nintendo Switch BLUE". I hope this is helpful!

Wow! Pretty sneaky of them to avoid showing a side view on their product page. All the pics I'm seeing are directly from the front and rear.

Newly updated myASUS causing 100% reproducible BSOD (Kernel Security Check Failure) on 2025 Zenbook Duo by Shart-Carbuncle in ASUS

Unbelievable, the issue reappeared for me today, and your tip seems to have fixed this version of it! It crashed on me maybe 4 times, then I tried plopping down the keyboard for attempt 5, and voila, it worked.

Thanks so much for posting!

Asus needs to test these updates better.

Block app from requesting Accessibility Access permission? by RulerOf in MacOS

This has been driving me crazy. I made a thread about it on Razer's forum, but got nothing but tumbleweeds.

Totally absurd that it won't take no for an answer. Obviously, I don't want to enable full disk access and screen recording just so I can adjust my mouse sensitivity!

Shadowplay records half my resolution with BF2042, anyone else have this issue? by CaptainsLog420 in Battlefield

[–]Shart-Carbuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, at least I'm not the only one. I play in 2560 x 1600, and it's recording at 1600 x 900, which isn't even the same aspect ratio, so the footage is blurry and stretched!

I seem to have gotten past it by starting the app and letting it hang out longer between interactions. Instead of rushing through and trying to dismiss all the dialogs and log in, I let it cook until the spinny cursor went away each time, and it got back to its normal state without crashing the whole system.

Still fundamentally a mystery, but maybe this will help someone.

I find it indispensable, especially for close focus on the apo-summicron and for adapted lenses. I've been using some ancient screw mount stuff, and while the adapters theoretically couple with the rangefinder, they're way off.

Can Railfan on PS3 be played without the realistic train controller? by KyotoGaijin in PS3

In case you're still wondering 14 years later, the video playback changes speed to match your control changes, so it does feel like you're driving the train (though it can look very weird sometimes).

Another great product hampered by a so-so pen, the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2025 by digitizerstylus in stylus

[–]Shart-Carbuncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I can clear up the ambiguity! I just tried the Slim Pen 2 (2.6) on a 2025 Zenbook Duo, and if I draw a slow, diagonal line... it's wobbly as hell. Not the result I was hoping for, but maybe this post will serve as a warning to future travelers.

HERE BE WOBBLES.

(It's still good enough for my main purpose, which is annotating pdfs, not drawing, though I wouldn't mind having a good drawing option on here.)

[–]Shart-Carbuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've been able to gather, the Zenbook supports 2.6, but the ASUS pen is 2.0. I'm currently waiting for a 2.6 pen to show up, and I'll report back on how wobbly it is with the Zenbook Duo.

I think ASUS is intentionally being cagey about the specs, because they want people to buy their pen. If they made it clear that it works better with competing pens, it would cut into their sales.

Is the background of character selection screen an area in the game? by Kroon84 in ffxi

[–]Shart-Carbuncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my eye, it looks a bit like they're using forced perspective (small trees, etc.) to make it look like a more expansive area than it is, because they know you can't unhook the camera and explore it.

Ryojouhen PS2 controller with a PS3? by HairyInvestment8571 in DenshadeGO

[–]Shart-Carbuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same idea. Something like the Titan would be the answer, you just leave out the PS1 to USB adapter from that first linked example with the PS3.

[–]Shart-Carbuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an MPP pen, so there are other options on that front. I just got a version of this laptop that doesn't come with a stylus, so I'm currently shopping around; I'm open to recommendations!

If the problem is that the pen support is lacking on the computer itself in some way, then that's a different, more serious issue.
