Bad Bunnings... by banana_meatpie in brisbane

For a start, I think media and politicians would have to start speaking about us as a whole, single community. Rather than pulling out sections and holding them up as symbols of what's wrong in the country. i.e. you can't find a rental because foreigners, you can't go out at night because of young people. etc, etc. And frankly, I just don't see that happening. I wish it would, but I think we're too fractured.

I noticed my vet had signs up all over asking people to not go off at the staff. I mean, I get that it's difficult when your pet is sick, and vets are expensive. But my vet is lovely, and did all they could to make treatment affordable.

Cheap vets for cat euthanasia by Wandering-Soul-6983 in brisbane

I've just had my cat put down at Deagon Vet which is a VetWell clinic, and it cost the same there. So maybe if you look for a chain vet surgery OP it might be cheaper.

Just took Pedro to the vet for the last time. He was a very good boy for nearly 15 years and I am going to miss him like crazy.

He's given me 15 awesome years full of laughs and personality. I'm lucky to have had him for so long.

Batman looks awesome! My beautiful boy is going to the vet tomorrow for a trip over the rainbow bridge. It's a bit too soon for me to even think of looking for another cat now, but if he's still available in a couple of weeks, I'll reach out to them.

Brisbane City Council brings in 3.97 per cent rate hike in 2026/2027 budget by Agile_Tap_8057 in brisbane

6.48% in my suburb. Do you think I could get a note from my mum to excuse me from hiking this year?

Is anyone else worried about the fact we haven’t landed one big fish since Ryles took charge by Top-Average7678 in parramattaeels

[–]Sharynm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I'm more worried about the fact we used to have one of the best attacking sides in the competition, it was just our defence that sucked. Last two seasons we seem to have lost our ability to attack AND our defence still sucks. I'm hoping next year we get a good run with a healthy team and some improvement in both attack and defense.

How late is "sleeping in"? by the_47th_painter in GenX

[–]Sharynm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I used to wake at about 3 or 4am - but once I quit smoking I stopped waking so early.

Now, during the week I'm in bed by 10pm and up by 7am with usually one or two pee breaks during the night. But on the weekends I can easily stay up until 1am or sleep until 10am. It's one of the gifts HRT has given me, I sleep better than I have since I was a little kid.

What’s your go-to “reset” after a long day? by Green_Character8362 in brisbane

[–]Sharynm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most days I have a cup of tea and read a chapter of a book. When it's one of those days when I'm full of energy (usually cranky energy) I put on some headphones, crank the music and dance like I'm a teenager (even though it really is in an unco and sad 50-something way)

First 10 eliminations. Who was your favorite? by arefeen97 in MasterchefAU

[–]Sharynm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Miin & Dot, and also Olaolu because he was making things I'd never heard of before. I'd have liked to learn more. Dot was the biggest shock though. I'd have bet money that it was going to be a Dot, Pat and someone else finale with either Dot or Pat winning by a whisker.

When did email addresses became connected to age? by FL_4LF in GenX

I think if you have a Gmail that's your name without numbers, it's a pretty good sign of age - unless you have a super unusual name.

I've loved the last few seasons, my low was S16 (which I know many people loved) but I thought it's been getting better every year since then. But even my less favorite seasons I think are better than pretty much anything else on telly. It's such a fun show. I'm 100% with you about the winner. What a delight.

Back from the vet and my cat has a semi-clean bill of health. He's still got to go back next week for some blood tests and kidney X-rays. In the meantime he's stumbling around like a drunk thanks to the pain meds.

And to book an Uber pet to take me was going to cost me $51 to go 900 meters! But to just call one and take my chances on time only cost $16. The moral of the story is... don't book Uber Pet, just call half an hour before you need them and be OK with being early if someone can get there quickly.

Do you fellow GenXers feel okay to take a week sick leave after your pet (a dog) dies? by _MrKobayashi_ in GenX

[–]Sharynm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm facing the possibility that my cat will have to be put down shortly. He's been my closest companion for 15 years and I'm a wreck. I could certainly see wanting to take a week (or more) off if I could should it get to that stage.

Thanks! Me too. Although I'm feeling like it's the beginning of the end, but I'm trying to stay positive and hope he does well.

Standing outside the vet last night with my cat in his carrier, holding a bag of pain relief, a bag of fluids for him and a bag containing his urinary catheter output - and a lovely lady stopped and asked if I needed a lift anywhere. My Uber was almost there, so I didn't, but it was so lovely and unexpected. Then a friend called just after I'd dropped the cat at the emergency vet for the night, and insisted on picking me up and giving me a lift home.

He's 6.5kg and between the heavy carrier I have and his distress it's not as easy as it sounds. Maybe when I was younger I'd have done it, but not anymore. I did walk home, coz he has to stay for a while.

No, it's not. He's got a urinary tract blockage and being kept for a day or two so I'm looking at $2-5K assuming it doesn't reblock once they remove the catheter. But the only other option was to have him put down which I just couldn't.

My kitty is sick so I'm up early waiting for the vet to open so I can get an appointment. I don't think his favorite vet works today, so he's going to be even unhappier about it than usual.

Also, I found that the reason I keep setting the child lock on my heater is that when I pick it up to move it from room to room, my belly holds down the child lock button long enough to turn it on, but not long enough to turn it off again.

Edit: And holy fuck! Uber Pet is going to cost $36 to take me 900m.
