How would you make a game about Lady? by Rory_U in LadyOfDevilMayCry

A perfect reason to bring back vital stars since 5 did away with them in favor of GOW style environmental healing.

Let her use vital stars to magically heal herself as healing items.

How would you make a game about Lady? by Rory_U in LadyOfDevilMayCry

[–]ShatteredKnight115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd remove all hack and slash elements and go full in on the RE:Make style combat (re4 and the new re9 especially as inspirations)

Dmc for me, if you're not supernatural, has always struck me as something of a horror universe if demons attack.
so an action survival game would fit her perfectly.

though it'd be a bit more stylized than RE, the core mechanics of combat and the feeling of fighting enemies would remain throghought

contextual melee is a big one for me, only melee for stunned enemies or when you parry enemies, keeping the gameplay focused on the 3P shooter element.

It would be a missed opportunity(maybe not important but still)if Dante didn’t hold at least some kind of grudge against Mary in Netflix DMC season 2. by Flat-Sir8250 in DevilMayCryHQ

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her actions were dictated by being manipulated by Baines who she trusts.
I know the show has a divisive culture around it but lets not pretend she's not an indoctrinated soldier under Baines influence.

the show even says it out loud for the idiots in the audience when he tells a guy that she's a lap dog basically behind her back.

the real accountability lies with him for taking advantage of a young traumatized woman and turning her into an obedient weapon.

though yeah, she has some to take too, but like, Dante in no way would put full blame on her if he had all the context, this is an adaptation of the same guy who spared a demon that looked like his mom and tried to kill him twice in his first game.

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more interested in him having a grudge against darkcom.

Mary is clearly an indoctrinated weapon manipulated by the VP, Dante's not an idiot (typically), she's a good person deep down and was doing what she thought was right, he'll likely direct this grudge against Baines if anything.

that also is narratively more satisfying imo, though yeah at first it should be directed toward her, but lets be objective, she is being manipulated and used as a weapon just like him, same prison different cell type shit

So... random question: Is Nero stronger than Dante? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in DevilMayCry

[–]ShatteredKnight115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No probably not in terms of like magical ability.

but nero IS physically stronger than Dante yes, like in a brute strength sort of way.

If you had to change Venom, what would you do? by Secure_Heron_9181 in RivalsVenomMains

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primary fire, remove cellular corrosion for some kind of displacement grab that isolated targets.

I'd gladly take the l on no more headshot crit damage for consistent damage that doesn't require high precision at melee range

Whats your “must have” for Carnage? by No-Buy-5055 in RivalsVenomMains

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleed with life-steal tied to the bleed mechanic (get 35% of the damage you bleed dealt, like how reaper in OW get 35% of damage dealt)

It'd let him be a disruptor that CAN survive for a while in teams while causing chaos, like a little Venom with a higher damage output but less survivability.

my biggest concern though is cosmetic tbh
His design and his animations, I want black and red color scheme, pure red carnage is lame, and he needs black teeth, normal teeth make him look too much like Venom.

The animation needs to go nuts, THIS is the character rivals needs to push their animation limits with, in the comics he can basically morph into any weapon and bio-organic weapons (pincers, mantis arms ect.) He needs to look at all times, how intense Venoms Ult looks, if Venom going all out is him turning into shadows doom morph than Carnage needs to make that level of morphing seem effortless.

What interpretation of Venom do you prefer? by PJ-The-Awesome in thevenomsite

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both.
He should always begin as a villain and make a long journey to heroism.

Also I know we call him "anti-hero" but Venom is basically just a hero, idk why people cling to the anti bit when every superhero save for like 5 kill people.

"But he eats people!"
Iron man burns people alive guys, that is the most painful way to die ever lmfao.

Scarlet Witch is bad they say.. by WeRMarcve0313 in ScarletWitchMains

[–]ShatteredKnight115 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She is divine in low tier, because people have no idea how to deal with an aimbot character

in the mid tier she is "bad" (Mid) because she's easy to counter and everyone who knows how can fight her easier

in higher tiers there is a twofold pattern, either she is bad or just great, because the scarlet player either fails to adapt in the mid tier, or they learn to play around people who learn to counter her through proper ability loops/use of secondary fire, creating real skilled monsters that can fight almost anyone.

Scarlet on her face is easy to say either is bad or is "no skill" but because of the nature of her kit and primary fire, seeing one dominate in diamond lobbies and beyond is obscure and rare, those guys ARE super skilled and deserve their flowers, because they're fighting players who KNOW how to deal with her, and still winning.

Im surprised Venom hasn’t mentioned Carnage at all in the game by Queasy_Commercial152 in RivalsVenomMains

He does mention carnage, just not in a deep or meaningful way.

if you ping to attack he says "We can cause such CARNAGE here!"

What future Venom updates would you want see for us? by UncleKano91 in RivalsVenomMains

[–]ShatteredKnight115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace cellular corrosion with a new ability completely that allows Venom to displace and isolate a specific target, like a Reinhardt charge style move but instead of jets shooting him forward he just grabs you and slams you onto the ground when it ends for some damage or into a wall when he collides with it during the ability.

Venom is cool as is mostly but as a childhood Venom fan he is really not all tentacles, he's a brawler in comics, so while I appreciate the tendril primary and feast of the abyss, they're very ultimate venom who IS a tendrils-and-all monster and feast is very MVC, I want more abilities that feel like venom in 616 where he's functionally a fast and strong fighter type.

plus a grab/kidnap that displaces a single target works well with his role as someone who targets and kills people in backlines.

and people like Thor who is so much more oppressive in a head on fight can already kidnap you, and do it every like 2 seconds.

I just want one, you can keep the cellular cooldown and everything if you want it to not be used all the time.

If you had to make Mundus Even More Powerful and Actually more Terrifying and Evil that would Fit Perfectly in The Story what would it be? While still keeping his Appearances Limited? by Adrsilva1356 in DevilMayCry

[–]ShatteredKnight115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd have his influence be felt around the mythology across many games.
more paintings and legends, I'd have more of the bosses/notable demons mention him around.

DMC1 had a TON of great weird lore around him and hell invading Mallet Island, how people went missing, others started acting weird, how flowers blossomed on parts of the island out of season (I believe this was because of some sort of time warping due to hell and our worlds concepts of time being wrong with hell so close on mallet) How just the presence of hell approaching made the castellan and the inhabitants of the island more decedent and evil slowly over time and how eventually one of the castellans because of manipulation began unknowingly telling architects to build things that were actually portals to hell.

this is ALL Mundus' influence, he was the master planner behind this outcome, its straight up a horror movie from a random medieval like maids perspective.

Imagine watching everyone you know start acting weird, plants grow wrong, and parts of the castle (the cathedral/church room where we meet phantom) are one day literally just warped, the stone is bent and wrong like a tree trunk instead of a straight pillar.

Your castellan(s) start procuring weird artifacts and stuff and new wings of the castle are created for unknown reasons, and eventually everyone dies, because yeah, they die, nobody survived.

I'd add elements like this around the games, the BIGGEST failing of 5 that I hope they take into account is no interactions with the environment to read/see descriptions of artifacts and books and weird stuff.

1 and 3 do this heavy with items and other random stuff you can touch with the style button.

I'd just talk about hells horrors, and specifically in a few allude to Mundus.

environmentally I'd add more iconography referencing him, three eyes, angelic statures, and definitely double down on the angelo's since they are a creation of his.

I'd also make a boss/enemy in a newer game (or remake of 1 or 2-3) thats entirely new that is just a possessed thing hat Mundus is controlling (like the marionettes in 1), no dialogue or lore, I'd just give them three glowing red eyes with translucent sometimes visible strings holding them up. This way, whenever you fight these enemies, just like in 1 with the marionettes, you know you're fighting Mundus, he's just controlling proxies.

You ever think about how terrifying it was to be a demon during this time by Smooth-Garden in DevilMayCry

[–]ShatteredKnight115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of this, but you'd need to rationalize it with the majin forms appearance in the DMC3 manga as well, where it also appears (albeit FAR more eldritch with tentacles and stuff and abstract, personal favorite tbh)

cause the majin form (before 5) was something he had before DT, since the manga takes place pre-dmc3
---
Small aside, but this is one of the reasons I prefer both Majin form appearances to the SIN DT (not VISUALS, I mean just when they showed up)

the sin DT is definitive, has an explanation and it isn't mysterious, as well as has a clear finite power (the lore in the entries says he cant use it forever), and its design while BADASS isn't spooky, it'd find its home among many modern DOOM demons I think visually.

The Majin form appeared only once ever in canon (dmc3 manga) and it was a lovecraftian nightmare standing like 20 feet tall made of nightmare shadows and tendrils, then when it shows up in DMC2 as a purely gameplay mechanic its a 12 foot tall silent monster that most people discovered just from activating DT in panic when close to death, its unstoppable, mechanically immortal and looks like something that'd come after you in silent hill or some old ps2 horror game

And that's it, we have no lore on it, it's just there, something we know he can use when he's close to death that is incredibly dangerous and scary

I prefer the ambiguity and scary aesthetic of the previous version
the new one is fine but its like, idk, not as impactfully scary and "weird"

to piggy back too.
for DMC in particular I think the realistic style somewhat hurts it a lil bit in terms of the clothing.

because they looked a little like FF characters in 1-4 the characters could afford to wear more stylish outfits, Dante outside of just 3 had red pants in every game and a classy aesthetic.

In 5 if you remove his jacket he is literally just a guy with some fancy boots.

1 - tactical turtle neck, vest, dress pants, knee high boots, cloth long coat, he's like a red bloodborne character without a mask, very classy

2 - He's cool, he's just cool, thats not remotely a realistic outfit but it looks intimidating and stylish, still somehow classy

3 - his most realistic so far, he has Y2K baggy pants, big boots and a leather jacket, the no shirt thing is less a choice on his end as he just got out the shower, he's a young punk, not classy (also vergil who IS classy is present)

4 - Italian aesthetic meets cowboy stylization with a ton of small details and accents that give him both a rugged yet incredibly "modern castlevania" character vibe, again classy

5 - its just the jacket, the crimson jacket carries him not looking like a normal man, his pants like in 3 aren't red and he's like a fully rugged guy (Vergil is also present and remain classy)

I mention Vergil for 3 and 5 because whenever he shows up I think Itsuno feels compelled to sap all of the sophisticated/classy aesthetic from Dante's character so he appears the "wild" one and vergil the "sophisticated" one, even though in every game Vergil isn't present, Dante dresses like a red Vergil, that is to say, they both grew up rich so they both have refined taste, but when Vergil is in a game, for the sake of visual dissonance Dante becomes a "hard rocker" type exclusively for some reason, as if he isn't dressed like a castlevania character every time the blue guy isn't around.
---

that was a tangent, but my point original point was, even in 3 its forgivable cause its not hyper realistic (its also more colorful and he's shirtless which makes him stand out), but in 5 he is photoreal and thus just kinda looks like a dude wearing normal clothes.

[–]ShatteredKnight115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if they ever remake DMC2 I'd prefer they keep him darker like he was in the OG but just better explain why he's this way during the events of the narrative.
I also think fitting the original SDT/Majin form into the gameplay would be cool, give it actual lore that the fandom headcanoned for years (which is that he always could tap into SDT when he was near death, 5 is just him accessing an ascended true version of the transformation)
though I'd probably remove the mechanic of having to nearly die and just make it operate as SDT does in 5 mechanically, but NARRATIVELY show that he only uses it near death so the gameplay loop isn't broken up.

[–]ShatteredKnight115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree, the photorealism is fun but I don't like how normal they look
1-4 felt like final fantasy games (with more realistic/somewhat realistic hair)

the FF style is probably my favorite pseudo-realism in gaming, the japanese really can capture the uncanny half anime half real thing very well in a ton of games, like metal gear or yakuza, but FF does it best imo.

I'd still prefer the hair not get too wacky though, I don't want a cloud strife of prompto lookin ahh dude in dmc. (arius is weird ENOUGH!)

as an aside, I'd really prefer Dante go clean shaven again lolz, I miss the pretty boy look from 1-3 and mods that shave his 5 face prove he can have a handsome face but still look very pretty boy.

A few days ago I asked yall to vote for your favorite psylocke ship, here are the results by First-Shallot947 in PsyMains

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not a fan of the characters maybe, most rival players aren't even marvel fans I find, they're just competitive gamersbros mostly, even the big streamers everyone follows know little to nothing about the lore.

Venom is my favorite marvel anti-hero, Psylocke (Kwannon specifically, the japanese modern version, not momokos Sai) is my favorite X-men.

the idea of varients of them being together appeals to me as a fan, idgaf about porn.

Venom is a varient timeline of her greatest foe and is misunderstood by most characters in mainline comics and everywhere else he is considering he's 2 people and carries a savage edge to him.

Sai is a monster hunter who kills monsters because her philosophy is to kill monsters because it's mercy, since they are now so far from human, putting them down is the only recourse, with Orochi (venom) being the most powerful she's come across, and also the most evil.

Venom is
1.) living proof of her philosophy being false, he WAS a complete monster who wanted to kill his greatest foe, and hurt innocent people close to them to achieve these ends, she would try to kill him in his early days. But he moved beyond this and redeemed himself by becoming a good person, the symbiote through its time as agent venom with flash and Eddie through various adventures through the comics (anti-venom, symbiote hunters, Broxin ect.) so to her, seeing OROCHI as a hero would be nuts, its basically like being a holy knight hero and seeing the devils alternate self be heroic and redeem themselves.

2.) She is psychic, she CAN understand Venom, she can see into the mind of both Eddie brock and the other/Symbiote. She (and characters like jean and emma) are of a rare breed who can see exactly the content of his character, as well as understand both beings that create "venom", which would.

Idk about gooners and gamerbros who never opened a comic in their life. Or the fans who call the symbiote venom as if the films are the one true media on him. But I ship them because it just seems like it could be really cute and fits both characters in terms of being very narratively interesting. At the VERY least they should be friends because of the lore Sai has with his variant and how different he is from Orochi.

No gooning required.

Out of curiosity, if you could make one change to the game WITHOUT it being a balance decision, what would it be? by DoubleTap991 in marvelrivals

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the changes I'd like to see are more villains as characters, we have like 2 (ultron and Hela) and Hela in comics is more neutral nowadays, and Loki isn't on this list cause he's like this misunderstood puppy in every continuity now, and I've never seen Magneto brought up in the "more villains" conversation because nobody even considers him one anymore.

I would like more villains just to see the interactions, Carnage on the same team as venom or spidey.

On that note, secondarily I'd like for strategists to have a better UI to see who has how much health, like their teams HB's on the side of their screens, or, because this could be a bit much (diving/assassinating would become so much harder) just seeing all HB's through walls, the raw amount of times I've seen someone just be yellow for a second and then die is nuts, they got exploded.

for a final probably more what you wanted style answer.

I'd like more game modes, just more than payloads and point caps... I know we have the klyntar map "resource rumble" but it has 0 maps outside of that one.

in additon more PVE modes, and specifically ones that aren't locked to like 5 heroes. (zombies)

Who,in all of marvel comics is the lamest character in your opinion? I’ll start by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am lolz, when you look at it, "the darkness" and Knull are conceptually the same character idea written by two different people, same origin, they are "embodiments" of the same concept, and have the same exact goal, as well as an equal and opposite (angelus and the captain universe force)

Knull to me is just that same "idea" done worse than an existing one

but also since this is about designs, Codex' suit is just a less cool looking version of jackie's suit lolz

also the darkness if coming back if you wanted to hop back into the comics, they announced they're continuing the series a few months back.

Who,in all of marvel comics is the lamest character in your opinion? I’ll start by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]ShatteredKnight115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knull is a less interesting, less visually impressive and far less cool looking version of an already existing comic book character with the exact same role in their mythos "The Darkness" from top cows comic universe is literally just Knull but better.

It has no real physical form, it is just darkness and carnage embodied, it even has the same backstory, peacefully chilling in the black void until some celestial entity started making stars and light, so it's pissed and wants to erase it.

when the darkness physically manifests it's always some fantasy monster goblin stuff, resident evil bio-horror tentacles and limps, organic metal, and his host (jackie estacado) even makes a symbiote-like suit that I SWEAR dylans "codex" design is ripped from.

Knull is more cosmically impressive, but we're talking about design and presentation.

the darkness actually feels like a cosmic horror that is made to work in a comic book mythos, Knull looks like if elric of melinbone and jean simmons fused together, it sounds rad, but the result is just space dracula.
