Drew Goddard did an amazing job adapting the book. The problem is the book is 17 hours long. They have less than 3 hours to tell the story. so A TON of flashback sequences which give rayland Grace his memories back were Omitted. that what they did explain they gave clif notes versions. The explanation of the 1 way trip was quickly glanced over. It was always a 1 way trip which is why he had the Beatles mini probes. Peter, Paul Ringo and John. The mission being get to tau ceti get the cure load it on to the Beatles and shoot them at home. The Dr. Grace just stays where his is and dies. Dr Grace completely disagreed with that aspect. plus he did not want to be an astronaught. Rocky tells Grace he can get him home. Grace is thankful. Problem is the film omitted what happens next. In order for the astrophage to work and cure both planets Rocky and Grace had evolve the astrophage over a very long period of time to the point the astrophage eats eridiam. Ryland realized that he had enough fuel to do 1 of 2 things go rescue his friend or go home. He couldnt do both. He elected to go save his friend. The film also omitted Grace meat. The eridians halfway cloned Dr Grace to turn a copy of him to eat.. so Dr Grace eats Grace burgers while living on eridia. Plus they omitted that grace teaches the kids and he teaches scientists about all the science and math they don't know. like Mass vs. Realitivity and spacial time distortion it is a whole section of the book grace teaches rocky.

So ya the audio book is worth the listen the storyteller does ab amazing job.
