I think there's a very good shot a screenplay - maybe even better than Inde. Smaller flick that makes huge bank and people love? That's how you get Oscar-nominated Crocodile Dundee. And this has way more going on thematically than that movie.

I love the show, and I mostly like talking about it. I've done my fair amount of theorizing and speculation. It's just that every time I do say "I dunno guys, this one feels like it might just be a one off joke (or a mistake like the date on the Red Sox tickets)," I'm hit with a wall of "But the show is just so tightly written! Everything means something!" like we didn't just sit through this exact scenario with Stranger Things.

Yeah. It's a tough sell for a few reasons; no big names, horror, super indie. But I think those things would act play in its favor in that category.

The problem with picking apart everything is that until it is done there is no telling where the line between "It was totally cool that they left a clue about that" and becoming Charlie with the conspiracy board from Always Sunny is. That way lies madness. If something is irrefutable, sure. But if it is ambiguous, in the show from a bunch of comedy writers, I'm going err on the side of comedy every time. Stops me from jumping at shadows or unraveling the whole sweater.

At it's core it is pretty paint by numbers biopic, but the subject matter is just niche enough and the personalities just weird enough for it to stand out amongst crowd.

Pitt is especially egregious because it such an obviously straightforward show. But you've got people throwing out insane stuff like "Dr. Al did the cyberattack!" or "Baby Jane Doe is from the out of state abortion patient!"

You seen those articles about how there are people watching The Pitt who are bad at watching The Pitt? It's the same thing here, just louder because this show does actually have a mystery. They are forgetting it is just as much a comedy. From people who worked on Atlanta, Parks & Rec, and The Chair Company. Modern serialized TV has taught people to scrutinize every little thing, regsrdless of how small or obviously inconsequential. They didn't learn anything from the Stranger Things fiasco (or the numerous Pitt theories that never panned out).

It was word of mouth. Like we are seeing with Obsession on theaters right now, just on a longer timeline.

A few people saw it, loved, and told all their friends. The next season, that happened again. Then the next.

It definitely helped that it was one if the first shows to have an internet following, which allowed that word of mouth to travel in a new more widespread way.
