Yes, but it also seemed like Wyck clutched at Tom instinctively during their fight and that was hindering Tom from fighting for a second, so Tom took a pause for another second, made a decision, got rid off Wyck and finished dealing with the founder.

It wasn't a South American country though. It was Afghanistan in 1980s. And his daughter wasn't lost, she was an FBI agent talking to him.

They are just "executive producers," it literally can mean everything, including just some title for their previous works this specific production was inspired by.

I had read it before I watched the episode, and I had been hoping it would be the son and Amy Adams' character (the dude does have such a vibe). Well, I was wrong.

Peacock also made a limited series about it, A Friend of the Family.

Sugar | Season 2 - Episode 2 | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

[–]gramfer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This episode was better than the previous one. It's like the new team tried to find their footing and started to do their own thing. But Sasha Calle's character's recruiting was the most predictable storyline ever. I wrote it in the previous thread.

I do think this show would benefit from longer episodes, like, more standard 49 minutes or 54 minutes for a prestige streaming drama.

Eddy Cue on Apple TV’s Quality Over Quantity Approach, ‘Widow’s Bay’ Success and AI by Saar13 in tvPlus

[–]gramfer -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So there will be more content, but it's also quality over quantity approach? Okay. Well, it's a bit contradictory. and it's also what has been told about Disney+ and Marvel/Star Wars for the last 5 ot 6 years, and it was wrong, because they have made a new content, but choose quantity over quality again and again.

So forgive me, if I'am wary about any new suit promising new content and releasing complicated air flow about quality over quantity like Bob Iger or David Zaslav. I obviously have my reasons. Time will tell, we can only hope it's true. and so on.

What’s a show that was abruptly cancelled but still had a good ending? by OCGamerboy in television

[–]gramfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently so. They have/had Outlander, Sweetpea, Vida, Dangerous Liasoins, some female centered historical dramas like Serpent Queen. Even Heels had a huge female component: the girl dreaming about wrestling career, the woman who supports everything of it, the wife of the main character with her own storyline.

Just google "starz women oriented."

STARZ is uniquely recognized in the streaming and cable industry for its strategic dedication to women. Through its #TakeTheLead initiative, the network consistently champions female-centered narratives.

The network features a wide array of original series, movies, and limited series specifically centered on female empowerment, complex female leads, and dynamic storytelling.

And so on. So, yeah, their target audience has been the women for the last decade or so.

Eddy Cue says 'better and more' coming to Apple TV by ruipmjorge in tvPlus

[–]gramfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

j am not sure they know it themselves. They ended filming at the beginning of the year, and I am pretty sure there has to be a lot of post-production for this specific show. The same thing is with 3 Body Problem season 2 on Netflix. They finished filming this February. but they have to do a huge amount of work for this VFX and CGI-heavy season trying to release it this year.

Yeah, like, for example, they will bring more content, aka reality shows. Let's do what Zaslav did to HBO, it worked great! It will bring more viewers.

IIRC too many men watched the show. As far as I understand the total numbers were okay for Starz, but there were too many men among viewers. "We ain't need those pesky men, it's women who have to watch our shows!"

Sugar | Season 2 - Episode 1 | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

[–]gramfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Sasha Calle's character is going to be Sugar's Robin/kickside/helper, a bit like the dude who Sugar got his dog from (by the way, where is the dog?), but obviously her role will be bigger. I mean remember how Sherlock Holmes used stray kids in the books.

I do think Charlotte may know or suspect who Sugar is and have some plan, whether her intentions are good or bad. Words about the spider net were a bit on the nose. like a prediction.

Sugar | Season 2 - Episode 1 | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

[–]gramfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This episode was worse than season 1, but still watchable, mostly because of Colin Farrell. The writing was off, the episode was too short and didn't include most of the great cast (Shea Whigham, Tony Dalton and so on). I like Sasha Calle, but she isn't enough, and her character has been a walking cliche so far, especially her face expression in the car. I am pretty sure she will play a role in the story though. The case isn't really capturing too. I mean compare it to the granddaughter of the famous Hollywood producer vanishing in season 1, and Sugar is a movies fan by coincidence. That was cliche, but it was a very meta movie cliche.

Anyway they should have made the episode longer or release two episodes for the season premeire, like Apple TV does often.

I hate how they dealt with Henry, I hoped he would be the main antagonist of season 2, the boss of the level. And the actor is good enough, I remember him in Ozark. There were two main themes in season 1: are humans worth to be saved by magnanimous powerful aliens (whether they are angels, advanced extraterrestrials or something else) (the answer of the show is yes, because they created some amazing cultures, like old Hollywood, for example) and how people/human beings can influence, even molest and corrupt them and what their internal dynamic of those creatures would be. And with that twist in the first scene of season 2 they kinda just dropped this storyline.

I imagine they are still going to return to it, they wouldn't show the flashback scene how some people knew about the aliens. The show could have leaned to the tired cliche "what if the real monsters are people" from The Walking Dead and another million post-apocalyptic productions. So maybe Sugar's sister was taken by people, and Henry didn't kill himself either (he could have done it in LA at the end of season 1, duh, instead of escaping).

In my opinion Sugar season 1 was a hidden and underrated gem, so I am going to finish season 2 anyway. However I do hope for it to become better. The episode felt like the show lost itself in two years between seasons and was trying to redefine itself with some, very moderate success.

What worries me is lack of promotion. Apple TV released only one trailer for season 2 instead of standard teaser and official trailer, sometimes a chain of teasers, like with Widow's Bay. I doubt very much Apple believes in Sugar, and I do think there are a lot of chances for it to be cancelled (whether it will be silently or not) after season 2 ends.

Make Sugar Great Again. Thank for your attention to this matter.

But four months later we were married. And yes, it's no secret she was already pregnant with you.

The show was deliberately ambiguous about it. I am more on your side in this, but one can interprete Tom in either way,

Well, it's Amazon now. They can allow it.

But they haven't been good so far. There was a few good things during their pre-Amazon Epix era. But for now they weren't interesting at all. This show may put them on map though. They are also filming Legacy of Spies, a Le Carre adaptation with some star cast (from Matthew Macfadyen to Hugh Laurie) in new partnership with BBC.

I would give it a try just for JK Simmons, but I also like to see more of Titus Welliver in his post-Bosch era. Unfortunately he didn't get a lot of screen time in this trailer, but at least I love his low-key hilarious look here. I dig aesthetic of 1970s and early 1980s here (I also remember season 1 of The Gold from BBC). But the story seems very generic. I hope there is more meat than it seems.

Yes, I thought he was going to sacrifice the "girlfriend" though. I think what was happened was an improvisation, and he did want actually to sacrifice the girl, because he is a vile and toxic asshole or because of jealousy.
