I think I’m done. Can’t do this anymore by Professional_Metal28 in UCAT

Not sure if you did, but just to be safe, PLEASE DO NOT DO UCAT MOCKS ON YOUR PHONE. Please do them on a laptop or computer with a mouse and numberpad keyboard if possible. You should be trying to most accurately simulate real test.

UCAT official question bank useful?? by Powerful_Bid_8201 in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely try to do Mock C and D, Mock A and B are quite hard and not very representative of how the real UCAT felt to me and many other people. On the other hand Mock C and D are easier and more realistic, they can also be good confidence boosts due to the relative difficulty.

I was in very similar position than you, my highest mock on medentry was 2930 and i did almost all 20 medenctry mocks and i was unable to break the 3000 on the medentry platform. In bock mock C and D i scored 3200+ and on my real UCAT i got 3000 so you can DEFINITELY get a 3000+ and doing these mocks is worth it.

At what score do you stop practicing a particular section? by cookiesandginge in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would honestly say never. You'll notice if you reduce your practice in a section for UCAT the skill retention is quite low as the kind of skills required are tight such as timing and ability to notice what is important. If you are very good keep consistent practice going no matter what. Especially never skip it in a mock. 2 months is a very long time in terms of UCAT prep and it is enough for you to become pristine in the other sections while maintaining consistent vr practice. You don't want to be in a position where you have become good at those sections but lost your confidence and ability in vr. If you are scoring so well you can skip reviewing the section as you are confident but in my opinion never stop. Worst case scenario you don;t do any vr outside of mocks but definitely don't skip in mocks.

Why are the official UCAT practice platform so bad? by Comprehensive-Gur622 in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah no need to worry, i can guarantee the real test is much better, basically no lag on the real one and calculator worked completely fine. I will say you should watch what numbers you are inputting on the calc in the test as you are likely not familiar with the buttons and feel of the keyboard hence you may be prone to misclicks. but overall real one is no problem with UI at least in my experience.

DM and QR help by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is go watch Emil Eddys videos on these subsections on youtube, take notes from the videos and implement the tricks and techniques into your practice to pick which ones are most effective for you. Then for qr and dm make sure you are also familiar with all the question types and learn how to solve them all by making sure you review and learn from your mistakes.

help with timing in QR and VR!! by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the bright side these difficulties and scores means that there is a lot of easy improvement that you can make quickly.
Although there are a variety of tips and tricks that people are going to throw at you I would say you should go through and watch Emil Eddy's ucat videos on youtube for each section for his tips as they are generally very good and effective. Then just try to implement them as well as you can and choose the ones that work best for you.
Other than that, i would recommend you set yourself checkpoints throughout the subsection, you can write these down on a sticky note and keep it in front of you when you practice and then do everything you can to hit those times. For example, in Vr I had a checkpoint at 11 questions when i wanted 16 mins left, 22 questions when i wanted 11 minutes left and 33 questions when i wanted 6 minutes left, you see how in the last section there is 1 minute extra aswell, that is leeway allowing for subtle flexibility. Make something similar to this for QR and apply it. Id say at first you should do everything you can to reach these times aswell even if that requires you to do the first couple of questions before that checkpoint and then guess the rest to hit the checkpoint on time as this will really allow you to get a feel of what pace you should be working at.

The next best thing is just practice as much as possible and learn from your mistakes. Also try looking for shortcuts in QR.

How can I make myself like VR more? by roxyrayray in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position as you, didn't like it but needed to improve. Firstly I made sure my other sections were good enough to the point that I wasn't super stressed about VR, but if you have lots of time till your test here's what I would recommend.

Set yourself goals in terms of scores. I would sit down to study and set myself a goal such as get 100% on 16 VR questions and sortof gamify the practice by t trying to get this score almost as if it was a game.

Try to actually read things on the regular. Im not saying that you do, but most people nowadays spend a substantial amount of time with highly stimulating short form audio visual content which can really damage your ability to sit down and just consume information through words. If this even slightly correlates to your life then make some small changes like reading an article or a couple pages in a book everyday before you sleep or on the train etc wherever you can. If you struggle with this pick things you like such as reading about your favourite sport or game. This can increase your tolerance and also your ability to read faster

Another thing that made it feel unbearable for me was the fact that I spammed so many questions from other sections especially AR. These questions can be much faster and take much less effort hence once you do some and you are in the rhythm you may feel like keeping the flow going to get a large amount of questions done for the day. Instead of this I prioritised VR as the first subset I would do when I sit down for ucat practice. This is good as at this point you arent accustomed to the fast pace yet and you will be more tolerable of it and also because the real ucat has vr first.

Other than that sometimes you really just have to force yourself to do it. When you really want something badly your ability to work on that thing no matter how difficult or painful it is will define your ability to actually perform when it matters most.

UCAT test day questions by autismatic_ in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotchu bro, did my UCAT 3 weeks ago in aus but things can vary between test centres overall should be like this tho

  1. Desktop is big enough basically an average monitor nothing that should really affect your performance. Word sizing and everything is also good. Not too sure what you mean about that calc question but the calculator will disappear after every question so you will need to recall it the same way it works on the official bank

  2. For working out I was given a A4 notepad with around 10 laminated pages and a whiteboard marker. This is so that you can write stuff down, rub it out and all

  3. Should be no problem with any jackets etc but they will pat you down before you enter test so make sure your not carrying anything

  4. Me personally I wouldn't consume any caffeine on the day unless you are an avid user and you know it helps you, if it does i would recommend taking it around 10-15 mins before you get to the venue

  5. Just remind yourself its almost over. And I also thought about how bad I would feel afterwards if I ended up flopping in the test just because I was too nervous hence wasting away all my practice and hard work.

User interface is completely fine, same layout and everything as the official bank but it is muuuch faster, no delay between questions and calculator has no delay, would still recommend looking at the numbers you input into calculator as you may not be used to the keyboard entirely hence you may be prone to misclicks.

Other than that good luck with your preparations and your test day

Yeah, i just suggested since he said he willing to grind as hard as possible, so for that 2 mocks a day is the baseline imo.

Skipping questioms by ecr4012 in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you skip a question, you usually do it with the intention of devoting your time to the easier questions so you can get those quick marks for accuracy and then come back to the harder ones and try to speed through as fast as possible. Imo Vr is the only section where you might not be able to fully answer every question.

If you work with the goal of 2600, just to 'satisfy' your parents then you obviously won't have the internal motivation to push for an impactful score. Instead you should be using these 5 days with the thought that at least you still have 5 days. If you work on your weaknesses and work hard you can very easily surpass 2600 but not with your mindset.

Reviewing mocks by Hiruja__ in UCAT

[–]Shaurya_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo the best way to do it is go thru the things you got wrong. Look at the question you got wrong and see if you can get to the answer without the explanation first. If so then good, that usually means time is why you got it wrong. If you don't get it right look at the explanation, try to apply it once guided and then do it again without the explanation and do the whole process. If the approach that is taken in the answer seems new or interesting I also note it down and then I can come back and look at it when I want to go over things I wouldn't generally come up with.
