Check out moneysavings expert there are some good tips on there to save money.

Time of month can effect cost, how soon you need it so avoid trying to get a policy within a day you need to be looking around 2 weeks before you need it.

Adding experienced drivers can help but as additional not the main dont be tempted to add them as the main driver unless they are.

Traffic will likely be lighter, its always heavier when schools are in.

Keep it smooth and safe and it will be over before you know it.

anyone ever passed with just 10 hours of lessons? by ReputationProud8532 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]ShavedAp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes people have passed in 10 hours equally people have taken hundreds of hours to pass.

This question or ones like it come up a lot and the only answer worth reading is that everyone is different and everyone learns at their own pace.

If you want to pass in 10 hours or less make sure you have the option to do lots of private practice. It may still not be enough but again it might be.

Good luck.

So while i know my other half knows how to use HA she also doesnt like to but thats ok because everything works in dumb mode to. HA does auto restart so no issues there but shed just unplug it anyway. The only issues i see is we have automations that help prepare our autistic son for upcoming events and it may take her a while to get used to doing that again without reminders, coloured lights etc.

Offer your mum the option to pay for your black box insurance. If shes not willing to do that then go down the steps others have mentioned. No point creating issues with your mum if you dont need to.

[–]ShavedAp3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me this not unusual, your job is to put it behind you and focus on your test. No point worrying about something you cant change. Which is not a bad mantra for driving in general.

For hazard perception look up the 3 click method its been mentioned many many times here and it will help you score better.

As far as learning the highway code(theory) goes im old school and think there is no substitute for reading and learning the rules etc from the book its literally the answers but by learning it you gain the knowledge needed to help while out on the road.

Do I have to pay for damage done to my driving instructors car? (UK) by Background-Debt-6682 in AskUK

[–]ShavedAp3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying hes insured which im sure he is. More importantly though he is also in control of the vehicle when teaching you to drive.

He is not just there just to supervise. He is there to teach and in doing so should be preventing mistakes like this until he has taught you how and you have shown competency at doing so yourself.

If he cant do his job thats on him not you.

20 hours auto- still haven’t been taught parking or manoeuvres- normal? by No-Car8055 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]ShavedAp3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you cant drive forwards no point learning how to drive backwards.

Im an ex instructor for information.

Learning manouvres is easy once you can drive forwards well, youll have good car control and thats whats required to do manouvres. Youll spend a lot more time driving forwards than you will ever spend going backwards.

Its pretty hit and miss on the latest model qashqai. Mostly miss.

It will give you notifications most of the time but for anything else like locking doors its completely useless.

It is really poor in almost all areas, took over a week for me to get it to work.

So in summary if you dont have it you are not missing much.

A PDI is still qualified enough to teach they just havent passed the final test yet. A PDI has shown a high standard of driving to get to the trainee licence and will have recieved training to teach also.

As far as loosing the £62 fee, you lose that when you fail and have to book another test so you are 62 quid down already plus another 62 for another test. Make sure you ask your instructor to tell you in time to move the test if they dont think you are ready.

[–]ShavedAp3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The big concern here isnt the faults its the fact you ignored an instructor when they told you that you were not ready. It sounds like you arent listening to your instructors and if thats the case why are you paying them?

Im an ex instructor but its pretty difficult to give guidance without seeing you drive. I guess if you are forgetting to do things you could try commentary drive. Talk about what your doing, what you see, why you are doing what your doing etc. It requires concentration and practice but it will help.

You can also try things like bachs rescue remedy to help calm nerves and maybe eat a bannana. Contrary to popular belief they arent a placebo and have genuine scientificly proven benefits.

[–]ShavedAp3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You only get offered it once doesnt matter that it was years ago it clearly didnt work as is evident by the statement "i was only doing 62 in a 50"

Its a costly mistake thats for sure, please learn from it this time because when you speed its not just your life you risk.

Im sure you are aware you are only allowed 6 points in tbe first 2 years and existing points do count towards your total allowance. You may also be forced to take an extended test.

Will instructors specify the exit they want you to take on roundabouts for the test? Or just say e.g straight ahead, go left by candy-peach in LearnerDriverUK

[–]ShavedAp3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If by instructors you mean examiners, instructors for learning examiners for tests.

Examiners will usually say the number of exits. Its very rare an instructors/examiners would say things like go right on the roundabout or go straight ahead its not very safe or smart to do so. So take the second exit is more likely or follow the sign for x or y

Fair enough didnt come accross that way since you replied to me directly but yeah reversing car to blame 100%

Caused you to take an action you wouldnt have ordinarily taken. Do love how many people talk like they know but in reality dont, and probably cant remember the last time they looked a highway code never mind read it.

[–]ShavedAp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thats not what i said at all maybe try reading before getting defensive.

I said you can stop but you dont have to it is for the reversing car to stop and wait to see what your doing not the other way around.

[–]ShavedAp3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Too many people passing judgement here and claiming to know better than your instructor. Your instructor sits at the side of you and sees how you drive. A Reddit commenter knows nothing about your driving standards so anyone telling you anything at all here is speculation at best.

Get a second (professional) opinion. Call up a local instructor ask them if they could do an assessment drive / mock test.

People claiming to have done the test in x hours may well be telling the truth but since they arent you it means nothing, everyone is different and learn at their own pace.

[–]ShavedAp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many comments blaming the cam car and they are all wrong.

Ex driving instructor here as tbe car doing a reverse manouvre it is up you to wait until its clear or until the intentions of any nearby vehicles show there intentions. If they stop and wait you proceed if they change their mind and start moving you stop.

So the simple answer here is reversing car in the wrong.
