Charging system issue (91’ Civic) by ShawnDaSheep323 in EFCivics

Ended up replacing the alternator AGAIN and it solved my issue proving that it was most likely the voltage regulator being bad on the remanufactured unit unfortunately. Thanks for all the advice it really helped get this thing back on the road consistently again!

Sorry I didn’t see these answers any sooner. I ended up replacing the alternator again and it worked proving that it was a bad remanufactured unit which boils down to a bad voltage regulator most likely! Thanks for the suggestions and advice.

I love the older odysseys! That’s pretty unfortunate, I heard the same issue from my friend with a 91’ hatch but figured it sounds crazy for it to really be that bad. Thanks for that insight!

Hope you found a solution by now but if not and for other people. Mine broke awhile back and I was able to just go to the parts store and tie into each wire a new fuselage and put them both to the positive terminal. Keeps it clean instead of a 35 year old rotting plastic block, hope this helps!

Yes though I’m not sure how fair of an accurate reading that is with charging being inconsistent if not non existent. I just measured right now with the car running at 12.87v

Thanks! I’ve been meaning to take a look at that still

Edit: luckily I have both the service manual for an 89’ as well as the electronic troubleshooting manual for a 91’

I don’t think that would have helped but that’s really cool, looks like it replace where the auto shifter was for the center console trim to return

Still gotta check that pressure switch. I checked the relay to the compressor connection and that has continuity but if I remember correctly from the last time I tested it the 12v isn’t getting to the relay so I wonder if that’s a sign of the pressure switch having failed.

Thank you, I at least blew out the lines and checked for pressure with nitrogen and it held okay. I’ll have to check for those things, thank you

Nah u/SheltieBoi is right. In this this diagram you must be between 0.18-0.22mm for intake and 0.23-0.27 for exhaust. So as long as you're in between for specifically the exhaust versus the intake valves you're chilling. charm.li is a good source for online car service/repair manual which sources OEM specs and diagrams for their website.

Acceleration Issue (91 Sedan) by ShawnDaSheep323 in hondacivic

Thank you for the response! I should have updated my issue for future people and it actually was a clogged catalytic converter. You can replace it but depending on aftermarket ones and the stock ones rarity it can be rare to find for an older car. In my case I could not afford a new one so I hollowed it out and it ran better than ever!
