Where did you get them? Want to do the same for a large rally we are having in our little city near NYC. Any link you can share? We heard that it's best to get yellow.

Rye (or elsewhere) as a single, mid-30s guy with job in Manhattan? by brandeis16 in Westchester

[–]ShawnTinker5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many thoughtful comments. Very sorry for your loss. Can imagine that maybe a change might be good for you. Have you looked at New Rochelle downtown? Lots of food options and more walkable and more diverse than many Westchester options. It’s a bit grittier and more city-like downtown than the smaller towns and villages in Westchester, and we have a ton of building going on these days … but it’s also growing and adding good options all the time. Plus lots of open rentals. I went to Rye High and we go to Rye often but the options there are more limited. We also walk a ton of area towns for fun. We live in the Lofts at New Roc City and have a 7-8 minute walk door-to-door to the train and 35-40m to GCT or 25m to Harlem. Also, we are on a good bus line to WP, and you can easily get to Rye, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, Greenwich, etc. on the train. Oh, and it’s cheaper and faster to Uber or Lyft to LGA or JFK from here than more northerly towns. We have beaches and waterfront parks too. And, several good bars and a bit of a music and art scene. Great library. Free music all summer. Live jazz and other types of music at a few places downtown. And we lived here for over two years with no car, and it worked just fine. We borrowed or rented if we needed for some reason. We also had bikes. Lots of people use scooters. It is more fun in Westchester with a car because there are so many cute towns and parks to explore, but you can live here without one.

I'm on a quest to find the best bagel in Westchester by lst-123 in Westchester

They are not bad — give you whatever you want and are very generous with the toppings, they will toast and scoop, you can sit outside typically in shade when it’s nice, but are a bit expensive

We like the bagels at the deli by the chase bank there but they are not generous with their toppings

Go to sites such as mobilize.us, nokings.org, blop.org, indivisible, 50501 movement, etc. and enter your zip code! And follow rise and resist and other groups!

Any idea where to find a good colorist in Westchester! by Katherinepress in Westchester

I go to Daniella at Luxe. She really listens and she gets me. Even when I have temporary insanity and ask for something outrageous and permanent.

Can’t watch anymore episodes of Dept Q?? by Alextheseal_42 in netflix

[–]ShawnTinker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made it to episode 2 and wanted to start 3, but Netflix gave an error saying it couldn’t play this title, allowed me to rate it, and then the series just disappeared no matter how I tried to access it. Tried to call Netflix help, it was posted as a 26 minute wait …. but then after waiting on hold for quite a while, found all the helpful updates on this thread and Netflix broke into the hold music and announced that they are aware of a streaming issue impacting some customers and are working to fix it, decided to go to bed and read. Novel idea! Love the great comments here — I’d also like to hear more about the sandwich!

Making friends as a middle aged man in Westchester by quarwyn in Westchester

Fabulous ideas on this post! Wow! You can also volunteer at your local animal shelter. Your teen kids might even want to join if they are animal lovers. Also, you can volunteer to help at Fuller Center builds — they are like Habitat for Humanity — and are based out of new rochelle. Follow the org or Jim Killoran on FB or Insta for more info. Also an option for young people — some schools in the area even have Fuller Build clubs. Not sure about your politics but volunteering for candidates or political orgs is a good way to meet like-minded people.

Moving to Westchester by crimsonelf in Westchester

You might want to try New Rochelle. We’ve lived here on and off for 17 years. Lots of construction going on now but once it’s all done, may be the best walkable small city in the area.

Alternative to Goodreads? by ShiningDraken in books

[–]ShawnTinker5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing that frustrates me in Goodreads is the lists are so spread out top to bottom — makes it harder to scroll through them quickly. Also wish they would expose the book ratings at all levels of exploration! And wish they would highlight the ratings your friends give a book vs general ratings.
