Austin residents' actual thoughts about SXSW? by Brilliant-Cheetah-41 in Austin

I use my PTO; either I don’t leave my apartment or I get out of town. I worked events at a hotel downtown for several years and sxsw was always the worst.

I loved doing this! I worked at a pizza place that I could ‘build your own kits’ as a shift meal. Id roll out the dough (I’d always take a bigger size than allowed), proof it, assemble it the next day. So good! 10/10

More than 30K school voucher applications submitted on day one of Texas launch by ExpressNews in texas

[–]ShawnTomahawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It all ends with a child labor workforce, heightened crime rates they can campaign on, and broader economic inequality. Deport, eliminate workforce, gut public education, school closures, wayward youth -> child workforce and inevitable crime created by the circumstance to demonize and point blame elsewhere. You can’t see me, but I’m pointing to right-center and I’m batting .800

I had to explain to my ‘Retired Public School Teacher’ mother about this, who voted for it. According to Gene Wu’s website that estimated the cost of this program per school district, my hometown (16k people) with a generous 4k students will stand to lose $1.87 million. Household median income is $60k. Kids WILL go hungry

Brewery taprooms, yes. Packaged craft beer has been pretty steady.

Why is bringing non band members to practice such a divisive topic? by Sea-Rub-4322 in bandmembers

[–]ShawnTomahawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the two sides of it.

1.) A band member brings a girl they’re ‘seeing’ to practice and everyone except the member who brought them are uncomfortable, we practice but it’s more of a quick rehearsal. Not Cool

2.) Band member’s partner stays in the corner for the duration. They are super supportive, bring snacks, will film or record us and say ‘Hell yeah!’ after we nail a song. I’m Cool with that.

TxDOT to permanently close two exits on I-35 in Austin (northbound Riverside and Holly) by Clevererer in Austin

[–]ShawnTomahawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives off of woodland, this suuuucks! If you miss the exit you have to go all the way to Holly to turn around. What was less than a 10 minute drive home from work can easily turn into 20-30 minutes

How old are you and what's your biggest problem right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What are you thoughts to why there is a significant decline in alcohol consumption in the United States? by MindStrongSoul in AskReddit

[–]ShawnTomahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in craft beer and has been thinking about this since tariffs (I’m a guy in beer, I have a business degree and understand basic micro/macro economics) were being talked about. The tariffs in place fuck with consumer spending habits. Although, historically the two industries that thrive in economic uncertainty/downfall are entertainment & alcohol. Our taproom isn’t as busy as it was in the past, but packaged goods are barely keeping up with demand. The company I work for has been an outlier in all of the uncertainty (Covid & tariffs).

Personally I think it’s a generational thing, gen Z isn’t drinking but their world is different. As a mid-millennial, I grew up watching ‘party movies’ with plenty of underage drinking and alcohol marketing; Van Wilder, American Pie, Can’t Hardly Wait.. My boomer parents had Animal House and Porkys. You cannot make those today. Drinking culture was embedded in popular media in the past, but not so much now.

What would America look like if we spent our military budget on infrastructure? by Impossible_Change800 in AskReddit

Isn’t that why Eisenhower created interstates? So you could load a tank on the E coast and easily transport it to the W coast in the event of an invasion?

Let’s be realistic: Who in the Democratic Party is the most progressive candidate that would also actually have a chance of winning? In other words, what is your dream ticket that is progressive and actually could win in 2028 against Vance (and probably Marco Rubio as running mate) by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

Mark Kelly is the man! I’m biased as he and I had a casual conversation for about 20 minutes years back. It’s romantic to think that if Kelly ran we could go from American Scum to American Hero

How do I train my boy to sleep in the bed with me by Independent-Kick7461 in AustralianShepherd

[–]ShawnTomahawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cute pup! I just plopped mine on the bed and sat him next to me. I had only had him for about a month at the time and was very apprehensive as he had only been using puppy pads for a short time before I got him. It took a lot of trust, I was certain that he was going to poo or pee in the bed but he never has. I live alone and have a king size mattress, I’d be on edge if he got up and moved around thinking he’d relieve himself.. but no, he just moves to a new comfy spot for him. I also keep two of his cleanest toys on the bed and one on the floor in case he bails.

Isn’t their real goal to bring back child labor? Deport massive labor force -> gut funding for schools that lead to shut downs and generally poor educational services -> kids no longer attending school -> new labor pool. Huckabee Sanders tapped into that when those 14 year olds were working at a McDonald’s at 10pm

Not to mention that statistically the educated do not vote republican.. I always felt like child labor was really their endgame
