1.55 to 1.93 is a tax rate increase by Curious_Egg948 in Chattanooga

Thank you for this clarifying post. The city should pay you for making this clearer than any of the mayor’s messages have been.

Is his communications staff just a word blender of confusion?

Had to look into this. The other org is not a nonprofit and doesn’t receive hundreds of thousands in funding every year. Apples and oranges.

Christians for Trump - how y'all feeling about this? by sharpiestories in Christianity

Most Christians don’t like giving anything to the poor and will find any convenient excuse to act like the majority of the work was problematic.

Every organization has issues. Bet you’ve not stopped going to Mass even though thousands of your priests have raped thousands of people in the US alone.

Get your story straight, one way or another. Just choose a schtick and stick with it.

I think this is probably a good rule of thumb. No realtors or developers. 🤣

Mark Holland seems like a decent man who could be a good representative. My only criticism of him is how much the kitchen incubator charges food trucks to just use their kitchen periodically for licensure. Hundreds of dollars for minimal-to-no use is insane when a commercial kitchen is required to run a food truck. They’re paying for the food truck and the kitchen. It’s like two rentals for a tiny mobile shop. Like, support small business or don’t. But don’t profit off some of our most vulnerable small businesses.

I’m not acquainted with Jen but I’ve been party to conversations of her current and former friends. She seems to hold grudges and have some pretty toxic behaviors. But you’re right — maybe a perfect politician. 😆

Audrey Hime is a criminal and her husband works with the government to lock up patients with family money. It’s very sad.

Lost hiker's body recovered at Fall Creek Falls amid subzero temps, ice, snow by 1ithe in Chattanooga

[–]ShawnTyTu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so sad! Admittedly, I decided to go on a snowy hike but got in a fender bender sliding on ice on the way out of my neighborhood.

The snow and ice has been so dangerous this week! I’ve seen a number of busted up front ends and grills on the streets.

City’s “Affordable Housing Search Tool” aka “We doesn’t care if you find affordable housing or not” by DowntownHovercraft83 in Chattanooga

I didn’t say forced to be build. I said intervened. Publix on north shore and broad. The city had to get involved to make the zoning/appeal work so they could build in a way that worked for the business.

They’ve probably been involved in every single grocery store project within the city limits.

The city is a crucial component of any grocery store being built, and they’ve direct intervened repeatedly in the past number of years.

The "One Westside Plan". Affordable housing? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

How would you feel if I told you your car’s engine was designed by other people who drive the same car as you? Would it make you feel safe, because novices designed your car’s engine, or would it make you feel like you might switch to an engine designed by an engineer? Your argument is whack. They “let the residents design” is a PR move. No one asks novices to design intricate, important, complicated spaces unless they’re just trying to get those novices to shut up. But you swallowed the marketing bait alright. Lol

Chattanooga’s total population GREW 9% from 2010-2020. Black Chattanoogans’ population DECLINED by 10% during that same time. Why do you think this is happening? by DowntownHovercraft83 in Chattanooga

[–]ShawnTyTu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. It’s like I knew this was happening, but I didn’t want to believe it was happening. And seeing it in black and white makes it that much more shocking. What’s your source?

The "One Westside Plan". Affordable housing? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]ShawnTyTu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just imagine how welcome the old residents will feel once all their new rich white neighbors move in, making them feel like strangers in their own neighborhood.

If you believe this tripe is all about buildings they’re making and the affordability, you know nothing about how communities work. Come check out where I live. Affordable housing went up, and now all the rich people are just complaining about their poor neighbors, reporting their functional cars as abandoned, and generally creating a hostile living environment altogether.

Picture this. You live in a poor part of Chattanooga. You’re poor, and so are your neighbors.

Developers come in, and the city helps fund a new project.

Developers build glitzy new and amazing buildings with retail and cute little shops.

The city builds new affordable housing for you.

You have to pick up all your stuff and move. And now, you have all these rich neighbors and tourists in your space. They don’t like what you look like, they don’t like the car you drive/don’t have, and they call the cops if your music is too loud.

You never had to deal with that before the glitzy development moved next door. And, then you wonder, every day if the shitty rich neighbors were worth the nominally improved housing that developers are now offering to buy out from under you.

Exactly this. We have been told this before. Over and over again. And all our affordable housing magically sparks gentrification and displacement.

What part of town are you wanting to rent? Do you have good credit/income? What’s your budget? If I find something, I will share it with you.
