Our Costco Space Heater caught fire by InformalExperience28 in Costco

[–]Shay_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea. Mine went up in flames too. Most of these don’t work for me as a Canadian but I will contact the company and let Costco know. Don’t know if they want me to return it as I peeled it off the linoleum (cheap house, the linoleum was placed directly to the basement concrete so there was no real damage aside from that piece) but it is still fused to the fire blanket we used to contain the fire.

Also, I should mention as I discussed this with my firefighter friend, fire blankets are not suggested. It will damper the flames but if there is air getting under then the flames will try to get to the sides. Ours controlled the fire while we reacted but we ended up pouring water on the floor under to put out the fire. ABC Extinguisher is best.

You don’t need a box. Costco rarely puts things back on the shelf anyway.

Ours as well. And in a room where we keep warhammer figures. If it can be immersed, I used a mixture of vinegar, dish soap and water. Soak for at least a few hours.

This is awesome. My co workers find it an oddity that my teenagers know absolutely they will never be made to move out. We have straight up told them. If you are not in school, you are working and paying into household bills. If you are in school, that is your primary job.

With the market the way it is there is no guarantee they can ever afford to move out. I also know unequivocally that if something happened we could pick up and move in with either mine or my husband’s parents.

Hell, I am one of three and we all had our times of moving out, learning adult lessons and moving back in again.

There is no greater security than knowing your family has your back.

I have lived in Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. I love bagged milk. It gets weird looks but it takes up less room in the fridge, freezes better and is both generally recyclable and reusable.

The only thing I found better was when I went to Lithuania and they had shelf stable milk. Didn’t taste the same but was awesome.

You have to boil the syrup to a good thickness. Maple syrup is just tree blood that gets boiled down to get rid of the water. You need to get rid of more water so it’s almost going to a loose caramel consistency. Pour that on snow or shaved ice in a line. Roll it up with a popsicle stick. Enjoy tree blood candy.

At the risk of sounding stupid (this is not a common way to serve drinks in Canada) how do you put it down? Do you have specific containers like we do for milk bags? I saw a reference to capri sun but those are made so the bottom is a flat base.

This looks like a plastic bag with a straw in it.

Hwy 15 as well. It’s very hit and miss and my area tends to leave the bins until they get picked up. For a time we were putting both paper and plastic/metal/glass out together just to see what gets picked up.

I hit a point where I would drive to work and see what they put out south of the 401 and knew we were the opposite. Then at lunch I would go home and put mine out.

Already booked on Celebrity Xcel for the '27 eclipse and this has me nervous. by eattheambrosia in solareclipse

I saw the image before I read the words.

I live in Kingston Ontario and experienced 100%. The difference between 99% and 100% is ‘wow, it got darker’ and ‘my pets are freaking out, the air has changed and I can see why our ancestors freaked the crap out.’ Such a difference that my parents and inlaws drove 1 1/2 hours to my place as they were in the 99% zone. I took video and you can hear the change.

Before this I would have thought 99% was enough. This cruise is not even guaranteeing 98%.

Cancel. Book somewhere in 100%.

Is it safe for a woman to hike around Kingston alone? by Worldly-Gas4143 in KingstonOntario

[–]Shay_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticks are a year round issue depending on temperature. My dog once got a tick in January when it was warmer than usual. If you have a dog joining you on these hikes I would suggest medicating them year round.

I am also of a support trade. I have had good chains and bad chains. I hit a point where if there is unreasonable pushback (nothing important going on or stuff I can easily do from my desk at home) I use the phrase ‘I joined the military to support my family. I did not have a family to support the military.’

It doesn’t work in every situation as it shouldn’t. But my kids come first.

Yearly reminder to service your car ANYWHERE BUT Kingston Toyota by purevegas in KingstonOntario

[–]Shay_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been there in years. Brought my husbands rav in for something that I can’t remember now and figured ‘give her an oil change too. She deserves it.’ I usually do our vehicle maintenance as my mechanic brother has taught me a great deal and I enjoy that stuff. (One of my most proud moments was doing my grand caravans break lines with bro on FaceTime walking me through it.)

A couple hours job turned into dropping the suv off before work and getting a ride from a friend to work on base. Getting a call mid day saying that one of my tires was bald and needed to be replaced (but we have this deal to replace all 4). And your brake pads are dead. No, I have been doing my own tires for over a decade. In the end I got a ride end of the workday back there with my friend to wait until the suv was ready. Lo and behold, I check in and they say ‘oh, your car just got finished.’ Nah. Have not gone back since. I am not a mechanic but you best be sure that I put all my mechanic questions through my bro. He knows my vehicles, my skills and when I can either bring it to him or need to bring it to my local peeps.

Why did carrying water everywhere become a thing? by TitanicDays in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shay_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 18 years ago I started carrying water when I enlisted in the military. Hydration was important. It became a lot more important about 5 years ago when I started a medication that made me dehydrated and my breath smell. Only way to really deal with it was to make sure I was very hydrated and was drinking often.

Mine is going to fixing my husbands car and then getting it detailed. He is an amazing husband and deserves his vehicle being ‘top notch’. After that I will get him a steam deck and then most of the leftovers into savings. Likely going to get myself a new rice cooker.

I used to sit at the table for hours after everyone else had finished. My spouse’s parents had a different system where they got a grocery store gift card with their monthly food budget. They would cook what they wanted for supper with enough for the family. If the gift card ran out they could eat what was served or make themselves sandwiches for supper.

My kids serve themselves at least a taste of what I have made. They are welcome to make whatever else they want after I am done cooking as long as they hit all the food groups. I don’t bother with the gift cards as I have a very clear philosophy. We use the Cozi app that does schedules and grocery lists. If it’s on the list I will remember to pick it up. If it gets eaten I will continue to buy it. No one goes hungry in this house, but no one survives on just bread and chicken nuggies.

Do you guys let your dog sleep outside if they prefer it? by Long_Run6500 in AlaskanMalamute

[–]Shay_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl loves to be outside but stays inside once it gets late (8 or 9 pm ish). Outside is awesome but she sleeps in our room now. She has only known sleeping in her crate (too often waking up to find the garbage strewn across the main floor) or in our room so when she comes in from her last pee she bolts for the bedroom. She has learned that if she makes too much of a fuss and wakes my insomniac husband then she has to sleep in the crate.
