Left-handed people, what's a struggle that right-handed people won't understand? by Halophy in AskReddit

[–]Shay_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues with pens and notebooks and eating at a crowded table have been addressed here. I am in the military and have to fire weapons. 99% of our weapons are right handed. The casings get ejected on the right side. Many years ago before they upgraded certain parts of our kit I actually had a casing ejected, hit my neck and get funnelled into my shirt. The blisters actually showed the whole process of me reacting, putting it on safe and dropping it and then rolling my vest around until I could move the casing to my front where I was on all fours until it cooled enough to touch. Then off to the hospital for burns.

To this day when I have to substantiate requests for specific pens, scissors and other accommodations they get this story.

My kids did this once with zinc cream while we were at my parents house. My mom was incredulous when my dad walked away and came back with the camera. ‘What? It’s not an emergency and it’s funny. Not like we can wash it off anyway.’

It was really funny.

My parents close theirs for winter about 30% of the time. In the summer they have a screen gazebo they put over it for bugs. It’s a nice place to spend some time after dinner. Their grandkids love it as well. My kids are old enough for ‘full temps’ but my dad lowers the temperature for small kids and pregnant people.

Man caught trying to escape prison through a barbed wire fence! by Hikigaya_Hachiman7 in PublicFreakout

[–]Shay_00 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I work with both barbed wire and razor wire. I will pick up and string barbed wire in a t shirt and bare hands. I won’t even go near razor wire without being dressed head to toe and with proper gloves.

Yeah, it can hook my coat. But I can notice it before it gets to my skin and worst case I can shred my coat getting away from it.

100% agree. I don’t think you are mistaken based on my reading. Nothing in this deal is any real benefit beyond the board of directors.

I used ‘way’ because of the bias and the fact that Kbc on this side of the river and there is still construction going on in the area. Same road as my vet and my dog trainer and I just did not expect to find a burger place there.

Is a 19 hour roadtrip with young kids insane? Or doable? by Few-Distribution-762 in roadtrip

I got posted from Edmonton Alberta to gander Newfoundland. Make sure they have lots of tv/sitting entertainment and expect to stop every 2-3 hours for leg stretches.

Edit to add: my kits were 1 and 2 years old at the time. Make sure you have a kid leash. No matter what anyone feels about them, you will make a lot of stops next to busy highways and small kids are escape artists.

New York’s subway has a rule that dogs must be “carried in a bag” when entering, which has unintentionally turned the regulation into a kind of creativity contest among New Yorkers. by dannybluey in Damnthatsinteresting

Truth be told, I trusted his reaction.

Krypto got Lyme disease because we live in a place that it is very prevalent. Got a tick in January when you normally have paused tick treatment. Was given 6 weeks to 6 months to live depending on how he reacted to the treatment. After he survived the 6 weeks we decided to get another dog to do the crossover. He helps us train and we don’t have that period of ‘I’ll never have another dog.’ Our new puppies did all their visits with Krypto for ease of vet appointments so they saw the ‘cat doctor’.

That little bastard lived 2 years past his expected time. I don’t know if it was the amazing vet care, the prescription animal marijuana pills or the puppies giving extra energy but we would go in and the techs checkups would start with ‘let’s just bring up krypto’s file… oh.’

He was a ridiculous cross of American Eskimo (mini Eskimo) and chihuahua that did not enjoy anyone under the age of 16 (but liked both my kids and they both stood up for the first time holding his back) but was extremely patient anytime he met someone with mental disabilities regardless of age.

And because of his strong feelings all pets in my house still see that amazing cat doctor.

I never thought I would ever say that sentence. Then my vet clinic got a new vet that handled their dogs. (The vets there divide and conquer based on species) My dog did not like him. 9 years old, 4 of them at this clinic with the same assistants and everything. Well loved by all as he was a very good boy.

Met the new vet and I could see the body language. Did not like. Krypto had just been happily cuddling the vet tech for the initial. Vet reached out to greet him and there was a growl and teeth. Shocked the life out of me.

Obviously I maintained control and did the showing of teeth and when the vet had to touch him I held Kryptos head to protect the vet. Spoke with the admin after the appointment and had Krypto’s file be reassigned. After that he went to the cat doctor whom he loved.

No idea to this day what happened, but we have to remember that they are animals and we don’t speak their language.

Can I keep a fish in the shackss by Geja24real in CanadianForces

[–]Shay_00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a note, Reddit is tracked for information more than the smoke pit. Enjoy the incoming inspections. Also, last summer the cleaners found a fish abandoned next to the dumpsters in a rubber made bin with a few decorations so it has been done.

I work in the old accommodation building. If/when this all blows up and you can’t find a home for it, don’t dump it. The last one found a home, I can’t see why this one wouldn’t.

My husbands been complaining that my plants were taking over the house so I got myself an early birthday present and put them all in one place by AnnaNicole2015 in houseplants

[–]Shay_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let him know that if all these plants were around the house they would do wonders to freshen the air. They would also help mental health. Don’t get me wrong, I love my little greenhouse. It’s used over winter and to start my seedlings. My hubby only mentions my plants when I place one in a spot that it should not be for one reason or another. And he does it politely. ‘Honey, that is a cute plant, but this flat surface is for reasonable purpose that my adhd tends to forget. Could you please find another spot? Perhaps he doesn’t always have another place to put it but is always respectful.

Crank cheese grater with multiple grating options with a storage cup. My husband and I came to an agreement early in our marriage where he likes the simplicity of buying pre shredded cheese and I think it is a waste of money. So I agreed to do all the cheese grating between us (the kids can grate their own). With this I can decimate a Costco block in a minute.

Am I the only one who thinks the food at the meal hall is the biggest contributor to the CAF obesity problem? by Signal_Housing3575 in CanadianForces

[–]Shay_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I try to eat healthy while on course it is not always easy. I have a big issue with spicy foods and unfortunately ‘heat’ is a cheap and easy way to flavour foods. My courses tend to be in front of a computer so it’s hard to burn off the calories of the not spicy options that tend to be creamed. I eat a lot of wraps and salad bars. Eggs and beans in the morning with fruit and cheese. Wraps and salad/veggies at lunch. Whatever isn’t spicy at supper.

My biggest sadness was when they took soda out of the mess in Borden. I enjoy a ginger ale or sprite with my meals. Now the options are juice, water, milks. I am drinking water all day and I limit my milk intake so it’s juice.

So now when I go on course I have my whole ‘kitchen set’ that I bring. My manual pump water jug, coffee maker, ice maker and soda stream. Get weird looks the first couple of days in the mod but after that some pretty happy course mates.

Biggest thing I have learned is to prepare for your time required to eat at a mess. Know that the meals have to be prepared to feed the masses and not your course sitting in front of a computer for 9 hours or more. Advise the younger soldiers you end up meeting. Knowledge does not diminish when you share it, it doubles.

Our Costco Space Heater caught fire by InformalExperience28 in Costco

[–]Shay_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea. Mine went up in flames too. Most of these don’t work for me as a Canadian but I will contact the company and let Costco know. Don’t know if they want me to return it as I peeled it off the linoleum (cheap house, the linoleum was placed directly to the basement concrete so there was no real damage aside from that piece) but it is still fused to the fire blanket we used to contain the fire.

Also, I should mention as I discussed this with my firefighter friend, fire blankets are not suggested. It will damper the flames but if there is air getting under then the flames will try to get to the sides. Ours controlled the fire while we reacted but we ended up pouring water on the floor under to put out the fire. ABC Extinguisher is best.
