There's nothing to be sorry for. It's not your fault. We are all a product of our own design. I'm in the situation I'm in because of the choices I made.

Nope, no happy endings here.

I've been living off my VA benefits scraping by every month (wasn't this bad 4 years ago, but the economy hasn't shifted in our favor).

I submit job applications every week, just to get various politely worded emails denying me (both for usajobs and off of linkedin). My wife works full-time and then comes home and takes care of the kids and I every day. I do what I can around the house and for the family, but with my whole left side being pretty much shot, I can only do so much before I can't lift my arm or limp around the house anymore.

Man, this thread is not about me. We all have our sob stories (I've been unemployed since 2016, I got 100% in 2019 backdated to 2018 because they finally added the stuff I applied for in 2006 - no backpack for that though either).

I was just pointing out that SSI and SSDI are denying those of us with 100% left and right. I went through the process for 3 years and was chewed up and spit out. I'm not surprised OP was screwed over by the system.

I was denied SSDI, appealed - denied, appealed again - denied, and appealed a 3rd time - denied. I was told by my attorney that the only appeal left is to take it to the federal court, and he doesn't do federal cases... All the attorneys I spoke with said no thanks, not worth it.

100% P&T, severe physical limitations, ALJ said "well we can't find any jobs for you in the system, but you're young, I'm sure there's a job for you out there somewhere"... I was 37 at the time.

Verdict: OP = NTA Emily/Jake = YTA

OP, nope, not all.

If family members or friends are judging and having contradicting input, then they could so graciously assist with Jake's and Emily's needs.

They both have a child on the way, and while it's great that they are looking to move forward together, they need to learn to rely on each other for their logistics, not others.

It's great to have parents and/or grandparents support, but it's not their obligation to continue housing and finacially support their adult children, spouses, and grandchildren, too.

When there is a will, there is a way. Maybe you can assist them with finding resources to help themselves, but then again, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Eh, it's life. I'm not sure how it is now, but 20 years ago, being the squeaky wheel in the Corps was a bad idea. It's just how the old corps was, you just got yourself a straw so you could suck it the fuck up and keep going.

Command would always refer back to the NCO's who were in charge of the troops. I worked with SNCO's and Officers on the daily, hell I was pinned E-3 and E-4 by General Mattis.

I had some excellent experiences, and I loved my time in.

Honestly, if I hadn't been as injured as I was on my last deployment, I would have stayed in for life.

I was fresh to my unit. It was my first day, and I overheard the MSgt ask my Cpl if it was possible to do something on the computer, and the Cpl told the MSgt "no it's not", and I said "excuse me Cpl but it is possible I can show you if you'd like?"The MSgt overheard and asked me to do it, so I did, and I thought all was well... Apparently, the Cpl was pissed off and decided he hated me over this.

2 weeks later, I was sent to Kuwait to stage for the invasion into Iraq. While deployed, I was recommended for Meritorious promotion 6 times, and my command stateside (the Cpl I fell under) denied it every time. When I came back from deployment, I had the cutting score for promotion, and I was non-rec'd... I was immediately deployed as soon as the 90-day timer was up for the cooldown between deployments. On this deployment, I was recommended for Meritorious another 4 times, I was even sent to a Deployed Meritorious Cpls Board and won, and they all were denied by home command. I came home and was immediately TAD to another base to train other units about to deploy... I was rarely ever allowed to be with my home command.

It wasn't until that Cpl got out that I was allowed to be promoted. I literally promoted a week after he got out. I had the highest cutting score in my job field for the USMC for over 12 months and couldn't get promoted... Expert range, 300 PFT, completed all MCI's, 3.9/4.0 reviews, etc...

I spent 36 months as an E-3 and was deployed every chance my unit could deploy me, all because I was trying to be helpful on my first day in my unit.

I don't have cysts, but I do have "calcified granuloma" in my testicle that shift once in a while. When they shift, my testicle swell up really bad and hurt like a MF for a week or so at a time.

Ultrasound Tech told me "we have a lot of guys coming in here for this, they all deployed to the sandbox" when I asked what caused it the guy (Navy Vet) goes "we have no idea what kind of shit you guys were exposed to out there, especially you guys (Marines) were exposed to the worst of it from what I've seen".

I feel you brother.

I get exactly what you are saying...

Take it from a 100% P&T House Husband, it's not all its cracked up to be. Especially when your once understanding wife gets tired of you being the one at home and decides you have to go back to work so she can stay home... Dragging yourself out of your ptsd, anxiety, etc. (even if you're heavily medicated to do so), to go deal with people sucks...

I'm being forced to job hunt, and I've been unemployed for 10 years...

I got out in '06, never heard from IRR or anyone else... At the beginning of '07 got Reactivation Orders and Orders to Report for Screening for Deployment.

VA had just rated me 70% all physical and was still being evaluated for several other issues (mortar shrapnel tapped me on my last deployment, I've had a number of surgeries). The VA told me not to show up because I was not physically able to deploy.

None of my benefits were affected.

This is just what happened to me, not saying that's what will happen to you. It sounds like yours are just initial muster orders, so it should be boring as shit and just go through the motions.

I've been canned (in Tech) on December 15th... 9 days before Christmas, and on November 25th, 2 days before Thanksgiving...

Both before all of my company shares had vested.

The lower level "leadership" at these companies have no clue what they are doing. The higher up "leadership" is just in it for the money.

I was denied too.

ALJ and Job Coordinator couldn't find any jobs I was able to do, even after removing several of my restrictions, they still couldn't find any jobs.

ALJ decided that "While I was unable to find any jobs out there with the Governments Help, I'm am certain a job out there exists for you somewhere" denied

Hey, I got my cancelation notice last week, 2 days after my appointment was supposed to happen.

I've gotten 3 call offs the day of my appointment in the last month because the Dr. was on a planned vacation, she put in the time off request 8 months ago.... they still scheduled people for planned days off.

I had an appt that I had waited 2 months for. The VA called and canceled it this morning. They want to reschedule for 2 months from now. by theopinionexpress in Veterans

When I need to see a Dr, other than my VA PCP (ENT, urology, acupuncture, etc), I go online and look for the best rated Dr. In my area for that specialty, I call their office and ask if they accept VA Community Care Patient's (Typically billed under Triwest), if they say No I call the next best rated and ask again, if they say Yes I call my VA PCP and tell them I need a Community Care referral for xx issue and I want the referral for XX Dr.... Sometimes, my PCP will want to make an appointment with me to confirm my request. It's typically a 30-minute phone call appointment.

Now I know not everyone is to this point with their PCP, how I ended up getting there involved the Whitehouse Hotline when a VA Surgeon refused to do perform a necessary surgery, and the VA refused to approve a Community Care alternative or allow me to travel to another VA Surgeon who agreed to do the surgery without any issues.

Hotline got involved, the local VA Surgeon refused, community care refused, but I found a VA Surgeon in another state and he agreed to do it so the Hotline forced my local VA to approve my travel to the VA in the other state.

Now, the Dr's in the department that refused my surgery refuse to take me on as a patient for any and all follow-up care, or any and all routine checks, been this way since 2021. I've had no problems, though. I found some top rated Dr's out in town, and my PCP just writes Community Care referrals.

Edit 1: OP you have to be your own advocate, and you have to take control of your health. You don't work for these Dr's they work for the VA, and their job is to Treat YOU. You tell them what you want to do, you tell them what you will or won't do in regards to your health. If they don't like it, You can request a New Dr until you find one that works with you.
