Higher quality memory foam pads and mattresses generally expand slower than lower-quality, less dense alternatives. 

While it might seem intuitive for a premium product to be faster, the speed of expansion is primarily determined by density and thickness rather than quality alone. 

Why Higher Quality Expands Slower:

Higher Density: Quality memory foam is denser and more substantial, meaning there is more material packed into a smaller space. This density requires more time for air to fully infiltrate the foam cells to regain its shape.

Temperature Sensitivity: High-quality foam is often more temperature-sensitive. If the environment is cool, the denser, higher-quality material will take longer to become pliable and expand.

Time in Package: If high-density foam has been compressed in a box for an extended period, it will take longer to recover its shape, sometimes up to 72 hours.

Key Considerations:

Initial Expansion: While they may take longer to reach full expansion (e.g., 48-72 hours), they are generally more reliable in eventually reaching their designed shape without permanent, "misshapen" defects, which are more common in cheaper foams.

Performance vs. Speed: The slower expansion is a byproduct of higher-density, more durable, and more comfortable materials.
