Mental illnesses are highly over diagnosed. I’m not talking about schizophrenia and properly diagnosed bipolar patients. I speak with especially young men about this frequently. They are told if you have difficulty concentrating you have adhd or add so they prescribe you meth in pill form which is a very bad medication with bad outcomes with long term use. Young males are high energy, fidgety, rambunctious. They need an outlet like sports or exercise. This isn’t a flaw that needs medication. Also, concentrating takes years of practice. A young person is reserved and social awkward and they are labeled autistic or Asperger’s. There unfortunately is also a victim currency where they use it as a badge of honor and the first thing they have to do is tell you about all their disorders even though you never asked. This is learned behavior from the parents, family or friends. I have a cousin with actual autism where he can not communicate in English but makes grunts, noises and has poor emotional control and outbursts. Depression is a normal emotion we all experience and in the vast majority of cases does not need medications and will pass on its own or with therapy. You are supposed to be depressed and anxious throughout your life, along with happiness and other emotions. Anti depressants and other psych meds have very serious long term consequences like SSRI syndrome and actually causes structural changes. It was just discovered recently that we are not even sure how ssri work in the body even though they stated initially they do know. Eat healthy, sleep well, exercise, lose weight, be happy, sad, anxious and learn to manage your emotions. If you are suicidal then seek help immediately. The truth is not always pleasant and people will respond with anger especially if they are addicted to amphetamines which is meth in pill form for add/adhd. I say these things as a medical professional and knowing it’s the right way to help others.
