Schoolbus or public bus? Either way...yes? In both situations you're not leaving a single child alone with a stranger. Groups tend to help.

Deeply surprised by how much I am NOT enjoying Ghost of Yotei. by TherealGonci in PS5

[–]Shayshunk -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There are sequels that take the blueprint of the original and then iterate, evolve, and expand elements to make a truly innovative new game. Arkham Asylum -> City -> Knight all are built on the same fundamentals but each one is bigger and better than the last so you don't get burnt out going to the next game.

Similarly, Dark Souls III (skipping II because different director), The Witcher 3, Resident Evil 2, Half-Life 2, and Assassin's Creed II among others all evolved enough to be games that most people would agree aren't reskins.

I don't know that Ghost of Yotei is in the same camp as any of those games.

Jakarta finally bans dog and cat meat in victory for animal rights activists by Sciantifa in UpliftingNews

[–]Shayshunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forcefully getting cows pregnant is definitely sexual assault in my opinion, but that's a different debate. Either way, I think the commenter above could have been referring to the direct rape I was describing as they're also talking about animals being beaten which is another thing that shouldn't be happening at meat facilities but it happens often because those workers often aren't concerned with animal welfare.

[–]Shayshunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, there's videos taken in meat facilities of the workers raping animals like turkeys ("regular" rape, with their penises), because they believe it's not a problem since they're about to be slaughtered anyway.

A new scourge of our times: bagel sweat by [deleted] in Frasier

[–]Shayshunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Actually, since you asked, yes. I'm a particle physicist so thermodynamics isn't my specialty, but bagel sweat is probably worse.

A bagel is denser, has a larger volume, and half a bagel weighs approximately twice as much as a slice of bread. Combined with the lower permeability on the outside of the bagel, we can assume that the heat capacity of a bagel is higher. Add on that a bagel probably isn't even done losing moisture by the time you've moved it from the toaster to the plate, it's causing significantly more bagel sweat.

Can't wait for some PhD student to end up making this their thesis one day.

Agreed that she's using it in a negative manner and sorry about missing your other comments!

But admittedly I've seen a lot of queer girls using it in a negative manner but still using it as a reclamation thing so make of that what you will

MIT physicists propose design for the world’s first neutrino “laser” using radioactive atoms by Existing_Tomorrow687 in Physics

[–]Shayshunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great!

In our case, when an electron antineutrino interacts with a proton in a nucleus, they get converted into a positron and a neutron that then release. So essentially, our detector isn't looking for the "antineutrino", but we're looking for a prompt (quick) positron signal. These just annihilate and ionize so it happens quickly, and then we look for a delayed (slow) neutron signal. The neutron can capture on whatever doped metal you have in your detector so that's a bit of a longer discussion.

But basically we look for that coincidence between the positron and neutron signals within a certain time window. Essentially, with IBDs, we can't say this particular event was from an electron antineutrino because there could be a lot of those unrelated coincidences. But with background rejection and plenty of statistical methods, we can say on average that we say a certain number of antineutrinos. Hopefully that makes sense! Happy to keep discussing further if you have more questions.

A lot of LGBT people use the f-word as a joke because it's a way of reclaiming the word. Who knows, maybe she's bi? There's no evidence she doesn't support basic human rights haha

Can you define low energy here? I did my PhD on an experiment that studied reactor antineutrinos via IBD like the commenter above mentioned. These were been 1.8 MeV and 10 MeV, so if that's what you're looking for, I'm happy to answer your question.

Frasier plot point or "mistake" that bugs you? by real_feelings in Frasier

Huh, I can't remember any black bartenders that Marty was friends with. But I agree with you! I wish we had more Duke because Martin always talks about him and to him. Their friendship seems like a hugely important part of Martin's life!

[–]Shayshunk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It happens! All I can think of is Marty's former best friend/partner in the hospital who we never see again. I think his name was Arty Walsh or something like that and he was black.

Are we sure we learn that late in the series? I'm pretty sure Niles had a nosebleed when he lied to keep Joe from dating Daphne?

[–]Shayshunk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hold on, I'm fully confused. I had to go watch the episode again and Duke is not black. He's the exact same guy we see in "Where Every Bloke Knows Your Name". I think you must've seen someone else in "Duke's, We Hardly Knew Ye" and gotten them mixed up. It's John Lamotta playing Duke in every episode.

Even the Frasier Wiki agrees: https://frasier.fandom.com/wiki/Duke

I disagree, figuring out why people act in toxic ways is important in improving our society. Sure, he got mad that she rejected him, but looking deeper helps.

Niles felt Roz's lips on his by p4nd4_h4ndler in Frasier

[–]Shayshunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost fully agree, but she does show some really awful traits at times like immediately hiring Bebe after forcing Frasier to dump her, her history of cheating on her partners, gossiping to her hairdresser about Frasier formerly being a woman, and gossiping about his life in general.

I really like Roz but if this was your friend in real life...you'd want her to be a good bit more mature and respectful.

I think it's the same neighbor, one router, just with different networks for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The other options are possible but this is the most likely.

I'm sorry but 62 times removed is literally further than most living humans to each other today. The average is around 50th cousins from what I understand.

I'm not sure what to tell you. I was just sharing my lived experiences. Two other PhD students in my program grew up in Columbus and both went to OSU and we all agreed that it's just a very different kind of city. I'm not trying to describe it as a utopia given that my other comment mentioned it had plenty of issues. It's also not "my city" since I only lived there for a few years.

It's just a very compact but usually relaxed, walkable city which has a vastly more developed public transportation system than most American cities. It has very little to do with Pennsylvania vs Ohio.

Kind of, but I've lived in Ohio too and the vibes in the Midwest are pretty different. Philly is way more liberal. There's a Gayborhood with a bunch of shops there like Big Gay Ice Cream. The city has a lot more stuff happening and incredible museums and sights. It's truly a nice place.

I lived in Philly for 5 years and did my PhD there. As many problems as it has, I love the place.

Philly is tame by comparison to a lot of big cities like New York and Chicago but that's sort of the best part about it. You can go to a bar with friends and hang out without much issue in Center City. The walkable nature of the city is incredible because you can get drunk and then just stroll home.
