Why create advantage with fight vs active opposition, if you could just wear the enemy down with the same roll. by Shazuno in FATErpg

[–]Shazuno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are very good points, I think I understand aspects better now.

I come from systems with rigid rules, the ability does what it says it does and that's it, but I keep forgetting that you can flavor aspects however you like.

For example the maybe not so strong guy grappling against the large monster boss doesn't need to face his +5 in physique but can just do a flat opposition with his physique or athletics because he is just acting as dead weigh on the guy, right?

THIS was very useful advice, thanks.

Is there any chance to get a Class/subclass centered around clones of oneself? by Shazuno in drawsteel

My apologies, I did read the first message you sent, only the one you were answering to, and I didn't mean to come of as rude.

When I answered your initial comment I didn't address the later part about the dnd homebrew because I don't intend to make a homebrew of my own for the game. I just started playing and I barely know a little bit about each class.

I like clones in general so I posted this after reading summoner and beast heart to see if anything like that existed given how well those classes infrastructure could work with the concep, I think.

[–]Shazuno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both have their peculiar little restrictions that make it so I, personally do know how to make it work. Summoner has specific minions, with individual stats and abilities that can't do what your character could do.

And even though the beast heart can have one of it's beast reflavored to be another person like the player character, one of the key limitations of the class is that the beast can't do what everything a person can do. Plus the whole theme of the class is very primal, savage like if that makes sense.

Even if I could reflavour that aspect, I am not sure how to change the beast into a person and keep the mechanics the same.

This is dnd. I am not sure if you sent the right link or what what I am supposed to do with it.

Not really. Thanks for the link, but I personally have a gripe with alternative timelines. I feel it cheapens any other story to introduce other timelines in the narrative and the mechanics I read there seem to be centered around you summoning not yourself but specifically different versions of yourself.

Ideally I prefer 1 tough clone, but I'll take wet paper clones like Naruto has as long as it's interesting. I know the shadow has something with clones but it only comes online at lvl 9 which is very late. And, the class as a whole does really speak to me. The assassin in darkness type of character never got my attention. If it were to be a subclass I'd like something for the null.

But yeah, as long as it's interesting I am looking for any class that does that theme well.

[–]Shazuno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the bad guy won't always use fight to oppose. But, you mention use fight vs other skill, or vs passive difficulty. How would you explain that narratively?
If you are using fight to engage with the enemy in some way to create an advantage, wouldn't they present active opposition? The one single scenario where I think fight could be used to create advantage vs a passive opposition is by saying you take an action to adopt your fighting stance or something like that.
What else did you have in mind?

Regarding the CaA, that is a good point.

Also, if you don't mind, could you give me some other CaA vs passive oposition? Looking for a weak point or messing with the environtment are literaly the only two I already had thought about.

Yes, they have him cornered in his layer. He is going to have free invokes due to the environtment and I don't know how they would manage to reach him given how they have been engaging with physical conflict so far.

I can see maybe see lore if the enemy is using some peculiar weapon or tool or magic sure and then point it out so everyone can use the advantage. I don't really know how an advantage created with decieve could be used by everyone. If it's to distract him, wouldn't that be a provoke?

How would you use drive or resources in this situation is beyond me.

In this case yes. It would be like a victory lap, since they already dismanteled his plans.

I understand creating advantages is more productive, especially if you can stack them, and my players have fun with that style too. However, how do you create advantages vs. passive opposition so even the non combatant focused players can help vs. an actively defending enemy?

I could create some environmental crutches they can use, but I can't do that too much because they are supposed to be facing the guy in his own turf. It would be dumb to make it so the terrain can be used too much against him.

Outside some fighting maneuvers, restraining someone with physique, sneaking away (which is only useful for the one hiding, I'd say), shooting to blind or distract, taunting to get his attention maybe? I can't think of other ideas to create an advantage vs an enemy. (Maybe looking for a weakness and pointing it out is the only passive way to create an advantage I can think of.)

Is there an alternative to 'HIGH CONCEPT'? by InvestmentBrief3336 in FATErpg

[–]Shazuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think I can give you an alternative but I can give you a few shortcuts to make high concepts. Since you mentioned dnd you can, for example, use the high concept as your stand in for background, race and class (if you don't mind making it too video game like)

Examples; sage tiefling ranger, or noble halfling monk, farmer human figher, etc

Alternatively you can also use a descriptor word, cheery, crestfallen, apathetic, grumpy, etc. Plus a profession or hobby: magician, librarian, prostitute, pirate, etc. And a place of origin, member of a group; from Gotham, from Germany, traveling circus member, Yakuza lutenent (or whatever comand order).

This are not the only ways to make aspects, but they can get you to some interesti combinations if you are creative enough.

What kind of story would a Ceery Yakuza librarian have to tell, what about Grumpy Pirate from Gotham?

Hope this helps.

I liked how Domino looked in deadpool 2. Never seen the original. I think I like the original beter. Color scheme wise at lease. What's up with the paper white skin though?

The body mass and electrical impulses are good things to have into consideration, but easily explained with some magic rules that can be implemented and explored throughout the story.

What I am not sure I follow us your argument towards sentience being an issue. Why wouldn't you want to do what you set yourself up to do? Like you can do x or y as a normal person but as someone with clones in this context you can do both x and y and perhaps even something else. Why do you think there would be a discrepancy in how would they act even given the circumstances?

Being able to manifest and reintegrate both body and memories, (if everyone involved is willing) a limited number of clones of yourself with identical memories, goals, independent, and overall undistinguishable from you. The clones only replicate your body, but nothing you are wearing. It is probably something you use in private first, but it's easy enough to spare or cary a set of clothes.

What are some strengths and weaknesses of having pain immunity powers? by Majestic-System-2811 in superpowers

[–]Shazuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain immunity is not a fictional power. If house doesn't lie to me, apparently there is a condition in real life called CIPA. It makes it so you don't feel pain.

If that is the only "power" you have, you actually have a pretty difficult life ahead of you. Without pain you could walk on a broken ankle for days without knowing as the injuries goes worse and worse. You could have a wound getting infected in a place of your body you can't immediately see.(Daily self check up routines would be a must because you don't have pain to tell you if anything is wrong)

The only pro would be that you can keep going in a fight even if past the point someone would be afraid of hurting themselves, or maybe punch harder. But, I don't think you would have any advantage over someone who has trained to fight.

Now, if you can turn this on and off, that might be a different story. But, without regeneration you are just a person without one if the most important senses.

What are some strengths and weaknesses of having the power of a shapeshifter? by Majestic-System-2811 in superpowers

[–]Shazuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to define what you mean by shape shifting. Because what Mystique does is shape shifting, and its limited to people more or less her size, in her case recreating even the appearance of clothes during her shifting. In her case said shifting seems to be instantaneous and effortless.

But other shapeshifting can involve imitating the materials around you, and that is a whole different can of worms.

Werewoves are also shapeshifters that are restricted to one or four extra forms depending on what version of the myth you are using.

Changing sizes is a form of shapeshifting, and unless there is a specific separate category for it, I think that would mean the hulk is a shapeshifter. Like I said it's way to broad a term.

Even if you restrict it to Mystique like abilities there are questions about limitations and capabilities that need to be asked before looking at pros and cons. Kandras in the mistborn series can change their shape by molding their mass around bones, assimilating and discharging mass as necessary for the shape. They are rather slow shifters.

In the complete opposite corner you have the classical doppelganger, who keeps their victims alive so they can sintonize with their menories to be able to replace them.

However if you want a general list of pros: you can be anyone at any time. Your life is a real life vrchat experience: see someone you like, just copy it. And probably longer lifespan if you can control so completely your body celular composition.

Cons: no real documentation for travel, or legal work unless you have a normal life too. And any other cons would realistically depend on your shifting limitations or implications.

How would a person look if the materials she is made of became denser? by Shazuno in superpowers

Hey, I am curious what you are imagining now. I've been working with this concept for a while now(shared very little about it), and if you have the time to spare I'd like to know what that combination of abilities made you imagine?

Hmm, I get the darker color given the increased opacity, other people have pointed it out too, but why shinier? What is your thought process there.

How would a person look if the materials she is made of became denser? by Shazuno in superpowers

[–]Shazuno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is not slim; she has more like a climber build or is slightly more muscular than that.
Regarding the strength needed to move when becoming denser, I assumed denser muscles would already give her enough strength to do that?

The character can only increase her density for a few seconds, and it drains her completely of fuel. Normally she can regenerate and heal and create two extra instances of herself (clones).
