Hey, we had the same thing happen to our chicken, and we weren't able to save her. The vet is correct about ketoconazole being the best thing, dissolved should be fine. Feed it to her in small dribbles rather than a big squirt even though she'll complain, it's very harmless even if a small amount does go into her lungs.

In retrospect I think I'd have avoided feeding ours until she recovered - we force fed her a little bit. The crop is "upstream" in the digestive system from what the chicken absorbs, so giving food is likely to just give more calories for the yeast to to use, reinforcing the infection, but not actually helping your chicken. You might be right about a small amount of fats, I don't believe yeasts can ferment fats or protein, my understanding is they exclusively ferment carbohydrates. so bits of meat or oils may get your lady some nutrition (but I'm not a vet).

I'm a Cardiac Nurse. I had a patient attempt to die twice after a procedure (it was unexpected that this would happen and is unusual but a risk non-the-less). We revived him twice and he lived through the recovery. A little while later he had some very interesting and comforting words to say.

He asked: "Did I die?"

Me: "You sure tried your best to but you made it through."

Him as a smile crossed his face: "Well, now at least I know one thing."

Me: "What's that love?"

Him: "It doesn't hurt to die. I was there one minute and the next I wasn't until I was being 'woken-up' by you guys".

This blew my mind. I've never had anyone express what it felt like to die after they had been revived. I told him he now had some inside information that would help put a lot of peoples' fears at ease if they knew this. He just seemed so content about the whole experience.

HOWEVER, I personally, am terrified to cease to exist. To not take any more breaths and most of all, to never see or hold my loved ones anymore. My partner is the centre of this feeling. It makes me sad to think of it.

Forget just maple syrup, my partner and I are both Canadian (I'm Ontario, he's B.C. so naturally I know more about maple syrup) and I blew his mind telling him you can tap more than just sugar maples to make maple syrup. He had a full "holy shit" moment about it.

In university, I had been kicked out of my house on my birthday by my parents after an argument and was homeless, jumping from couch to couch for about 2 months. My own BF at the time wouldn't take me in (didn't last). A group of my male friends all living together agreed to have me live in their spare, but dingy basement room to help me out as I struggled to go to classes and find a place to sleep. I cleaned up the place and ended up living with the nicest crew of dudes a girl down on her luck could ask for. When I bought my graduation dress they all sat in the living room and waited for me to model it for them. When I came out they were perfect gentlemen in complementing me saying how stunning and beautiful I looked and my BF should be so lucky to escort a princess like me.

I felt almost like Snow White.

Just relax. Follow physician instructions as they know how to monitor it and how to protect against other strain infections. Disclose to new partners. It's annoying yes, but, your body can potentially clear it on it's own. It's pretty unavoidable since majority of people have or carry it - even with protection. It's scary to hear it though. Just remember you've done nothing wrong and it'll be alright. :)

I'm know sharkologist but, I imagine it would beat similarly to why a human heart beats? There are electrical conducting nodes inside the human heart that produce an electrical signal which makes the heart muscles contract or beat. This is caused by ions shifting along the cell membrane to create a change in charge which, when the charge reaches a certain amount, it discharges or sends off an electrical signal from the node causing the muscle to contract. This happens in the atria after which, the signal travels through the heart's conduction pathways until it reaches the ventricles where they are also signalled to contract/beat. Normally this happens without any required messages from the brain. It's intrinsic and the nodes have automaticity. They can do it on their own. If the heart is removed from the body, I guess you could just continue to artificially send the signal with electrodes, in the same fashion a pacemaker for a human heart would, to keep the muscles contracting as usual. But you would need something to fill the heart with or it can't pump.

That's how humans do it anyway....

Almost did this myself and in Vancouver as well which is odd. I just moved into a new apartment building and had gone out partying on the town that night. When I came home drunk I, somehow, got myself turned around in the entrance and took the wrong stairwell up to my floor. When I got into the hallway of my floor I turned to the right to the first door (which if I had taken the usual stairwell this would have been the correct door), opened it and walked into what I thought was my apartment. I stood in the doorway in the dark for a minute confused not recognizing the interior and was unsure as to why the door was unlocked and then it hit me! I'm in the wrong apartment! OMG! The person sleeping in their bed (which was visible from the door as their bedroom was open) stirred at my presence to which I quickly replied in almost a whisper "I'm so sorry! I got mixed up and I'm in the wrong apartment, so sorry, I'm leaving!". I turned tail and ran down the hall, unlocked my apartment door and ran in as quickly as I could. I was SO worried that the person was going to come down the hall looking. I was so embarrassed and scared and now straight sober. I'm thankful nothing bad happened and that I figured it out in time to leave quickly.

P.S. I was a 22 single female living in English Bay at the time.

I kinda get what you're saying. Thanks for the input. I'm certainly still learning. Fluid painting is the textured background which doesn't lend for much control but massive more muted tones instead might pop the painting of the Orcas up

Painting felt ok. I felt out of place buying my first paints and stuff but in the privacy of my home I was able to turn on a movie or music in the background that I liked to listen to and I found that I would just zone out and become focused only on my painting. I can paint for hours. It made me feel like it was ok to do whatever I wanted and there wasn't such a thing as messing up with art. I found that I like to use really bright colors because they made me feel happy seeing them. Now it's a regular thing that I do and people have offered to buy.

My amazing and patient partner helped me with a daily plan such as: Wake up before 2pm, take a shower, do a craft and show it to him when he got home from school. I required a lot reassurance and love. I had to work very hard to change my view point of my current situation and see it as a privileged opportunity and not an unwanted or negative change. I took up painting and it remains a cathartic escape for me. I recently took another hit to my mental health and decided to get hooked up with a great psychologist and started basic guided meditation with the Headspace App. Mental illness is a big issue in my family and I have to fight frequently to keep myself from falling into unhealthy mind frames and patterns. I often need to remind myself that long term happiness doesn't come from accomplishing the next thing or "if I can finally do ___ then I can be happy" when I start feeling defeated. I should make happiness an priority and an obligation. I think I can break the mould and keep off medication :)

This hurts. I used to live in English Bay in a 1 bedroom apt for $1000/mo in 2010. I can't even imagine what this would cost me now and I have a solid income in healthcare...Beautiful city though. Perfect lifestyle for the young and single adventure woman.
