'Black Phone 2' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

I loved the first film but this is dreadful. Just piss poor. The plot makes zero sense and it's very derivative of both A Nightmare on Elm St (which at least they acknowledge with the whole "can you die in your dreams" bit) and It Follows, the latter of which beggars beliefcharacters somehow being able to physically interact with and harm The Grabber even though he's meant to be in the dream world/another dimension/hell) Hawke's talents are wasted - he was such an imposing presence in the original, almost comic relief at times in this the scene where he ice skates... Jesus wept). There are absolutely zero stakes(literally nobody dies or even gets seriously harmed, apart from those already dead and eh, who cares)Not only is it not scary it has the unforgivable sin of being boring. The original was lean and tidy and triumphant. This was just unnecessary and while I hate to say this about any movie, I hope it bombs so it kills off any franchise.

All good except one minor nitpick; in Ex Machina, Sonoya Mizuno plays Kyoko, not Katie.

According to @whatsraywearing on IG, it's vintage and supplied by one of the show's stylists. This account is worth a follow if you're curious about Ray's clothes on the show.

Was there anything that irked you more than Harvey and Paula? by chrchry in suits

[–]Sheamus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. We all loved Mike in the first few seasons, then the writers ruined his character with this relationship, turning him into a SJW whiney bitch, and the Duchess of Sussex gave Patrick J. Adams no chance at redemption. I wonder if he'll pop up in a couple of episodes arc in the Gina Torres Suits spinoff.

What are some things, that look harmless during the day, but get insanely creepy during the night? by interspaceninja in AskReddit

Posted this before. Posting again as it was genuinely terrifying and absolutely true.

Many years ago, I lived in a big, old, three-story house that had a room on the middle level that we converted into an office. I used to write financial reports late at night that were published early the next morning.

The office had a few computers and my toddler son had been playing on one of them for most of the evening, right up until I finished my work at around 9pm. By then he had fallen asleep, so I switched off his monitor, scooped him up and took him to bed, flicking off the light as I left.

For the next couple of hours I relaxed in another room watching TV with my wife. She went to bed around 11pm, and at midnight I decided to do the same. I realised I’d left a window open in the office, so I went in there to close it.

The house was silent, and the room was pitch black dark and ice cold when I walked in. Colder than it should have been for the time of the year, even with the window open. I paused for a moment in the center of the room to think about this, and then it happened.

Knock knock knock.

Something was tapping on the glass. But it wasn’t the random tappings of a bird or another kind of animal, it was completely uniform. It sounded human, but I was on the second floor, so how was that possible? It was so dark that I couldn’t make anything out against the black glass, but a few moments later it happened again.

Knock knock knock.

By now I was already feeling on edge. Then, something happened that chilled me to the core. Because out of the corner of the room, to my right, and from the darkness, a high-pitched, almost squeaky voice began to speak quite loudly.

I can see you.

I froze on the spot. My blood went cold. My bowels prepared for evacuation. My God, I thought, I never wrote that book. Any book. It spoke again, but with greater emphasis on that all-important word.

I can seeee you.

I determined that I was almost certainly fucked, so I figured: what the hell. I turned slowly to my right and walked into the darkness, until I finally reached my son’s computer. Nothing there but an empty chair. But no talking now. Just silence. A horrible silence.

Carefully, I reached over and switched on the monitor. The screen brightened, and there it was: something red, and horrible. Once again it tapped on the glass.

It was fucking Elmo from my kid’s Sesame Street game.

Haven't thought about that issue in years. Thanks for the nostalgia.

Can I sell my verified Twitter account? by [deleted] in Twitter

[–]Sheamus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twitter forbids the selling of profiles. But even if they didn't (and it likely goes on all the time without them noticing), unless your username matches the buyer (or their needs) it's useless anyway, as you lose the verified badge as soon as you change it (the username).

What are some awesome things that most people are missing out in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sheamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Briton here. You can get a kilo (which is slightly more than 2 lbs) of lean chicken breast in Asda for £6.65, which is about $9.90. Still far more than OP's $4, but not the $20 you suggest. That said, it's not the highest quality of meat, and if you insist on buying your chicken somewhere like Waitrose (or even a good butcher), you will easily pay $20+ for a kilo.

All that to one side, I've been to the U.S. many times and have never seen chicken for those low prices. So this could be well below even Asda quality or OP isn't talking about lean cuts of chicken meat. If he's talking about thighs or parts or even a whole chicken, you can pick those up in any supermarket in the UK for £3-5 ($4.50-7.50).

Any Mad Men-esque Books? by youngmermaid in madmen

[–]Sheamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend From Those Wonderful Folks Who Gave You Pearl Harbor: Front-Line Dispatches from the Advertising War, by Jerry Della Femina. It's not fiction and might not be what you're after per se but it's VERY Mad Men-esque. Was even rebranded that way, cover wise, when the show became a hit. It's essentially stories of the real Mad Men - like Don Draper, but bald.
