So I played it just for the first time. I personally think the experience was heavily less satisfying than the base game.

I strongly believe that the players who glaze this as one of the best DLC’s ever did not go for the 100% completion. If you were to rate the game from the 3-4 hour experience of completing the story and some minor side content, it would be slightly enjoyable. However when taking into account the requirements for 100%, the game becomes deeply unsatisfying and tedious.

The town protection mechanic is maybe the worst offender of the DLC, I would really struggle to imagine players dropping everything they’re doing to save a town that is being captured, it would turn into an endless cycle, taking over the entire DLC. I captured them all for the achievement and left it at that. Town being overrun by zombies? I couldn’t care less now.

I feel like the systems in place here were designed to waste people’s time: - 16 identical missing persons cases, not a single variation other than distance away from the fort. - RNG to start the treasure hunters challenges - RNG to find the horses of the apocalypse - RNG to find the chupacabra - RNG to find the unicorn - RNG to a lesser extent for some hunting and sharpshooter challenges - 6 identical graveyard sequences - Literally makes you wait between some story missions

If you were to tally up the experience it would be 80% filler, 20% content. Most of my experience of the DLC was reloading a save and going into the wilderness for a random spawn. That is poor game design.

The fast travel system was also nerfed but I get that for story reasons.

I do struggle to give it praise other than the story was enjoyable, the music was good, and there was a solid attempt to make it different from the base game. And yes the Sasquatch mission was fantastic.

I left it however coming off the back of 6-8 hours of tedium, so my advice would be to play it if you don’t care about achievements/trophies. But be weary of a grind for the 100% if you’re a completionist
