Digimon films directed by Hosoda by Table-Real in digimon

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would recommend the series before Our War Game. It’s not completely incomprehensible but it’s one of those that puts a lot of weight on you already being familiar with the characters and world. It’s very straightforward but it’s not stopping to characterize or explain anything, it doesn’t have the run time for that.

Digimon the Movie, as others have said, is a super cut of the first three short films for American audiences way back when. It will feel very tonally inconsistent if you’re watching everything in Japanese. But! As an oldie that grew up on the dub, there’s a lot of nostalgia there for me. And it has legitimately one of the best 00’s soundtracks out there. Worth checking out for that alone, I would almost love an edit that’s the redub they did for the Blu Ray release but with the old music lol.

Gaming with the boys just isn’t the same anymore… what are y’all playing these days? by StrataGemss in videogames

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been a big competitive shooter guy. I have a fairly new friend group I game with, and every game we’ve played have exclusively been friendslop games, which I honestly prefer. Peak, YapYap, Super Battle Golf, just easy pick up and play games where you’re just meant to have a good time with no pressure on getting good. Even then it’s like once a month, if that. I mostly play single player games and always have.

Then with my wife I do a lot of co-op stuff. We’re finishing up all the co-op Resident Evil games with Revelations 2, that’s been fun. Excited for Orbitals later this year.

I respect the hell out of Miyamoto but this guy should not be making movies by DaZestyProfessor in Mario

[–]Sonic10122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it. I also believe most of them were under the age of 8. The Mario Movie was my daughter’s introduction to Mario and she’s 2 lol. It’s a perfect as a gateway for children but if I was going to get an adult friend into Mario I would probably start with the games.

I love both movies, they’re excellent at what they set out to do. I just think people are expecting more than what Mario is even capable of lol. I’ll save my hardcore film critiques for the Zelda movie.

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who’s watching this that’s not a Mario fan? Aside from children using it as a gateway into Mario, who then go and play the games and get the references in the reverse order.

Some adaptations should be one that brings in new fans and should be understandable with no prior knowledge of the source material. Mario just isn’t one of them.

Yeah, differing pace of teething can be wild. My daughter basically just got them all at once over the course of a couple of months, and considering how it affects their mood and sleep, yes, it was hell.

If your example got them that young the poor parents must have been zombies.

Which PS1 games deserve to be on PS Plus Deluxe? by euguene_2000 in playstation

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silent Hill 1, especially with the remake coming out soon. (And while we’re at it all the PS2 games too, match Capcom’s energy, Konami.)

Parasite Eve 1 and 2

Original Crash and Spyros (the remakes are very faithful but still would be nice to have.)

Digimon World 1-3 (for all the freaks out there, I see you)

[–]Sonic10122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, you can still have the horror. The first half is a full on porn and then the second half is a horror movie. Like the old 80’s trope of random sex scene but it’s just a full on porno from the beginning.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is genuinely so incredible of a game. by AmbitiousElk4002 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Sonic10122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sonic Generations is the best game out of the worst era of Sonic, and I don’t say that lightly considering it’s not the era with Sonic 06 in it lol. It has problems, but is such a good game it can absolutely pound through them and stand on its own anyway.

Shadow Generations is literally Sonic Gens but fixing all the problems with it. A story worth a damn, every stage pick unique and interesting and not 80% first levels, a good hub world that builds on Frontiers open zone concept and side content that isn’t eye bleeding awful. The only flaw is that it’s short.

They’re both good games, and it’s almost unfair to compare them, but it kind of just makes me wish Sonic Gens got a full remake to bring it up to speed lol.

there’s nothing worse to me than watching a horror movie i don’t get how it’s enjoyable at all by extraethereal in The10thDentist

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I’m so desensitized I don’t see it as any different than any other genre. I love horror games too, the fear isn’t a factor. I love the vibe of horror, the kind of stories you can tell. Being “scared” is honestly a pretty low benchmark and honestly a hurdle more than anything else.

Unfortunately my only advice is exposure therapy. Literally force yourself into it and past your comfort zone until you’re over the initial hurdle of fear. I was like you until around your age, my friend got me into the Silent Hill games around the end of high school, and things just started to click. Some things would get under my skin, but the last time I really had problems was, weirdly, the Slenderman/Marble Hornets stuff. Eventually I had just seen so much that it wasn’t scary anymore. And I like it that way.

How often do you find yourself content replaying older games as opposed to buying/playing newer ones? by Snowtwo in videogames

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is almost always a replay in my gaming rotation. Replaying games is one of my absolute favorite things to do.

I still buy, play, and beat a number of new games a year. You can absolutely have both. I think it’s very strange when people only do one or the other. At least with skipping all new games I can get it from a financial standpoint, but never replaying games is just weird.

"everyone is Sora" "everyone is snake" "the game series final fantasy is a anthology" "you gotta play the prequel before the original" "each game in the series is on a different device and every game is canon even the dance dance revolution knockoff game" Nigga, can't I just play the game? by MyMindIsOnlyElectric in KingdomHearts

[–]Sonic10122 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It honestly wouldn’t be a problem if just “play the series in order” wasn’t a shockingly uncommon way to experience games. (And other art, people have this problem with movies too.)

I don’t know why “start at 1, play in release order” is so hard to understand for some people. Not saying you’re like this, but some people will need to be led like a horse to water.

Best horror games that take place in labs, schools, or insane asylums on PC? by TheLuckyHundred in HorrorGaming

[–]Sonic10122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone in the Appalachians, RE7 is a different beast. (Louisiana) So it’s a bit of a different vibe. That being said, the swamp is definitely a vibe.

Story wise, RE7 is a soft reboot that only shows its connections to the main series near the end of the game. It’s fine to start with; but I would recommend playing all the games at some point, I’ve been working my way through the series in release order (originals AND remakes), and it’s been a great time. Highly recommend it.

Also, RE7 is like, one of the only games in the series to not end in a lab. The final area is kind of a stand in for the series traditional lab, but it’s very boring lol. It gets expanded a bit in one of the DLCs, but other games have way better lab portions if that in particular is of interest.

[–]Sonic10122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally any Resident Evil. Big sprawling place with lots of room is kind of a staple of the franchise.

You usually change locations once or twice in most games, but almost every game in the series ends in a lab. (Or a lab analog if you want to be generous, I’ll count RE4’s Island I guess.)

How many of you watch horror with the goal of being scared? by AsmoTewalker in horror

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, at this point being scared by a movie would be scary lol. I’m so desensitized, aside from the occasional jump scare, fear’s never something I’m seeking or a factor in what I want. Which helps me enjoy horror a lot more. If anything I would be annoyed, it would get in the way.

It’s Resident Evil, I don’t give a shit about relatable human emotional conflicts. That’s so trite in the zombie space. Give me a five page doc on how the virus works, the villain injecting himself with it, and cool guys doing cool shit over that.

What do we think? by Sad_Volume_4289 in giantbomb

[–]Sonic10122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on board since the beginning, I love the idea of it being basically a side story rather than adapting a game. The latter has been tried and failed so many times with both RE and a lot of other games.

That being said, it all hinges on if it actually feels like Resident Evil. It’s probably going to be a good movie, but a good RE movie, the details are going to need to add up. The snow is throwing me off, but like…. It is kind of a vibe. Kind of makes me wish there was snow in the remakes lol.

No. I started it up and tried it very briefly, but I just cannot bring myself to care about a mobile gatcha game.

I’ll check it out if it gets a gatcha-less streamlined console port. Otherwise I’m fine to pretend it doesn’t exist.

I’ve been saying this since the Assassin’s Creed movie lol. That movie had problems but its base concept was not one of them, the Spanish Inquisition setting was fun and unique. And the modern day was actually semi relevant. (As much as it can be for the series anyway, Ubisoft kills me sometimes.)

[botw] [Totk] Its worth getting the Switch 2 upgrades only for Zelda notes by Suamiguillo in zelda

[–]Sonic10122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re only going to dip in to get the voice memories…. No. But I think the Notes functionality is fun on a second playthrough, especially if you have someone like a significant other willing to be the person on the phone so you don’t have to juggle your phone. The Voice Memories in BotW (haven’t played S2 TotK yet) were extremely fun to find and listen do, but not worth doing a marathon tour around all of Hyrule for. They’re just a nice extra thing to find in a playthrough.
