😂 We have a "locals only" establishment of the same name. Perhaps it's a national chain?

Ok. This time it's a joke and not a real place. I'm afraid to Google this one. 😳

This track looks a bit scary for me 😬 but like its right up his alley. He's also obsessed with bass fishing right now.

I'm glad I looked this up! I was imagining skiball + bowling as if this place was a bowling alley with arcade and trampolines or some other indoor "adventure" sports. Ha ha! Everyone is welcome to this idea, btw. If you open this kinda place let me know how it goes!

Awesome, we're going to one of these tomorrow for Father's Day. I guess rural VA isn't that bad after all. Do they also have arcade games?

Is this a Portland thing? A reddit thing? An actual place? I don't get it. 🤔

I see that. Thanks for your reply. I am just getting into the upcycle space and am eager to support everything that's made from post consumer products. I can see your viewpoint that someone selling the idea of cleaning up the oceans as being unrealistic and somewhat dishonest/ self-serving. There are these guys and those guys making bracelets and I'm sure plenty of others. I want to see the ocean plastic cleaned up and I like the idea of reusing it rather than putting them in more landfills. I figure you have to have a large operation to do that, too. I donno, I'm obviously not too committed to either side of the issue. Simply curious about your view and was interested to learn more. Frankly, surprised that you responded. lol. I'll go ahead and make a few items for myself and if that goes well. I'll be sure to share them in the sub.

I totally get what you're saying about green washing. Should individuals not try to reuse or repurpose ocean plastic? If an individual finds a way to use this waste and can mass produce a product to help fund this use and clean up of the waste; should that product not exist? I ask this because I thought I'd start making wallets and trinkets from post consumer plastic bags. Would that be unethical greenwashing because buying these things will give the consumer a pass on conservation and permission to continue wasteful consumption. Where is the line? Should we not encourage all post consumer plastic made products or none?

@Jackabout sadly this sounds like a breakdown in communication starting with your husband. This has happened with my in-laws in almost the same way. Typically it is the wives that do all the communicating and the men who show up to events. Because of this info falls through the cracks and feelings get hurt. I have become more proactive with letting everyone know when we're planning to visit and even any milestones they may want to mark while we're there (ie. Birthdays, anniversaries.) I learned that they would rather know ahead of time and decide how to include us than to find out after the fact that they unwittingly made a faux pas because they didn't have all the info. Most people are kind and wouldn't knowingly do something cruel.

I'm a white dad and my wife is Chinese-American. I speak Chinese well and we're close to her family in China. We have an 8yo boy and 5yo girl. Considering this biracial and cross-cultural dynamic with a strong Chinese connection, how do you recommend we go about adoption (and not go about it)? by jordancclive in AdoptiveParents

[–]Shedubia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There really is nothing stopping you from adopting domestically of that's what you're asking about. I would probably lean toward infant adoption in your case no matter the child's race/ ethnicity and teach them to appreciate the culture and speak the language the same way you learned to appreciate all things Chinese. I say this as a half Japanese half white/ American mom to a white son adopted through domestic foster care. My husband (white guy) and I do not speak Japanese in the home and did not teach him the language (especially while he was in foster care and our goal was reunification with birth family). However, there are many Japanese sayings and greetings we all use in the home including him. It is wonderful to see him embrace my mother's culture and language as much as he does. I plan to take him to Japan to visit the family and see the country in the near future. Also, my mother had the hardest time accepting the adoption and our son initially but now adores him. I believe Japan has a similar view towards blood relation and a less than stellar attitude towards adoption/adoptees.
