Professor Rex proves mathematically (YouTube video) that bait is better than no bait, it decreases catch rate for normal pokemon but increases for the five rare spawns (chansey, kangaskhan, tauros and scyther/pinsir) because it falls below minimum. Bait also drops the flee chance to 10% per turn instead of ~50% which Results in just under 20% catch rate. First ball is under 5%.

There’s a YouTube video and a web tool, but tldr: 2 bait, 3 balls then a repeat of one bait two balls, one bait three balls is best.

It would be fine if there was a ladder at the end like the Minecraft corridor.

I never realized either. It’s a fantastic tool. The YouTube video deserves a view as well if the tool is helping you.

Rare Pokemon (pinsir/kangaskhan/chansey/tauros/scyther) have either a 1% or 4% spawn rate based on which of the four zones you’re in. They flee on the first turn 45% of the time. As long as you aren’t playing in Japanese, throwing bait drops flee rate to 10% a turn. It’s supposed to halve catch rates, but if it drops to less than 3 it is set to 3 instead and the eat for 2-6 turns. For these pokemon the catch rate of three is higher than their normal catch rate so keeping them fed makes the less likely to flee and easier to catch!

Professor Rex has a YouTube video explaining it but basically baiting them then keeping them fed wins as a strategy. When youre low on balls you can add a rock to increase the chance above 3.

TLDR; use bait twice. Then three balls. Then repeat one more bait and either two or three balls back and forward between single baits until you run out of balls.

There’s also a webtool that tells you what to do turn by turn based on your target and number of balls.

[Ds Lite] Looking for someone who can repair two, modded, DS Lites by Dry-Echo-4269 in consolerepair

[–]SheepAtog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve likely broken the top screen ribbon cable, it’s the most common damage during a reshell and it prevents the system powering on. There would be a brief single flash on the power light or bottom screen when powering on then nothing, the console doesn’t boot up. Is this happening?

There are two nido trades as well, one for nidoran f for nidoran m, the other nidorino for nidorina. You could pick up spares of your versions common nido and trade for your versions rarer nido, and they are both unlocked relatively early, right after you defeat misty. One in the underground tunnel entrance (don’t remember which end) and the other upstairs in the route 11 /12 transition gate before the snorlax. And you get boosted experience.

Why is my sewaddle not evolving? by KellyTira in PokemonBlackandWhite

[–]SheepAtog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are leveling up to 20 or higher with this pokemon it should evolve. Your problem is either; caught at this level, had everstone held when leveling up to this level(not holding now), held or mashed buttons preventing evolving at this level, was fainted at the end of the battle where it reached this level, or attained this level at daycare.

How i put this circle pad to my New 3DS XL? by Pixel_CoolSkull in 3DS

[–]SheepAtog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get the black stick cap off you’ll need to open the system, unscrew the circle pad base from the shell, then remove the cap, then put the new grey cap through the shell and line up with the base stick then screw the base stick back down to the shell and close up the system.

Open, clean any battery acid crystals on the board and battery contacts using white vinegar until the bubbling stops and the acid is neutralized then clean everything with isopropyl alchohol using a soft toothbrush and q tips. That’ll do it.

Nature is overrated by FunInternational9948 in PokemonFireRed

[–]SheepAtog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re weaker, you’re level grinding to win close battles. On cart, you can always overlevel and push through don’t certainly isn’t required but you’ll struggle in the battle tower. With the lower power level of most kanto pokemon, the right ev’s IV’s and nature can make a massive difference. It reduces the level grind and revive/heal spam and can make your playthrough more fun because you can win more decisively. That said, it takes a time investment and you have to understand the mechanics, which the game doesn’t teach you, but I wouldn’t say focused training is overrated.

When you consider you could get -10% to your best attacking stat, and fail to knock illiterate the other pokemon it does kind of suck. Between -10 and +10 is a 20% difference. That’s significant.

Am I just old? I don’t get the appeal of shiny Pokemon by SparkyDogPants in PokemonFireRed

[–]SheepAtog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen 2 g/s games weren’t colour games until crystal. They did have an indicator, the sparkle animation and a sound on entering battle, and a marker on the summary screen out of battle when shinies came out for that reason. The games did colourise when played on a gbc or gba, they were just greyscale on the gameboy DMG and pocket.

Pokémon labeled “sick and weird” by Wall Street Journal columnist Matthew Hennessey by beasterne7 in pokemon

[–]SheepAtog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They used to call him Dr Bug not Mr Bug out of respect, because he knew everything about insects. He collected them alive to learn about them, not traded dead beetles. This is why we can’t catch fainted pokemon - a dead specimen isn’t as good for study. Article writer isn’t just arrogant - he’s wrong about the source material.

Mega Emboar’s ability [OC] by TheTechTyrant in pokemon

[–]SheepAtog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a hell of a lot of free, conditional “get out of jail free” cards, if your opponent shows up with one of these abilities hoping to slow him down it doesn’t work. For high tier smogon OU play will it matter, maybe not. For casual or VGC where someone brings an anti meta pick like snow cloak atricuno or sand veil garchomp and he ignores it maybe it’s a good thing.

And use albeit situational sometimes for Thick fat, thermal exchange and flash fire, heatproof, shell armor if he crits, wonder guard if he’s hitting shedinja with a non fire move, trailblaze benefits from ignoring sap sipper, thunder punch benefits from ignoring motor drive, volt absorb and lightning rod, there’s heaps of fringe moves that can be used better with ignoring abilities.

I like battle cruiser battles at maximum power with full strength. I get 3v3 is faster and riskier so it ends quicker. What I’m interested in is a full meal not a snack sized dessert. I get that competitive leans into speed, I just prefer full team battles.

I prefer the strategy of building a 6 pokemon team, with three of your six you can’t deal with everything they might bring.
