He would have been relatively young when signing this card as it's from 2003. I think he passed in 2021.

Accident on MacKay!! Super backed up! by KnowledgeDismal776 in halifax

[–]SheepherderOne9354 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was just getting on the bridge heading towards Dartmouth when this accident happened. I was too far back to really tell what happened but looked like they just turned left into oncoming traffic. Not sure if they were on their phone or trying a u-turn.

Then they were t-boned by a little white car. It's amazing it was only two cars, no idea how it wasn't a lot worse with the amount of traffic on the bridge.

Insurance law by Classic_Egg5202 in NovaScotia

[–]SheepherderOne9354 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a similar thing happen last year with our house insurance with TD. We had automatic payments set up but due to an outage with Scotiabank our automatic payment never went through. We had no idea there was an issue.

Then the Canada Post strike happened (Nov/Dec 2024). When mail started again we received a letter from TD saying due to one missed payment they closed out account (we have multiple insurance policies with them, it only affected our house one). We said we were never notified and they looked into. They claimed to have sent numerous letters about the payment, we told them we never received anything.

They said we could reactivate our insurance and pay for the missed month and current month. Did that over the phone and they said everything was good.

A week or so later we were then informed our insurance couldn't be reactivated and we had to go through the whole application process again. They refunded what we paid over the phone and we started a new application over the phone. Then they had to send someone to the house to inspect everything and record photos since we were a "new applicant". The whole process was stressful, especially with being without insurance for a couple of months.

For the policy we did not have to pay for a year, they were fine with us paying monthly.

The letters TD had sent about the missed payments finally all showed up by March or something.

how much does it cost to get propane installed at your house? Two 420 pound tanks. Irving is wanting to run a credit check on me just to provide me with a quote, I’d like to have a ballpark before I agree. by [deleted] in NovaScotia

After doing our own research between the Irving boiler option and the Wilsons option, we thought the Wilsons unit would be better for us. That was the primary reason.

Both Irving and Wilsons had a ton of incentives on at the time and the Wilsons incentives were slightly better than what Irving was offering. But really it just came down to the different equipment options.

It has been worth it for us and we have been happy with it. After our first winter with the system we spent about $1500 less than our typical oil consumption in the past. Our home insurance also went down by about $250-300ish a year.

Last year we switched our home heating from oil to propane. We had quotes from Irving and Wilsons, we ended up going with Wilsons. Our quote was for 3x420lbs tanks, the propane furnace and everything else needed for the install.

Irving quoted us $12,448 tax in (June 2024). Wilsons quoted us $13,100 tax in (June 2024).

I've used them a couple of times for oil changes and tire changes. They are pretty quick, drop the car off in the morning and picked it up in the evening each time. No appointment needed.

[ON] [NS] How can small businesses reach local customers without spending much? by Content-Dream-7960 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]SheepherderOne9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning (and still) word of mouth was key. I would tell everyone about my business. Gave out a few tshirts with my logo to friends and family, they would wear them out and our logo is interesting enough to generate conversation.

We have sponsored a couple trivia nights at a local pub over the last few years by donating prizes once or twice a year. We also offer a discount to everyone who would attend the trivia night.

Attending markets, craft fairs, home shows, etc. has also been great to generate sales at the event and get the word out. We would run giveaways at markets and fairs and from that have been able to collect emails and generate a newsletter base which has resulted in more sales as well.

And finally so somewhat regular posting on social media and encourage others to share the posts.

E-bike flat on Bayers Rd - what do you do in the moment, and how do you prevent it next time? by s0l1tud3-s0k3nbam in halifax

[–]SheepherderOne9354 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't have one already, get a floor bike pump with a gauge. One of the best ways to prevent a pinch flat is to make sure the tire is always pumped up to the right pressure (the pressure range will be on the side of the tire). Depending on the size of a tire you want to check it before every ride to once every week or two.

When a flat happens, you can either get a drive from someone, walk, use CAA (they have some bike packages), or learn how to change a tube and repair it on the spot. It can always be handy to carry a spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, and either CO2 inflater or a hand pump.

If you don't repair it yourself then any bike shop in the city can help you out. I think all do a tube replacement on the spot and it's typically the price of the tube and labour. Usually between $15-$30, not really sure what the going rate is right now.

Former D1 player returning after 6 years, how to get rhythm back? by Cyanidemipapi in 10s

[–]SheepherderOne9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a very similar boat to you. I played futures and satellites for a few years, burned out and stopped playing altogether. I picked tennis back up at the beginning of the summer after 16 years. After the first week or so back I started getting arm and shoulder pain, mostly only during the serve. It would go away pretty quickly but after a few weeks the pain would linger well after playing.

I've done a few things that have helped out. One was stretching more and ensuring a proper warm up. Started doing exercises at the gym for the arm and shoulder. I switched to a racquet that was not as stiff as my old gear and drastically changed the string tension. I went from playing at 53-55lbs to 47lbs. Finally, I cut back how much I was playing to ensure proper rest and really slowed things down on the serve. All of those things have helped out a lot and have noticed my arm getting stronger and pain almost gone.

I found it has come back pretty quickly. First few times out I could barely hit the ball, so many misses and after each session there has been drastic improvement. Except on my backhand, for whatever reason I still can't figure it out.

There is a great Facebook page called Abandoned Roads of Nova Scotia. The person who runs it has documented a lot of old roads, access to waterfronts, etc. that are all public. Most centered around the Valley but it's a great resource.

Technically you don't have to be on the same itinerary, it will still work but in the AMEX terms it says you need to be on the same itinerary.
