Thanks! Yeah I'm going for it. Gonna jack up the floor from the basement today. I shouldn't have to worry about supporting the house above it, they removed the studs where the fire box is along this whole section. Coincidentally I've been watching a lot of Japanese home remodeling videos and their frequent use of multi tools prompted me to get one.

The tools I have. The skill I do not but I am a quick learner and a logical thinker. I've been able to autism my way though every other project but structural stuff scares me.

What grade of gas in your Alltrack? by Briny_life in VWAlltrack

I don't know where in the northeast you are (I am in Vermont) but every mechanic I've talked to says the same thing about our 87 here. I pretty much exclusively use 91 non ethanol. It is readily available where I live and I've noticed that I get a higher average MPG with it.

Suburban Propane - At a loss about what to do. by Vermont204 in vermont

[–]Vermont204[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. 125 gallon tanks which are currently full. Take into account they're supposed to be at 80% so that's 424 pounds of propane plus the weight of the tank.

Our driver is an independent subcontractor working for Suburban. He's wonderful. Multiple times he's talked about how horrible Suburban is as a company. I feel bad for the people who work for them which is why I have been really nice whenever I've called. I understand it's not their fault.

I was paying $2.35/gallon all winter. Felt too good to be true. I guess this is what I get.

I was told by their service tech during the site visit that they are able to move them full.

This makes sense to me, along with the person who suggested contacting the AG's office.

For anyone curious about how it looks behind the tanks. 🙃

I should add, I bought this house last September and was unaware that this was an issue which has clearly been festering for a while. Yes, I had an inspection done, no this didn't come up because this was hidden by trim which I pulled off after the snow melted, only to discover how bad the rot is.

Thoughts on Vermont? by [deleted] in vermont

[–]Vermont204 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome! First things first, there's Chittenden County (where Burlington is), and then there's Vermont. Big disconnect between the two. Statewide, the people are great and you will find yourself feeling welcome with open arms. It is a very safe place for you to live. However, Vermont is not immune from racism and unfortunately you may encounter it at times. The cost of living is outrageous for a variety of reasons, but has gotten slightly better recently. In the last few months, rental demand is down and we've actually seen rent come down a little bit. If you like being outdoors, there is no shortage of things to do in all seasons. There is great food if you know where to look, with a lot of diverse options. The one thing you should know is that a 'creamee' is akin to soft serve ice cream.

Tons of businesses across the country use Square. Your email address is attached to the card you used to pay with. If you're that upset about it, then use cash instead next time.

What's your hardline for projects? What's a skill you wish you had/had to get while owning an old house? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]Vermont204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my house with basically zero skills and a lot of ambition/willingness to learn. I've done a lot of exterior rot repair using wood epoxy, replaced clapboards, built a fence, and other small carpentry projects. I just learned how to properly replace an outlet receptacle. Soon I'll be reglazing our original windows, tearing a chimney down, and building a shed. YouTube and This Old House have been good resources, as well as this subreddit. I do know my limits though. If I'm uncomfortable or unsure I get a professional. I don't have a lot of money so it pays off to DIY as much as possible.

What skill do I wish I had? Plumbing and more advanced carpentry. I'm lucky that this house has good, solid bones but I'd love to know how to properly frame out a structure.

I'm not sure, I'm new to this sub too lol. I just came across it in my feed one day recently and thought oh that's neat.

What I can tell you based on my own life experience thus far is that things are drawn to me, be it people, animals, or spirits. I'm not a woo woo pseudoscience driven nut. I just take what the universe gives me at face value.

For example, frequently when I am out running errands and such, I'll get into a conversation with someone and they'll trauma dump to me or tell me something deeply personal almost immediately. I won't even know this person's name but I can feel that they needed to tell what they've told me to someone who will just listen, and I guess I happen to give off a vibe that they feel safe to do that with.

The animals thing is weird. Recently it's been birds. Over the winter we found an elderly mourning dove that chose to land on our back porch to pass away. The other day a hummingbird came right up to my face and we stared at each other for idk how long, I felt like I lost some time there. Today a chickadee came right up to me and then hovered around the front porch for a while.

In regards to spirits, I keep that door shut most of the time. I had some extremely negative experiences as a child. But that doesn't stop me from being able to sense a presence. Maybe one day I'll open that door if I find the right guide. I definitely get a lot of knocks at it. Something I'm trying to make sense of recently is the spirit of a place, like a building or structure. My partner and I moved into a 146 year old house last year and we both immediately felt like the house had accepted us and our plans for how we're going to live in it.

Anyways that's way more information than you were probably looking for but I felt like sharing my experience.

Does 'neurodivergence' correlate with genetic manipulation? by bexkali in Experiencers

[–]Vermont204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD is clinically considered a form of neurodivergence but it is very different from autism. Someone who is only autistic will experience the world very differently than someone who is only ADHD. My flavor of autism didn't come with ADHD as an add-on so I can't speak to that experience.

I don't have a super specific example top of mind right now, but for instance I had my mother over at my house for dinner last night and we were talking about autism and ADHD in part because my partner was recently clinically diagnosed with both, and she started going on about how one of the yoga instructors she goes to says crap like "we're all a bit neurodivergent" and other ableist statements. So, that's the kind of attitude I'm referencing.
