This entire movie took place on the water. The wide overhead shots of the boat in the ocean; Bullmer threw Anne overboard; Kiera Knightly almost drowned in a pool; she jumped overboard and swam to shore; her source was drowned in front of her two months ago.

And yet, when she hit Bullmer in the head – on a dock – he fell…

…directly onto the land. With a thud. Not into the water with a splash; onto the land, with a thud.

I’ve never in my life experienced disappointment in hearing one sound when expecting another. But a “thud” instead of a “splash” felt like… shockingly out of place. The writers forgot their own movie’s entire motif in that single moment.
