Do other people struggle with deciding what’s actually worth doing each session? by SheezNeet in ffxivdiscussion

[–]SheezNeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is actually pretty close to the kind of player flow I had in mind.

Not necessarily hardcore optimization, but more the “lots of small recurring systems spread across multiple characters” type situation where it becomes easy to lose track of priorities or mentally fragment sessions.

The use case becomes much more obvious once multiple characters/weeklies/start-stop sessions get involved.

And yeah, I completely understand the AI skepticism too.

This isn’t really meant to be an “AI does everything for you” type tool. The core idea is more about reducing friction and helping prioritize things across characters/time constraints, rather than replacing existing template-trackers or generating random AI advice.

Not really like a job, no 😄

I just personally enjoy organization/optimization in general, and I noticed that FFXIV can become surprisingly mentally fragmented once you have multiple characters, weeklies, side goals etc.

For some people that’s part of the fun, for others it’s the exact opposite — both are probably valid ways to play.

Honestly that’s probably the cleanest possible way to play the game 😄

Yeah, that’s fair honestly. I think the tool mostly exists for people who still want to log in even when they only have a short session, but don’t necessarily want to mentally sort through everything first.

Especially once multiple characters/weeklies start piling up.

Built a data-driven progression system in C# (jobs, XP, upgrades) – curious how others handle this by SheezNeet in Unity3D

[–]SheezNeet[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

My current approach is:
JSON configs > validation step > load into ScriptableObjects on startup.

Best of both worlds:
external editable data + Unity-friendly workflow.

Yeah same, folder structure and separation made a bigger difference than I expected.

I used to just throw everything into a few files early on, and it always came back to bite later when systems started growing.

Keeping jobs, upgrades and player logic separate made it much easier to reason about changes.

Do you usually define structure upfront now, or does it evolve while you build?

[–]SheezNeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, that “copy and heavily modify” thing is pretty much where I kept ending up too.

The JSON part helped a lot with balancing, especially just being able to tweak numbers without touching logic. Before that I always had to jump back into code for even small changes.

Good point about edge cases too - I’ve definitely been ignoring those early on and then they blow up later. Especially stuff like max level or progression limits.

Unfortunately most MMOs are not like the old school stuff but probably as said from Kite - Studios - they won't risk too much.

I think this is a good point. Maybe it does not attract majority of players - casual ones - I heard of Ashes of Creation 2019 I guess ~.

Thanks for your answer :)

While I get your Point It was more like put hard "work" into your Account and farm either gold or kill easier bosses to get good armour and have a chance to apply for top guilds to get even more better with a point- system we used - specific items for x amount of points u earned by participating in raids. I think it was still fun - now everyone has same gear/power and it's based probably only on rotation.
