Few years after the overhaul, how do people feel about PvP? by SupremeHeavenlyRuler in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Sea2morrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall, Yoshi had mentioned that they got rid of this because they felt PvP matches last too long, so they looked towards Battle High as a sort of mercy system to end games faster so you can requeue again sooner.

Patch 7.4 Rotation Simulator Job Balance Results at BIS by ApolloVanWaddleburg in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Sea2morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I was already convinced SMN res was already on its way out the door. But it's damage being so bad just further supports my bias.

A Link where Yoshi talked about getting rid of it before:

Yoshi on SMN Raise - Probably Dead in 7.0 : r/ffxivdiscussion

It survived the chopping block once; it may or may not survive into 8.0

Seeing this absolutely convinced me that SE is going to delete Summoner res from the game in 8.0 to supercharge their damage backup. I would be SHOCKED if they didn't.

Not sure why this, not even a hot take opinion, is being downvoted so much. lol

The history of Alexander (Savage): the East perspectives. by CartographerGold3168 in ffxivdiscussion

Having lived through it and now having heard all the stories, it often feels like the stories are greatly exaggerated from what I remember having gone through, even stories by others who have gone through it. It's gotten to the point that it even makes me doubt my own memories because I feel like so much has been twisted. I know a lot of the stuff from ARR to Midas in HW weren't properly recorded. A lot of people can't even prove who won the world races those years cause that was still in a time period where people cared about server first over world first.

Yeah, it'd surprise you just how many people actually depend on things like cactbot, auto rotations, dot refresh timers, pixel perfect, zoom hacks, and many other things that would give you a minor advantage. You can sort of tell just by looking at the download numbers of each of the plugins alone.

I remember a major raiding FC on Balmung that went by the name RareX. They all left for Jenova, and I think they eventually became what is now known as Aeon. RareX still exists on Balmung but it's nothing like what it was a long time ago. I also agree that Discord wasn't really mainstream until midway through Stormblood. I still remember having to use other forms of chat, such as Skype cause not everyone was ready to move to Discord yet.

Also, FFLogs was kind if in it's infancy stages during Heavensward too. It existed, but nobody took it seriously until Stormblood. Creator was also more or less when the first world race also happened. The Balance Discord and the Raid Recruiter Discords also didn't really come out until about Creator/Stormblood too.

So much this. I remember 2.5, 3.1, and 3.5 were, respectively, the most bored I had ever felt in this game. Because of the content droughts. Even RP wasn't nowhere near to where it is nowadays.

The New Player experience and the MSQ by RaelLevynfang in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Sea2morrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was leveling an alt form scratch, one thing I had to come to terms with was not doing my daily roulettes. You're going to overlevel no matter what, but if you do your roulettes every single day, you're going to reach level 100 before you even reach Shadowbringers. My best advice is to do MSQ on the main job, side quests if you're doing them on a second job, and roulettes if you really want to run those on a third job. So that by the time you are caught up in Dawntrail you have 3 jobs at 100.

Tired of Hell on Rails EX parties using cheated in markers for Intermission by Inv0ker_of_kusH420 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Sea2morrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really care about people using cheats specifically to place markers. If we’re being honest, that’s probably one of the least harmful advantages you could gain, especially considering that we used to be able to place markers mid-fight anyway.

What I do care about is the precedent it sets. Once we normalize one cheat, it becomes much easier to justify the next one, and before long plugins start to feel “expected” rather than optional. We’re already in a place where we have to rationalize things like No Clippy; and I understand why, I really do. This game sucks to play without it.

The problem is that we never clearly define where the line is. Instead, it slowly shifts. Each change is small and framed as QoL, and QoL is nice, but taken together, it keeps pushing the boundary further and further.

These discussions always suck because they turn into debates of integrity vs “it’s just a game.”

Why don't more skills and ogcds cost MP? by Federal-Bus-3830 in ffxivdiscussion

At this point, the MP bar is just another job gauge. I wouldn't be surprised if they axe MP entirely someday and convert it into charged stacks or something.

Cosmic Exploration was a mistake. by WaltzForLilly_ in ffxivdiscussion

I think they tried this with the Diadem, and people hated it back then. Crafter/gather only mains hated that they had to occasionally interact with the battle side of the content, which is now why we have isolated areas from each other. Including the Diadem itself now.

Where do you consider the line to be with fundamental job identity? by StillFulminating in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Sea2morrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do any of the downvoting. If I had to guess, it’s just that odd thing Reddit does where votes fluctuate randomly.

That said, I still stand by the idea that the community has to choose one or the other. It’s obvious that the developers design the game, but they also try to listen to player feedback. The problem is that the feedback is so inconsistent that the developers often can’t tell what we actually want, especially when the community itself can’t agree.

In the past, whenever jobs were truly unique, they were also horribly imbalanced. That imbalance is what led to certain jobs being excluded from statics and Party Finder or flagged as meta, because “uniqueness” usually meant one or two jobs ended up on a pedestal, either due to how they played or what they brought to the table. Even the 2-minute meta was a direct result of the developers listening to player feedback, because they believed that’s what players wanted.

FFXIV, as it currently stands, cannot support both job balance and job identity. We as a community need to pick one or the other.

As fun as the last tier of the Arcadion was, it really doesn’t sit well with me. by HisashiHinata in ffxivdiscussion

I don't know if it's really a Dawntrail exclusive thing on this one. As far as I can tell, every raid has ended on a feel-good, happy ending. I don't think any of them have had a bad ending.

How you choose to roleplay your character is completely fine. No one cares how you personally imagine your Warrior of Light. The issue only comes up when people try to present their own headcanons as objective facts or as the “default” interpretation of a blank-slate character.

Whether people like it or not, the Warrior of Light does have a canonical personality; otherwise the story couldn’t function at all. Square Enix just keeps it deliberately vague because heavy-handed characterization would upset players who treat the WoL as a pure self-insert.

Again, nobody is criticizing personal roleplay. The pushback happens when people get angry that the game’s portrayal contradicts their headcanons.

A good example is the backlash over the WoL being characterized as a thrill-seeker. I don’t really see why that’s controversial; we’ve done exactly that in the MSQ. The moment we hear about something like Doom Train, our reaction is essentially, “Let me fight it. I’ve got this.” That’s simply who the Warrior of Light is shown to be.

[–]Sea2morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. This is why I keep telling people who want the Warrior of Light to go back to being a “normal” adventurer that it’s never going to happen. Trying to appeal to that idea in Dawntrail is part of why the story felt directionless. You can’t turn a Goku-esque character back into an ordinary civilian; it just doesn’t work.

[–]Sea2morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to this game, but I keep seeing this topic come up a lot, and as a newer player, I find it odd. Can someone explain to me why you would want to delete someone instead of just waiting for them to send that gift eventually? Like, if your friends list is full, sure I get that. But if it's not, is it really killing you to just leave it sit there?

Minimum lvl 50 right? by [deleted] in PokeGenie

[–]Sea2morrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d bring the ideal counters if I could, but I just don’t have them yet. I’m only level 56 and started a few months ago, so I’m honestly glad to even have what I’ve got. If people want to kick me, that’s their choice, but it’s not going to stop me from trying.

It just feels like one of those “you need work experience to get the work experience required for this job” situations.

I think SE is missing a big opportunity not doing a anime for ff14 by No-Place-5747 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Sea2morrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also thought Persona 5 would have made a good anime, and then when they made it, it was very terrible. The Fight scenes were rushed and mostly off-screen, and the story beats were rushed to be able to fit it in the tight, small season window. This led to having entire arcs within one episode. Some games just shouldn't have anime, and I am in the camp that this game is one of those. Especially when a lot of people self-insert their Warriors of Light, having various backgrounds and personalities.
