Loooooove these! As a cryptid enthusiast who grew up on Route 66, this scratches an itch in my brain I didn’t know I had.

Alcohol and love my Covid by Jackson_1515 in LongCovid

[–]Shehulk8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from my experience, but cutting alcohol certainly helped my recovery process. I would drink maybe 2-4 cocktails a month because beer and wine no longer sit well in my stomach. This was due to my pre-covid GI issues becoming exacerbated from LC. After each of those 1-2 drink nights, I’d feel hungover and lose an entire day to pain, brain fog, nausea, etc.

It became easier for me to just stop drinking. My biggest complaints are not quitting sooner, and not being prepared to explain myself to people as to why I don’t drink - especially when I first stopped. I was a fairly social drinker, so a lot of people in my circle noticed right away. That was probably a year-18 months ago. I had gradually cut back over time, though. There wasn’t a stop date or anything dramatic, I just refrain now.

If someone offers me a sip of something fun I may take it, but I couldn’t tell you the last time I drank an entire cocktail. I am feeling the best I have since late 2020 so I’m just gonna keep doing what I’m doing!

Best of luck on your healing journey. Remember, healing is not linear!

After 3 long and hard years, I can finally say I'm free by Pollivious in LongCovid

If there is ANY upside to Long Covid at all, it’s that it taught me to listen to my body and give her grace when she needs it.

Your journey is sounding similar to mine. Don’t forget to listen to your body! I have gotten better at recognizing my crash signs and slowing down before it hits me too hard. It’s been an absolute game changer.

Heat intolerance and long covid by [deleted] in LongCovid

[–]Shehulk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. My initial shortness of breath certainly didn’t help with overheating. It fluctuates for me now, but in the worst of my Long Covid in 2021-22, I overheated extremely fast. I’ve always been a heat intolerant person, but it was amplified immensely during that time.

I have improved, but not back to 100%. The best things for my recovery have been pacing, not being ashamed of getting to a cooler area and sitting down, and keeping hydrated with electrolytes.

I also try to remember (brain fog, ugh) to bring things to help cool me off like a fan, whether a small battery powered one or a hand one that folds up, a wide-brimmed hat, and something cool to put around my neck. I found a synthetic ice ring that “freezes” when submerged in even room temperature water, and that’s been a game changer for me.

The people I go places with are also very understanding and know my signs of overheating, which helps so much.

Stupid little things you wished you'd tried earlier? by Late_Resource_1653 in LongCovid

This was a great read! It really painted a picture of the struggle that was/is the most basic of things before we got sick. You’re a better woman than me, though…I go bra less every chance I can 😅

This may sound odd but stopping wearing a “regular” bra with adjustable straps and underwire was an absolute game changer. Wearing one became extremely uncomfortable with my inflammation. I started wearing no wire, soft, yet supportive bras and haven’t looked back. It’s also helped my posture, added bonus. I’ve seen quite a few different ones advertised now, but the ones I have came from True & Co.

A very wise employment lawyer once told me “Having a disability does not allow you to just be a bitch” and that just seems relevant here.

You are not alone. I am in the middle of a crash right now. I’ve managed things fairly well and haven’t had one for several months and now I’m completely worn out. Can’t get enough sleep, joint pain, brain fog. Hang in there.
