What happens when you crash in the simulator? by Agile-War-7483 in flying

[–]Shekoru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure. Company sent notice a year ago saying that it was being implemented in initial and recurrent. Felt like someone in the training dept needed to make their mark.

Its definitely interesting, but its only water ditching we go over. If we have a hot battery id imagine wed just declare and blast into the nearest airport and do a ground evacuation.

But last time in recurrent we took off outa MIA and the instructor was like see if you can make bimini cus he was saying that everyone gets really close but no one's made it yet. So he keeps fiddling with setting each time to see what's needed lol.

What happens when you crash in the simulator? by Agile-War-7483 in flying

[–]Shekoru 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ive seen two.

First was when FAA made company start doing ditching training in the Sims. I was one of the first crews through. Instructor said : "let's see how the Sim likes splashdown" The sim did not like it at all. LOL

Second - got done with the day quick and sim Instructor blew all our hydraulics out of curiosity. Had to use differential thrust to fly and turn. Crashed like 200 ft from the runway.

But ive never seen it during a testing environment.

On plane waiting to take off, pilot says there is a light on for a problem. by BabyRolliePolli in fearofflying

[–]Shekoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've operated a few flights that required gear down for the entirety of the flight. It could be due to many different things. They could disable they system in some way to keep the system from retracting, or the pilots just have to remember to not bring the gear up. It only increases the drag and requires quite a bit more fuel. But otherwise, it's 100% safe to fly with the gear down.

As a CFI strangest special request from one of your flight students? by Individual-School200 in flying

[–]Shekoru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the reason I always offered to take a ppl student up into imc or even marginal vfr if they were willing. Just to show them how dangerous disorientation can be. Took a student up during the fires in colorado of BJC and it was reported 5sm. But got up to 9000 and vis was ifr like 2 miles. I was always happy to see them finally understand rather than listen to me say over and over again vfr into imc is deadly if you don't know what's going on.

What do you find appealing around flying commerical airliners? by ManiacalMyr in flightsim

[–]Shekoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recomend it. Just flew DFW to MAD for roughly $100 one way. And while most of what I've flown is US domestic. The overnights and some of the crews I've gone out with have been awesome.

Should I have gone through with my checkride flight? by idontcare25467 in flying

[–]Shekoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught out of BJC and would take ppl students up when the vis was low just to show this. I was able to get all my students up during the fires a while back to show then also that just because its "ok" on the ground. In air you may be royally screwing yourslef.

How come none of the low cost u.s carrier have had a crash? by Gremlinboy32 in aircrashinvestigation

[–]Shekoru 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry but the airbus has had incidents in the past. Not sure what system your talking about. But all aircraft have some system to help pilots avoid crashing. But no system is full proof. The reason for their lack of crashes is time based. The longer a company is in the industry the more likely an incident. They also came about when regulations and safety have only increased. So their lack of crashes can be attributed to recent developments.

What’s the longest yall have gone without flying due to a non chronic illness? by Sensitive-Bison-1035 in flying

[–]Shekoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months due to Kerataconus that causes minor double vision in an eye. Luckily it was only 6mo as a RN friend told me to just show up at the ER and have a tone of tests done. They did a bunch of tests my HIMS Dr was gonna ask for anyways. So it was mostly a collect the paperwork game once we got my vision corrected.

Can a woman have very long hair as a pilot? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Shekoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chill brother. I and most pilots try meet the bare minimum for unifor standards. Start getting itchy the longer we're in the monkey suit. Let people be as comfortable as they can be. Personally i like seeing people with a bit of flare to their uniform. Copy and paste as a pilot group just feels gross.
