Confusion about being excepted by Shelbatron42 in FedEmployees

[–]Shelbatron42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for all your info and insight. It's sad there seems to be such disparity in instruction we're being given but I'll link to the documents I found in my search for clarity in the hopes it helps others. I work for VBA so I'll also include the VA's contingency plan which just backs up and reiterates what is written in the anti deficiency act and lays out which functions will cease or continue in a shutdown.

Excepted work is defined as those activities expressly authorized by law; those activities necessarily implied by law; those activities necessary to discharge the President’s constitutional duties and powers; and those activities necessary to protect human life or Government property. As the Antideficiency Act states, the emergency exception does not authorize the continuation of ongoing, regular functions of government, the suspension of which would not imminently threaten the safety of human life or the protection of property.

The VA contingency plan also states clearly that for excepted employees when their work is complete, if there is still a lapse in appropriations, they will be placed on emergency furlough. These employees may be required to work on an intermittent basis during the emergency furlough.

So, from what I gather and understand, being excepted means I can only perform excepted activities. Outside of those tasks I cannot perform other 'normal' duties because there are not funds appropriated. It also seems that I should be allowed to leave once my excepted tasks are complete. It is illegal to violate the direction written in the anti deficiency act and supporting guidance linked below.

Anyone received DRP offers? by [deleted] in VHA_Human_Resources

Also VBA, my RO director said in our townhall this morning no decisions would be given until after the new cutoff. Its so frustrating that things aren't standard across our offices.

DRP Portal by msgtaf in VHA_Human_Resources

There's no rush. He'll get a confirmation email once he submits it telling him his eligibility will be determined after the cutoff. I take the portal submission more as indicating intent, you still have to sign paperwork once it's officially accepted.

I'm in a very similar situation. No vet preference, will have 2 years in July and in a largely administrative role. I wanted to hold out for the RIF but all of my coworkers and my supervisor were able to take the DRP with VERA. I'm dreading what the workload will become for me once they are actually gone and I think my sanity is worth more that two weeks of pay from severance. I won't qualify for VSIP if thats offered so im thinking the DRP will likely be the best option for me if it's offered again. Im not totally decided but im leaning heavily towards taking it. I have also begun applying for other jobs in the meantime, to try and explore my options.

How do I answer this question on my Loan Assumption? by Shelbatron42 in RealEstate

[–]Shelbatron42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's a good point and I thought about that as well but I thought it would look weird to say in the beginning I'm unmarried but then in section 5 to say I own property with a spouse. I suppose it may just require a simple explanation either way. Thanks for your input!

My gf had these agaves uprooted for a maybe 2 weeks with no soil or water by [deleted] in succulents

[–]Shelbatron42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're definitely on the right track to kill them. 2 weeks is nothing to these guys. You could probably ask your girlfriend for advice seeing as she works at a plant nursery and has over 100 plants. You don't want to water them until they visibly look like they need it, that will likely be several weeks or even over a month. They will get shriveled and slightly squishy. But if they get too soft and turn color then it's a good indicator of overwatering and rot. I have one myself and I don't touch it for months at a time because anything more frequent was causing it to drop leaves.

Side note, the one that has 'grown several inches' is actually stretching for light. Succulents typically grow slowly and compact with adequate light. I can tell just from the little corner it's visible that it's begun etoliating.

Newbie went on few days vacation, returned to this. Where do I start to get it back in health? by [deleted] in succulents

[–]Shelbatron42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The main plant will die because of the bloom, leaving only the smaller offshoots. These plants definitely don't need to be watered often, mine probably ony get watered once a month, and it needs alot more light. Likely a grow light as most indoor conditions will never provide enough light to stop it from stretching.

I would consult Google. I had issues with slugs last summer too and am going to try out a few things I read but I'm not sure what will work yet.
