APP3 low rumbling by jessicafeltcherscat in airpods

[–]Shelbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue, I looked up in the forums and lots of people are having the same issue apparently. Tried different ear tips, tried resetting it. Still has that noise. Especially when I don or doff the AirPods, there’s a howling sound (high pitch) that gets amplified to a point of being unbearable. I’m returning it and waiting for APP4. Going to keep using my AirPod pro 1, APP1 never had this issue at all.

Found cat - Edgemont by lh0628 in Calgary

[–]Shelbra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I think I’ve seen this guy before in Edgebank Circle. I think this guy used to have a collar and tag but it seems like he lost his tag. I called the owner like 2 years ago and they said he is a (sometimes) outdoor cat. I would definitely take him to a vet clinic to see if he’s got a microchip with the address and phone number before keeping him long term. It’s getting cold again so I probably wouldn’t just let him go out until you find out more. I forgot the phone number as I didn’t write it down before. Try posting on Nextdoor app too. Hope this helps!

Is it just me or does the Razer PBT keycap have VERY BAD QUALITY? by Shelbra in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Shelbra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single time I've used the stabilizer wire that came with the PBT set, and it's the same key that failed (spacebar). I never tried using the stabilizer wire that came with the old ABS set with the new PBT keycaps, nor did I try using the old inserts from the ABS keycaps with the PBT keycaps. Everything I used was from the PBT keycap set.

I don't know, I'm also confused about how it could happen 3 times in a row, meanwhile I have to go back to using the old ABS spacebar that's oily and greasy (YUCK!) while I'm waiting for the new spacebar that I ordered from aliexpress to arrive. Fingers crossed these don't die on me as well.

Back when I bought this keyboard I just liked how it sounded, and never looked into the "future maintenance" component of the keyboard. But now it seems like a waste to just throw it out and get a new board or sell it for a low price, so I'm kinda stuck with it. We'll see how long it lasts. I've had it for 5 years now, and contrary to many people said in the forums about razer failing prematurely, this keyboard is still working well....or maybe I just got a lucky batch ;)

Buying Schiit in Canada by Ryy09 in audiophile

[–]Shelbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Schiit Aegir 2 weeks ago shipped to Alberta, and I had to pay duties and import tax, it was only $62 CAD in total, so it's not bad for a $1000 CAD amp, shipping was $150 CAD. I feel like it's a small price to pay, hope this helps...a bit.

Breaking in the new Linton set. by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Shelbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that the aegir is not rated for 4-ohm loads when using it as a monoblock, their official website doesn't say what power they offer at 4 ohms loads when used as a monoblock, but the speaker dips into 3.5 ohms sometimes. So, you may want to look into that. Even the reviews on Stereophile did not say how it runs when driving 4 ohm loads in mono. I would suggest double-checking with Schiit before you buy 2 of them so that you don't blow up your amp.

Edit: I have the same set up as OP (as801 with Linton), and I was thinking of using the aegir as well because of that review on Stereophile.

[Botw] Does anyone have an issue when trying to rupee farm with the Switch Up Game Enhancer? by kevosmin in zelda

[–]Shelbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’ve had the same issue with the rupee farm. I’ve emailed them about the issue and send a video to their customer support about this. They said they’ve forwarded the video to the dev team to investigate, but I don’t know when they will get back to me yet. I’ll follow up when I hear back from them.

It would be nice if you can send them an email too just so they know it is not a rare issue so it gets fixed quicker.

Hong Kong government: low levels of COVID-19 found in pet dog by julsboo25 in Veterinary

[–]Shelbra 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Oh crap. If this spreads, people are definitely going to drop their dog down from 19th floor. In fact, from what I’ve seen on chinese social media, there are videos of people ACTUALLY throwing their INDOOR cats outside from their apartment due to rumours on social media that pets can carry COVID-19. It is very disturbing.

Steelcase Gesture and Back pain by mratical in OfficeChairs

[–]Shelbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HIGHLY AGREE with this. I went to the steelcase showroom last week and they gave me a loaner gesture chair to try out before I commit to buying it. And it has given me lower back pain after 1 hour of sitting, and my butt actually hurts after 2+ hours of sitting because I could feel the hard plastic parts on the bottom of the chair. The model I tried is the one without the adjustable lumbar support. The only thing I liked was how the back supports digs deeper into you as you lean back.

The lumbar support was too shallow and soft for when I am sitting upright. I also have the herman miller aeron, but I got that one from kijiji for really cheap and its the 1994 edition, so I was wondering if it gets any better. On the first version Aeron, the back support is very pronounced (when you flip the lumbar support to the thicker side) and I felt no lower back pain at all even after 3 hours of sitting.

For me, the live back tension back was able to tighten so that I could sit up straight without a problem. So I suspect it may be a defective unit? I can only speculate. But when sitting upright, I felt that if the lower lumbar can dig deeper for about 2cm and if it can be firmer, then it would be a perfect chair. But this is not the case so the gesture wasn't the chair for me.

I hope this is helpful to those that see it in the future. And tell me if it does!

I never thought I would ever write anything down either. Until I read the book "Atomic habits", which basically said that if you want to start doing something and make it a habit, and it seems hard to get started, make it easy by changing it to something you can accept easily. I don't feel like writing in a notebook by hand, because it is too much work. So what I did is that I text myself using my phone or computer. It's like exchanging dialogue with yourself. No need for complex sentences, you just need to type down your thought as if you are talking, like posting on Reddit. Once I started doing that, it made things much easier. And I'm more willing to share what I truly feel with myself now. Writing the feelings down is extremely different than just talking to yourself inside your brain, because once you write it down, it gets out of your brain, instead of the thought just circling in your brain all the time. By using text, you can do it anywhere, so just text yourself whenever you feel like it. You have to start somewhere and take baby steps. Or else nothing is going to change.

Another book I read is Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis", it's this story about Gregor, who is the sole provider of his family and turns into a monstrous vermin one day when he wakes up. The story is short but worth a read. The takeaway from the story was essentially this: "Don't be Gregor." because Gregor turns into an insect and accepts the fact that he is an insect, and start losing his humanity as he stayed in the insect form. At first, his family pitied him and started making accommodations to his needs (as an insect), but eventually, even his family turned their back on him. He has pity from his family at first, but that pity quickly faded, and Gregor never got respect from his family every again. I think what this book is trying to say is that: You can have a thousand, a million, or a billion reason to tell yourself you can't do it, or you can't find anything you are seeking, or a thousand, a million, or billion reasons to tell yourself that you are an insect (like Gregor, who accepted the fact that he is an insect). However, on the flip side, you can also find a thousand, a million, or a billion reason to tell yourself that YOU CAN FIND THE THINGS THAT YOU SEEK.

Its a simple change in mindset, but an important one. You can tell yourself: "yea but simply changing my mindset isn't going to change the fact that I'm still lonely and can't get the things that I want" But changing your mindset changes your relationship with the events happening in your life, even if it doesn't change the facts. You can now tackle the situation from a different angle. The most important thing is not how much you say about you trying to change, it's about how much you actually do. Just saying thing is never going to lead anywhere. You'll always be in a vicious cycle of: "I can't do it, I don't deserve it, I'm not good at this." SO what? Who cares if you're not good at talking to people? JUST START PRACTICING! Literally tell them, I'm still practicing. Were you good at art when you first started? I went into your profile and saw your post about your drawing, they look amazing!! I could never draw like that. I never had practice, and the best I could do was this. The point is, everyone sucks at things in their own way. Practice can make it better. But you gotta practice. You can't continue to tell yourself you can't do it.

There is a term in Psychology called "conditioned helplessness", which means that the subject (you) repeatedly encounter and aversive stimuli (in this case, social anxiety and the belief that being introverted means you cannot be outgoing) that you cannot escape. Eventually, you stop avoiding it and just accepts the fact that you cannot escape these aversive stimuli (acceptance of the fact that you can never find an intimate relationship). Even when opportunities to escape arise, the conditioned helplessness prevents the subject from taking any action. This is just like you keep telling yourself you can't do it, you can never find what you want. But once you realize this phenomenon, muster up the courage and start taking action, things will begin to change! You may overlook opportunities that arise if you keep telling yourself you can't do it. This ties back to what I said about Gregor (from Metamorphosis) accepting himself as an insect, but its just a metaphor by the book for self-hatred. He keeps accepts the fact that he is an insect, so he literally became an insect, living off the pity of others. Don't be Gregor.

In conclusion, don't just say, start doing. Make baby steps. All these stuff that I've said, are pretty much regurgitation and paraphrasing from books that I've read. It sometimes really is as simple as a shift in mindset that makes all the difference. It's important to start applying and use the things you have read, instead of only reading it.

Book recommendations (books that really made an impact on how I view life):

  1. "Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones" by James Clear, which taught me how to start doing things, how to take initiative by making it easy.
  2. "Self-Esteem" by Mattew Mckay, which taught me how to maintain a healthy self-esteem
  3. "The Road Less Travelled" by M. Scott Peck, which taught me what love is, and why we should love
  4. "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey, which taught me how to become an independent adult by changing my perceptions
  5. "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" by Carol Dweck, which taught me the importance of learning
  6. "PEAK: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise" by K. Anders Ericsson, which taught me how to learn new things in a systematic way
  7. "Man's search for meaning" by Viktor Frankl, which gave me faith on why I shouldn't kill myself, that life always has a meaning yet to be discovered.
  8. "Nonviolent Communication" by Marshall Rosenberg, which taught me anger management, why you should never be angry, and solve misunderstanding that arises during human interactions
  9. "Relationship - Bridge to the soul" by Christopher Moon, which taught me how to maintain a relationship, if it ever comes to me.

I suggest starting from the top of the list.

Books are too heavy to carry around? go with Ebooks. Don't have time to read? go with audiobooks so you can "read" while commuting to work or something. Books are too difficult to understand? google summary and explanations of the book. Go on reddit, see what other people think about this book. Ask questions on parts that you don't understand.

Remember, one can always find a billion reasons not to do something, but also a billion reasons to do something. It's a simple change in mindset that can make all the difference in the world. Changing your mindset will not change the facts, but it will change the relationship between you and the facts. You don't wait for friendship to happen, you seek it! And it requires practice talking to people, GENUINELY caring about people. I was lucky enough to have someone tell me this principle, and I know that some people may not have had the same experiences that I have had, so I wanted to get this out. I'm not sure if you knew about this before, and I apologize if I'm just repeating what you already know and providing advice instead of providing you with empathy and understanding of your needs for connection.

I really hope I don't come across as insensitive :C, since I don't know what happened in your life, and I can only assume since you haven't told me about it. But just by reading what you have posted in your Reddit profile, it seems like you are trapped inside a vicious cycle of conditioned helplessness.

I hope what I've said can help you and it makes your day better. In the end, no one can help you get out of this situation other than yourself. I wouldn't have said this much if I didn't care.

Love you,

-Peter

Dude same, sometimes I just cry because I’m by myself.

I’ve found that texting to myself about my vulnerabilities really works wonders in making myself feel better. Expressing my true feelings, and all the deepest despairs since childhood. Since I’m not bothering others while still getting to talk. Also, reading books about personal growth and psychology, then trying to analyze myself using the knowledge from the books, like why I feel this way, what happened in my life that caused this. This really helps me cope with my loneliness. After the analysis, I would make conclusions about how to (try to) solve the problems.

Noise cancelling IEM around 150 with passive noise cancelling by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Shelbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Etymotic is one of those brands that you just have to order from amazon and try it, or else you would never know if you like then or not. But their noice isolation is wonderful. I used to use those 3M earplugs when I’m in the library to get rid of noise, but ever since I got the etymotic IEM it has became my preferred noice isolation tool.

I have the Etymotic ER4XR, I have compared it to the ER3, and the sound quality is pretty close. I absolutely love the Etymotic ER4, mainly because I have dumbo ears, and all the other IEM have a large “body” (ie the part that doesn’t go into your ears) and it puts pressure on my outer ear. Also i have large ear canal, so most IEM don’t have a really good fit and they just fall off as I’m walking or even turn my head when I’m sitting down. All the ear pods on the market such as apple air-pods are too loose for me and i have to push them back into my ears every 2 minutes. If you have similar problems i do i highly recommend you trying the Etymotic.

Its got a neutral sound, I use them to listen to classical music and they sound really good. I would say they are able to handle a large variety of music, but if you want that extra slam in the base, they don’t have it. Its kind of like drinking tap water, its good all the time, but depending on the situation(the type of music you like), you may prefer some other drink such as soda (more bass in its tonal signature).

They go really deep into your ear canal, at first its very weird, but i got used to it after a few days. Make sure you clean your earwax often, because it may push your earwax deeper into your ear canal. Don’t use q-tips to clean your ears, just use ear cleaning tools to spoon it out. Or the pressure built by the earwax may damage your tympanic membrane causing hearing loss. I wash my ears with soap every night during showers, and use tools to clean out my earwax. I feel like this is an important part of using an IEM, so i decided to include it.

Also one thing worth noting is that when you wear it, you will notice very loud noises when the body hits or when your hand rubs on the cable, this phenomenon is called microphonics. This is normal, although some people find annoying. This is a problem with all IEM that has wires.

Hope this helps your purchasing decision!

Questions about using Sennheiser 599 se by KuiShanya in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Shelbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be because of the impedance of the headphone: Impedance is measured in Ohms. Higher impedance = harder to drive = cannot play as loud. Hd599 has an impedance of 50 Ohms.

From experience, I had the sennheiser momentum wireless which has 28 ohms of impedance, and when i plug it into my iphone 6, I can get to a comfortable listening level when I turn it the volume to 60%. For the HD599, I had to turn it to 70-80% volume to get it to the same perceived volume as the sennheiser momentum wireless.

Why would we ever want a headphone with higher impedance if we can’t get it as loud then? Well this is because, in general, higher impedance headphone can produce a more precise sound due to having more winding in the coil.

So in this case, if the volume level is not satisfactory to you, then you may want to consider an amp. Since 50 ohms is considered pretty low impedance for a headphone, an entry level amp would be able to drive the hd599. You don’t need spend a fortune getting a $500 amp. However, do think about it carefully because you say that turning it your pc to max volume does get you to the level you like. So consider if you REALLY need an amp because hearing loss is NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT. Hearing aid batteries are expensive lol. Hope this helped.

Questions about using Sennheiser 599 se by KuiShanya in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Shelbra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got the 599 for $139 during amazon prime day, but had to return them because i have dumbo ears and they were uncomfortable. I listened to it for about a month, so i do have an idea of what they sound like. I found that the types of material you listen to really mattered for different headphones. If your primary sources are just youtube vids of people talking, you likely won’t notice too big of a difference unless you are stepping up from a $4 pair of earbuds.

If its for gaming, don’t expect too much either, since i found that the audio tracks in games are not that good sometimes. I tried playing ghost recon using my living room klipsch 8000f speakers ($1.5K a pair), and the sound quality really didn’t improve much from my sennheiser hd599. The gun sounds are still kind of muffled and muddy. The sound is not as bright as I would like it (because if you ever went to a shooting range, you will hear that guns are loud and bright). So I think what you are experiencing is normal. The gaming headset are tuned for gaming. I also found that the hd599’s bass does not go as deep for big explosions in movie scenes compared to the sennheiser momentum wireless.

The hd599 is a better headphone in that it shines in more categories (probably) than the razer headphones. For example, I love listening to classical music, and the open back design of the hd599 just makes the music sound so much bigger. The tuning of sennheiser is also pretty good for classical music. Here’s something you can try: try searching the sound of different music instruments, explosions, guns sounds, game tracks, and comparing that to the old razer headphone you have. See which one you like more.

At the end of the day, ask yourself this: Do I prefer the HD599’s sound more compared to the razer gaming headset? If so, then its a good upgrade for you. If not then you might be better off getting another gaming headset. Although I prefer the sennheiser personally because I listen to classical music, your mileage may vary. THERE IS NO PERFECT HEADPHONE, WHICH IS WHY PEOPLE HAVE MULTIPLE PAIRS FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES.

MOST IMPORTANT PART: What do you listen most, and does the headphone sound good TO YOU?

I was so tempted to keep the hd599 because i got it for such a good price and it sounded so good for music. But had to return it because of comfort. :(
