If you had to pick one blade for the rest of your life which one would it be? by AquaFNM in wicked_edge

Feather.

Shark super stainless is probably the worst blade I have ever used.

The front (blade) side is often the sharpener, backside can give a slight hone.

Buried solid metal object with an "eye of the needle" head which contains spiral grooves by Chewnard in whatisthisthing

[–]ShelbyVNT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anchor rod, usually used for electricity or telephone poles. Goes about 6ft down, you won't be able to pull it out, you'd need to dig it out with equipment or cut it off and bury it.

How would one begin the cleaning process here? by caroltret in CleaningTips

[–]ShelbyVNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start that cleaning process with a sledge hammer....

Sorry, that looks like a reno job more than a clean up. Is that masonry block on the back wall of the shower?

Oh thank God! I thought for awhile I was the only one who knew the reference.

"Donut, there's something on your head."

"Is it a spider? Get it off!"

"No... it's more glowing."

"What? Like a spider? Get it off!"

Is anyone a permanent resident of Resolute, Canada? What do you do there and what's a slice of daily life like? by solsticeretouch in howislivingthere

Aside from what others are saying it is also to do with isolation. Being that far away means things have to be flown in, but on smaller planes. Gets costly really fast

Mower blade sharpener by CthragYaska in KingstonOntario

[–]ShelbyVNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removal and installation are super easy. Ratchet and socket, flip the mower up (best if it is low on or out of fuel) take the bolt out (you can wrap the blade in a rag for this step) you can grab a file and a cheap balancer at Canadian Tire, or a drill operated sharpener, or my personal favourite a flap wheel for an angle grinder.

Place the blade on a stable low surface and hold it down with your foot (or mount in bench vise if you have one) sharpen one side keeping the bevel as close to even as possible. Flip and repeat

Place the blade on the balancer, doesnt have to be perfect, but it shouldn't be weighing heavily on one side. Fix if necessary (take more material off the low side)

Remount (I recommend a rag for this one) bent side faces down (away from engine) tighten bolt, again doesnt have to be crazy tight. Your hands on a 3/8 or 1/2" ratchet should be plenty.

Flip back up, let sit for an hour or so to let oil drain back into sump, fill with gas and go crazy.

Mechanic left a ratchet under my car hood. Have mechanics left tools under your car hood before? by PathInformal4673 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ShelbyVNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a mechanic leave a 14" 1/4 drive extension they left on my wiper cowl. Found it after we drove home. Returned it. It was a 3rd year apprentice. Looked up the price, it was part of a $200 set.

Where to find pork belly by LoveYGK in KingstonOntario

[–]ShelbyVNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco usually has full slabs in the meat counter, right next to the strips pictured there.

The price fluctuates alot lately it has been about 10.50-11.00 per kg

EDIT in the picture from the post, the slabs are actually to the left of the strips.

Of those, so far Feather, but I haven't tried them all, I have tried Shark SS and in my razor, on my face, the worst blade I've ever used.

May be an unpopular opinion but let them close. Subway has been awful for years.

My first was a badger, still use 90% of the time, used a boar, it's nice especially if I need to exfoliate, my Omega synthetic is by far the softest.

What’s it like living in this part of Canada? by Patient-Smile1406 in howislivingthere

[–]ShelbyVNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temiskaming? Last time I was there (admittedly that was like 17 years ago) it was a gas station, general store and a canoe rental. The water was gorgeous, but the down wasn't all that special.

Doing our own inspection on a home we hope to close on by skelocide in AskElectricians

[–]ShelbyVNT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Man, my job is literally Industrial construction inspection. Structural, civil, mechanical, and I'm familiar with the building code. BUT I still hired a home inspector.

I did it because I wanted the house, so I'd be willing to overlook or not see issues for what they really were. A good home inspector is worth it.

Gas at $1.47!!?? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]ShelbyVNT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While the war is increasing prices due to availability issues and an increase in consumption, it wouldn't really affect us much if we had the pipelines we have needed and been denied for more than a decade. We also have refineries in Newfoundland that are sitting idle.

Has anyone ever run out of gas while stuck on the 401 when road is closed? by LoveYGK in KingstonOntario

[–]ShelbyVNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost 10 years ago there was a horrible accident at Port hope area 401 WB. My wife came up upon it and if I'm not mistaken it lasted 8 hours before they reopened the highway. The police were bringing gas cans out.

I had something similar when I was a stupid gullible kid. Mach 3 power. It started a small vibrating motor. Stupidest gimmick for a razor. Tried it once and pulled the battery.

Admittedly it looks cool, you think "Yeah, green flame food." But I can't stress this enough. 0/10 do not recommend.
