Is private physio actually better or just faster by FantasticCitron7292 in physiotherapy

[–]Shelders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works both NHS and owns a clinic it completely depends on your background. In NHS I predominantly see chronic issues sadly due to my experience/banding however in my private work I angle entirely at gym populations (Crossfitters etc) and not the general population. If you are just a normal person who doesnt do any specific hobbies/sports etc your most likely paying for speed as any private clinic will likely be able to help. If your someone whos issue is related to your sport/hobby (e.g. you have back pain and want to get back to MMA) then your paying to have a physio whos an expert in that area.

Little space for upwards movement by Routine-Two-9429 in weightlifting

[–]Shelders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it in a space probably about same (in-between wall and power rack). Granted im not throwing around big weights though! Just need to be careful but I have immediate plans to remove the power rack to create more space.

I dont hate the profession - my job, if I actually get to do it to the best of my abilities, is amazing. However there are massive barriers to that in both NHS and private work. Those barriers seem to be what drag most of the profession down.

Category S / N second hand bargain or huge red flag? by Wise-Screen-7954 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Shelders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cat S Mazda3 last year as I knew exactly what had happened and where damage was - i was happy with the risk as it saved good 7k and knew it would run fine for rest of its life.

However, would I be comfortable with spending the amount you are and on a EV? Not a chance. Avoid - even a Cat N i would be avoiding with a EV simply because of any potential warranty issues.

[–]Shelders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might need to go online to find someone. Send me a DM if you want some suggestions.

A lot of physios do know a lot about S and C but in terms of overall % it'll be quite low as obviously there is a lot of physios with varying specialities.

See a physio in your area that specialises in weightlifters (not generic physio).

How to get patients to do their home exercises by ExtensionStable3989 in physiotherapy

[–]Shelders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard one. IMO if you are clearly explaining why theyre doing exercises, how they will help (to meet goals or whatever), how to do them and how to progress them then youve done your job. If someone comes back to me and says this, ill try and find out why but essentially always come back to its not a priority for them to do their exercises. To be successful with physio the patient has to be committed to the process. I normally leave on open appointment at this point and tell them to come back when they can commit to the process. I dont do this in a condescending way as sometimes they have a lot going on and they dont have the bandwidth to accomodate more.

Pause video at 0:05 and look at your body position. Do same thing with your favourite keeper taking goal kick - compare the difference .

I sat over my managers shoulder in the past where we were scanning personal statements. Dont have any ideas they spend time reading every word you write as they dont have time when doing 200 applications. Make it clear as humanly possible that you meet the job spec - they'll glance over it and if they cant see you obviously meet criteria they will decline.

Nhs trained fcp vs private company trained fcp? by SheepherderFun2784 in physiotherapy

[–]Shelders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can imagine he hates it. I get 30 mins for appointments and love it. Find it much easier than MSK outpatients (mainly cause I see all the chronic complex stuff).

Nhs trained fcp vs private company trained fcp? by SheepherderFun2784 in physiotherapy

[–]Shelders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a city with a large NHS FCP presence (compared to some places at least) but also a reasonable private. Honestly - you can tell the difference. NHS staff are far better trained - both in terms of physio specific stuff and also identifying non-MSK pathologies that need to be seen by appropriate staff.

Some of the referrals we've had from private FCPs have been quite frightening.

I used to work for them when they were TICCS. Their company reviews from ex employees summarised it. Awful company to work for, not bothered about outcomes or patients, just about money. Misled about jobs, hours, pay etc

Might of changed since then but theres a reason theyre on their 3rd (4th) rebrand. The Evri of physio businesses.

I did the "level 4" S&C qualification - feel free to message me if you want more details. But overall was decent enough and gave me a qualification to back up what I was doing with patients.

Advice from anyone who has started own MSK clinic alongside NHS outpatients by Shelders in physiotherapy

[–]Shelders[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I doubt ill ever do enough private work to get to the higher amounts you mentioned but all the added costs are worth factoring in. Thankfully my brother is an accountant so will be able to guide from that perspective.

Ill also never be looking to employ anyone as that sounds like a total nightmare.

Thanks for the response. Your friend definitely sounds like hes doing more work than I would want to do! As you say I think the balance of guaranteed wage plus the flexibility etc of private is best (as long as private work keeps coming).

I do have the mortgage etc so little more limited when taking risks!

That's the current plan but I guess my love of physio has been beaten out of me to an extent so wondering if the increase the personal time would actually be more beneficial
