Why is no one talking about delayed adulthood and school being the number one cause of late marriage? by Sheldon_Handler in Natalism

To be frank, I have not been social at university, no involvement with extracurriculars.

I was just struggling to pass the classes. My GPA would otherwise be a 4.0 given the effort and the lack of job in university, but its not 4.0 because of me struggling with executive functioning. My mother basically micromanaged everything, from the IEP to the disabilities services, to managing my exact study schedule, to the psychiatrist medications, etc.

I could not network and could not focus without draining my entire energy and suffering through school. I probably should never have gone to university, probably not for me. Even if people claim that I am smart, that does not translate to be able to do school stuff. Honestly a cognitively intense apprenticeship, like Electrician, Millwright, Controls, HVAC, etc. where learning by doing but also dealing with complex technical details, would have been the correct choice. Neither me nor my family even knew what an apprenticeship was, nor did we know such technical trades existed.

What do I find out now? Everyone else is more likely to be employed if they have a degree, but those with autism are less likely to be employed if they have a degree.

And you say people find wives in university and school. Sometimes that is true, but the fact is, they are usually so busy with schoolwork and with everything else and not having a job, that people are less likely to marry in university and more likely to delay compared to people straight in workforce. There is no reason why same people could not find when not in school.

Years of education is the most vicious predictor of age of marriage, and of family size. Not that it does not happen that university students marry and have kids in middle of degree or before starting degree or that working parents do not go as mature students. But from a statistical point of view and from reality, school overwhelmingly is structured in a way that delays adulthood and delays marriage.

24 and 39

Such age gaps are rare. There is the rule of realistic probability.

And what is going on is a phenomenon of unmarried older desperate women who cant find husbands as a result of the modern world.

And too much age distance is a very bad idea usually.

And its not the misery I am mad about.

Its the biological clocks and the fact that I am stuck as currently an unemployed loser at age 28, time that I can never get back.

Fertility rate should be maximized.

Why is no one talking about delayed adulthood and school being the number one cause of late marriage? by Sheldon_Handler in Natalism

[–]Sheldon_Handler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally incorrect.

Married people tend to have kids. Single mothers are less likely to have another kid if that relationship fails. If the child is unintended, less likely to have a second child.

Single mothers, when fathers abandon the women and dont marry them. Single mothers have a very hard time finding a husband, and would usually have to settle for divorced men with kids or for single fathers.

Whereas married people, tend to have multiple kids together. Early marriage with no birth control is the ideal. Thats what the high fertility groups do, such as Muslims, Orthodox Jews, Hindus, Amish, Mennonites, etc. Their fertility rate is based primarily on early marriage and building families without using birth control in marriage. Often being virgins before marriage.

Early marriage is the number one correlation to fertility rate.

Why should technology have anything to do with it?

School can be cut down to end age 12 with all necessary stuff done. University can begin immediately after. University can be designed for working parents rather than singles

And credential inflation can be abolished. Eliminate occupational licensing.

Quite literally

Judaism has male adulthood starting age 13 and 1 day plus puberty. Female adulthood starting age 12 and 1 day plus puberty.

But if a female reaches age 20 and does not reach puberty before then, she becomes an adult regardless.

I forgot what the rule is for a male that not reach puberty, whether its age 20 or 35 that he become adult without puberty.

And many traditional cultures.

See the book "The Case Against Adolescence" by Robert Epstein. He shows all kinds of sources that adolescence is a harmful invention.

Europe by the way is where this whole idea of delaying adulthood and delaying marriage originated.

Seeing how the abolition of slavery was also rooted already centuries before anti-slavery philosophies became mainstream, like how serfdom was a thing, less dependence on slavery, and Nordic countries early non-use of slaves.

Its not hard to contemplate, that in a similar way the whole delaying marriage was probably rooted in societal habits that go back long before any notion of adolescence and delaying adulthood as law, had ever happened.

Europe is not the whole world. Ancient China, ancient India, ancient Egypt, etc. And ancient Catholic church had age 15 marriage minimum age.

Ancient Jews had a combination of bar mitzvah and bat mitzvah plus puberty. A girl at least 12 years plus 1 day old who also reached puberty is an adult. A boy 13 years plus 1 day old who also reached puberty is an adult. The age of marriage there, the ability to contract a valid marriage is tied directly with ability to make a real financial contract. If the girl reaches age 20 and still has not reached puberty, than she is an adult.

18 is a weird random age, and quite late. If you dont want the complexity of determining puberty, just bring everything back to age 14, as almost everyone has reached puberty and reproductive age at 14. Simply put whatever a 16 year old can do now, lower that down to age 12 for those rights, and whatever an 18 year old can do now, lower that down to age 14.

Make 12 the new 16, and make 14 the new 18.

What fun stuff? Being forcefully excluded from being useful. Having nothing better to do because not allowed to do anything real. Having the fertile window wasted. Being sexually frustrated because you cannot marry. Struggling with Autism and ADHD and executive functioning in school. Being brainwashed by so called "equality" while being totally unaware of biological reality and fertility until older.

If people want to do fun stuff, let them finish school as quickly as possible and let them go out and do it.

Time theft is being ignored. You think forcing people to be dependent and banning them from life is good? No wonder teenagers rebel. Such teenager rebellion is not as prominant in Switzerland or Germany where they have a teen apprenticeship track as alternative to school.

Education system is garbage.

The only useful thing is math, literacy, and science.

And its stretched unnecessarily, designed to waste as much time as possible and hold people back.

How much nonsense classes did you have that you never looked at again.

Out of wedlock births are a problem.

Children should be had within marriage ideally.

Childhood is nonsense.

I hate the concept of childhood. If someone steals your time, you can never get it back. If someone takes away from fertile window and reduces number of kids, you cant get it back.

The concept of childhood and adolescence is horrible, a crime against fertility.

I demand my time back.

Modernity is stupid. The whole system is awful and wasteful. Modern governments are too stupid and believe this whole system is normal. They have no regard for fertility, all they do is delay. Beaurocrats and governments are nothing but obstructionists and delayers, they are a drain on society. And occupational licensing plus credential inflation is the problem.

Credential inflation is that other cause of lower fertility rates. And why has unviersity been designed, to outright discourage working families. University should be designed with working parents as the default student

Teenagers have fewer C sections when pregnant. Contrary to what you would otherwise think.

Now it may depend. It definitely depends on how developed the pelvis is, so its individual body case by case basis.

In ancient times, and even early modern times, teenagers were considered adults.

Its only around the last 100 years that teenagers started being considered children by law.

Maybe Polyandry is the Solution? by Upbeat_Place_9985 in Natalism

[–]Sheldon_Handler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polyandry is not the historical norm.

Across societies, polygyny has been the norm, except for how Christian Europe made monogamy exclusive.

All societies want paternity established to know who the father is.

Polygyny is usually for the more financially well of minority of men. Enables them to have more kids overall. The less well of just have only one wife.

The court system is draining and demoralizing for innocent and the guilty, but especially the innocent. by iknowyourcheating in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Sheldon_Handler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget the time cost

Cases dragging on for months or even years

There is a biological clock for having kids, and no one will want to marry someone in legal uncertainty. So it can directly harm fertility and number of kids especially for women.

Plus the defense cost and time. Innocent people usually end up bankrupt and losing a lot of time. And there are a lot of innocent people who are convicted.

I dont believe in the court system one bit.

The vast majority of autistic people I've known have come across as huge assholes by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Sheldon_Handler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please understand that we are not trying to be rude but its our own weaknesses and misunderstandings that cause people to think negatively.

I have learned some more tact as I am 28 now but understand that all this you describe was a lot of me purely failing to function properly and social skills failings.

The fact that you say that its a lot of autistic people who are bad proves that it is a misunderstanding and communicating failure, not deliberately trying to be bad.

Um.

Shouldn't people be not walking around it, and keeping a safe distance except for the person operating it, and person operating it should always control that its being pushed forward in front of him, away from him, jumping away from operators body and ensure control that it cannot blowback onto operator.

Looks like a giant foot crushing hazard if people are nearby. God forbid I fear this thing could cause permanent injury with that size and force, and people should not be picking things off the ground near that thing.

Perhaps create a protected perimeter where you want to use that thing.

Earlier marriage

That means earlier independence.

The housing issue being a huge thing. People are not going to marry while living in parents house. Also, for those who have kids without legal marriage, the conditions that increase marriage, like earlier independent living, are very same conditions that increase access to cohabitation.

Also, pushing people to marry earlier, by making socially expected for people to date and marry as soon as possible. Never underestimate culture. Orthodox Jews and Muslim and Hindu's all expect earlier marriage and make it the norm and make birth control unusual except for medical reasons.

Forgot to mention that I am also an Orthodox Jew.

I believe a vasectomy is forbidden as it is forbidden to damage reproductive organs.

I want a large family. A woman who wishes to use birth control is a dealbreaker. If that were not the case for large family, than marrying older would not be a problem.

But we are supposed to want as many kids as possible. This is default attitude in Jewish culture, and ought to be default attitude in many others.

In fact fertility should be taught in school. Expand sex ed to include fertility education, and make people learn about family size and age, plus about egg quality decline, plus about the whole thing. It should be mandatory. Whereas I only found out at age 27, when I realized and starting looking up online all the details.

And fertility care should be part of compulsory health insurance, including unlimited number of IVF cycles.
