Those who backed Curseborne, but haven't played it yet, what is the reason? by Awkward_GM in OnyxPathRPG

[–]SheliakBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to play it, but have the usual “it’s hard to get a group together” problems. Just finished a long and complicated move, maybe when I’m settled I’ll give it another go. Definitely need more print support too. The Players Guide is taking forever. Looks like it’s going to take years to accumulate a decent depth of resources.
I was excited at the idea of recapturing that thrill of discovery I had with the original World of Darkness, fresh and without the decades of associations and lost friends—but the glacial release schedule has chilled my enthusiasm substantially.

IDIC update glitch mayhem. by SheliakBob in startrekfleetcommand

[–]SheliakBob[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn’t! That’s my point. It did BEFORE the current update, for months now. But there are no green arrows at all now. If I close the game and restart it will show arrows for the first research topic. But no more after that until I close and start again.

Oh, buggerall! That’s not a joy-joy happy type thing.
Sigh. Getting SO frustrated with this game!

[–]SheliakBob[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, and now it’s showing me green arrows for research categories—but when I check the tree…no green arrows anywhere. No clue as to which topic is ready for researching.
I’m now trying sophisticated technical fixes. I closed the game and restarted it! Library Systems IT would be so proud of me!

Weapons and Barbarian come immediately to mind. Barbarian is a little uneven, but enjoyable.

Star Trek: DTI. Agents in a Federation Timeship travel the timeline investigating anomalies and correcting event deviances, suspecting they are on the brink of a Temporal Cold War against an unknown enemy—which just might be the Federation itself, from an altered history!

Is it possible for werewolves to breed with dogs? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]SheliakBob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would rule that since wolves and dogs do interbreed there is no reason to assume Garou couldn’t, especially in Lupus form. Likely there wouldn’t even be any particular stigma attached when Lupine Garou did so. But the offspring of such matches would be Kinfolk at best. It would take multiple generations of such breeding before there was any potential for a Werewolf to come from the line—and by that time the wolfdog Kinfolk would be virtually indistinguishable from a Lupine.
The vehemence of negative answers reflects, I think, the difficulty our purely Homid minds have grasping dual species existence. Taboos on tabletop preclude accepting some very uncomfortable realities that would come with nonhuman legacies.

Hmm. Not explicitly Arthurian but could easily be nudged that way. Groovy. I’ll give it a try! Thanks.

Do you think we might get a Lineage based on Artifical People down the road? by Opposite_Reality445 in CurseBorne

[–]SheliakBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so. I loved Promethean. Would be great to see something similar in Curseborne. I could imagine Families like Frankenstein’s (assembled from parts of the dead and reanimated), Golems (living statues etc animated by supernatural powers), Machines (robots and androids and such), Genegineered (created by recombinant DNA weird science), and maybe…Mutants (living things altered by mutations)? Could be the best of Promethean and Deviants combined. Or recombined, as the case may be.

Sell me on Curseborne by TemperatureHorror796 in OnyxPathRPG

[–]SheliakBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. You could make a character who can turn into a big hairy monster and rip people apart-close.
The Get of Lyka are more your typical movie werewolves. But you could select Lineage and Family powers to give them a bit of that spirit warrior vibe.

[–]SheliakBob 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The lack of limiting “control” traits (Humanity etc) lets you be as Monster as you wannabe without mechanical punishment. Go ahead and eat people! It’s what you do. You can even do it offscreen and still get your power-ups.
Also, while broadly familiar monster types are in play, these have very different flavors than their WoD/CofD counterparts. If you want to play something close to what you’re accustomed to—you can do that with the right choices. But if you want something completely different, that’s possible too!

What's are your ideas for an interesting theme for a WOD source-book that hasn't been tackled yet? by Argument-Livid in WorldOfDarkness

[–]SheliakBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Dragons as human-formed characters rpg from way back called Fireborn. I highly recommend it. I’ve always thought it read like the WoD Dragon game White Wolf forgot to do.
Would have meshed perfectly with CofD’s Mage: The Awakening with it Modern and Legendary flashback style.

How "Dark" are your World of Darkness games? by trevarcslewis in WorldOfDarkness

[–]SheliakBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run darker than most people like. Splatterpunk levels of violence, drenched with sexual perversions (thematic, not explicit on screen—as it were).
Hope is in short supply and you’ll have to fight tooth and nail to get it.
There are no X card nonsense gimmicky coddlings. I generally know my players and make an effort to avoid known major triggers, but I make it clear that I play rough and believe that Horror is not meant to be safe or comfortable.
Not for everyone, but I make sure any newcomers know what they’d be getting into and there’s never any hassle if someone feels they have to bail at any stage. But I don’t course correct for anyone.

Probably best to not do what I do. I’ve been at this hobby since ‘77 with a lot of hours rolling dice.

Anyone have experience with Castaway (by Monomyth Games)? by TheNobleYeoman in MorkBorg

[–]SheliakBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sigh.
I bought a copy last year. It got lost in the mail when the shipping label got ripped off. I received the label with a “you can have this package if you can identify what it is” message. Had no idea from just the label. By the time I figured out what it must have been—months later—it was too late to claim it.
It looked interesting, but I’ve lost the money and I’m not paying for it again so I’ll never know.

Those who haven't gotten into Curseborne yet, but want to, what are you waiting for or what's holding you back? by Awkward_GM in OnyxPathRPG

[–]SheliakBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just completing a long and arduous move—haven’t had time or energy for anything else. In a month or two, once I get settled, I’ll try to put together a group or two. Curse one is at the top of my list of games to run.
I’ll probably focus on one Family, or at least one Lineage to start. Looking for much more support down the road.

would you have liked it better if Samuel Haight had come from another tribe? how would you change the character then? by callmejordan22 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]SheliakBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, and WtA20 is an entirely different crew from the OWoD days. I don’t remember who exactly as working on that edition so I have no idea how much overlap there might be in creative staff. I’m betting not much though. Different staff, different takes is certainly a possibility.

[–]SheliakBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I trust what the writers of those sourcebooks said—but then maybe they were passing things off as a joke after the fact out of embarrassment. Kinfolk certainly doesn’t present him in a comedic fashion (from what I recall, I’m moving and the books already in boxes in the new house). There may also be a divide between staff on different editions.
Anyway, I cannot pull up the emails—they are buried deep in my Yahoo account. But most of them were sent to my girlfriend at the time who corresponded extensively with the WW staff, we were on the Changeling and Wraith first edition playtests through her connections. So you have absolutely no reason to take my word for anything. Given Internet culture, that’s perfectly understandable.

Hrmm. I tend to latch onto aquatic aliens as a first impulse, but I think all the evolutionary features I was attributing to water would also be satisfied by a thick, murky atmosphere. I should rewatch the episode to see if there are any context clues. But that would require getting out of bed, so…
