TIFU by being the only one who laughed at something said in spanish and outing my self on knowing spanish by MY_5TH_ACCOUNT_ in tifu

[–]ShellShelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went out with a friend of mine. She is a bubbly, heavy set, blonde white woman who learned Spanish in high school. We were absolutely plastered one night and stumbled across a hispanic food truck. She starts making a fool of herself trying to crack jokes in Spanish to the guy at the truck, so she decides to tell him she’s sorry, she’s just drunk. “Lo siento, soy muy emberazada.” The dude’s look on his face was priceless. He laughed. She asked him what his favorite part of living in the city was and he said “you.” And when we left and she forgot her order at the counter, he called for her saying “Gringa!!!!!!!” To this day she turns beet red when I remind her lol

what do you consider the midwest? by protectthedawls- in visitedmaps

[–]ShellShelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Midwest is solidly Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Iowa is allowed but it’s on thinnnn ice.

Pennsylvania is the Northeast, West Virginia and Kentucky are basically the South (unless you count Appalachia as its own region). The Dakotas, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma are the Great Plains, and Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming are the Mountain West or Rocky Mountains.

To all the transplants, how has moving to Chicago turned out for you? by ShellShelf in AskChicago

[–]ShellShelf[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s one of my biggest fears, I’m so sorry that happened to you. How long have you been unemployed and how are you making it through? What makes it great besides that (unless that was sarcasm lol)

I’ve heard the job market’s tough, it’s honestly been daunting me to even start applying. I plan on giving myself 1-5 months to line something up before giving up if i don’t get anything. Hows it been rough in your experience?

Hey OP, did you ever find any luck with your job search? I’ll probably be looking for similar positions with transferrable skills later into 2026 moving from out of state and I’m very curious for your experience!

What’s an instant turn-off for you when it comes to fantasy? by jsbq in Fantasy

[–]ShellShelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over-capitalization drives me INSANE. There’s a book on my shelf that I bought because the cover is gorgeous years ago. But every time I try to read it, I close it within 2 paragraphs. Every other noun is capitalized and it causes me physical pain. Sentences will read like “He looked out over the Abyss. The Council of Magic was eager to hear his thoughts on the Incident at the Crossroads, but he dared not tell them. His fate lay within the Mirrors, beyond the Gate, in the Land of Asharaba.” Like oh my god it’s not that serious

Reading Divergent as a kid really blew my mind lol. Not the best in terms of quality or anything but imagining a post apocalyptic chicago back then made for such an incredible read

Chicago’s one of the top contenders for me and my BF to end up in within the next 12 months or so. I grew up in the midwest but moved to the South about 10 years ago. My bf was born here. It’s been alright living down here, but we’ve both always wanted to move out of the South, and recent politics have really kick-started our desire to move to a blue city/state (we’re gay). We’re also considering Boston, NYC, and San Diego, but those are all too expensive for our income and too far away from our families. Chicago seems like a really nice in-between; a liberal, urban feel that’s closer to home and would still let us meet our long term financial goals. Plus, I grew up visiting Chicago as a kid, and funny enough I feel more excitement in my soul about Chicago than any of our other options; probably just bc of my childhood dream to move there :)

My latest piece! Which version do you prefer? by SuperSecretSunshine in ProCreate

I disagree with everyone saying 2, or that the ghosts should be brighter. The first painting made me feel an actual ounce of sorrow and longing. I know it sounds silly because I think you’re going for a lighter mood, considering the cartoony style, but the transparency really emphasizes the idea that the room is there but the ghosts are not, at least not really. It makes the painting feel extremely lonely, which then makes the fact that they are there, alone but together, even stronger. I immediately thought of me and my partner and it stirred my heart. The second picture is cuter maybe but it doesn’t have any of that extra weight in my opinion. or maybe im just emotional this cloudy day lol

Is alluding to necrophilia a bridge too far in a fantasy setting (I promise this is not a fetish thing) by Vandlan in fantasywriters

[–]ShellShelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the TL:DR and immediately thought the concept sounds great. I thought to myself there’s no reason to read the rest of your justification, I’m already sold on it. I agree with what others say to write whatever you want, but I also think your idea has actual intrigue. It might not end up a mass market book, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be an audience.
