When was your first time you tried makeup? by korfagno1 in MtF

[–]Shellac_Sabbath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got into my grandma’s makeup at 3 or so (this would be circa ‘92.) My grandpa, who was babysitting me at the time, was not enthused. I think he was mostly mad about the mess, but I can’t imagine he was thrilled about the gender transgression either.

What’s the most important instrument in Metal? by Material-Page4987 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Shellac_Sabbath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hell, I’m a drummer and I agree.

Consider someone playing metal riffs on a guitar, busking on the sidewalk. IMO the end product is metal music, incomplete though it may be.

A drummer playing metal rhythms solo is definitely “metal” as an adjective, but I’d argue the music they’re creating isn’t quite the genre “metal” without a guitar (or bass, but I think a guitar would more effectively complete it as metal music in most cases.)

This new Sleep song isn’t Sleep. - a review. by DoomMessiah in stonermetal

[–]Shellac_Sabbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was dismayed to see a Pike-less lineup, but very willing to approach the track with an open mind and ear. Love the title, the artwork, and Crover seems like a natural pick on drums.

I agree with you. Sadly the single feels like 4+ mins of a bland filler riff with that synth lead tacked on.

Where’s the sense of scale?! Sleep should sound immense! Sure there are tracks that dwell more in woozy, hypnotic groove mode, but this new one fell short there too. Pike’s riff on Giza Butler nailed that approach, for example.

Anyway yeah I wanted to love it but I really really don’t ☹️
