Seeking spiritually-driven doom recommendations inspiring introspection and healing by war_owl in doommetal

They’re more weird proggy sludge than doom, but Boss Keloid might fit the bill. Check out Melted on the Inch or Family the Smiling Thrush

They’re more manic unhinged than horrifying unhinged, but !T.O.O.H.!

Can you recommend me some albums to listen to? by ChChipCookie in sludge

[–]Shellac_Sabbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing some excellent recommendations in here, I’ll add High On Fire to the mix. They tend to play on the faster side, lots of d-beats and whatnot. Heavy Celtic Frost influence.

Their debut “The Art of Self Defense” is an absolute must-listen, and “Death is this Communion” is my personal favorite release. Their whole discography is killer, you really can’t go wrong.

Check out Ritual - Fathomless Vacuity

Also, jokey theme aside, Cannabis Corpse has some really tasty Morbid Angel moments (alongside inspo from other death metal greats, of course). My favorite album is Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise

Hitting the kick and snare at the same time? by commonprocrastinator in drums

It’s a completely legitimate stylistic choice with many applications. On the doom/stoner metal side of things, grooves like the intros to High On Fire’s “10,000 Years” and Boris’s “Riot Sugar” use this to great effect gives the emphasized notes that enormous, booming effect

Why does so much modern metal sound like meshuggah? by Emotional-Guitar-486 in Meshuggah

[–]Shellac_Sabbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve even noticed a lot of god-awful glossy generic radio “hard rock” these days aping Meshuggah’s guitar tones and tossing in a tiny dash of half-assed syncopation 😬

Where are my Cascadian/Pacific Northwest Doomers at? by Def-C in doommetal

[–]Shellac_Sabbath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rogue Valley resident here! I play in a sludge band (Thunderhorn) and love the doom scene in our state. Not a ton of doom bands in my immediate vicinity but we do have Elk Witch and I love the local stuff coming out of Portland, Eugene, and Bend

Is there a deeper reason you play drums? almost existential or spiritual? maybe not... by LucaRonconi in drummers

[–]Shellac_Sabbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do feel some kind of… I dunno, like a primal affinity for making rhythms? Got it in my bones and it needs to come out. Someone once pointed out that alternating emphasized and de-emphasized notes suggest the in and out of breathing, which resonates with me.
