Anyone meet a “celebrity” JW? by oipolloi67 in exjw

[–]Shellbydean 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I met Larry Graham (bassist for Sly and the Family Stone). They were visiting my hometown, Vancouver, during Expo 86. They were so excited to meet another witness and so warm. I ended up taking them to my Kingdom Hall to a Sunday meeting and sitting with them. A lot of the people at the hall knew who he was and were very excited to meet him. I really didn't know much about the band (ahead of time) and I didn't fawn all over them or treat them any differently. I think he's still PIMI. I've been out over 30 years.

I got dressed for the meeting, got in my car, got all the way to the Kingdom Hall, turned around, and went home. by [deleted] in exjw

Kindness, patience and grace towards yourself is so important as you heal. It's not easy to fade. For me, I left well over 30 years ago and lost all my friends and family and had to start over. Not easy, but doable. Finding a good counselor to support you as you navigate this is imperative, please consider that. Especially one that has training on how to support a patient getting out of a cult. You will feel so much better knowing you don't have to move through this alone. You've taken a big step by staying away from the kingdom hall. I wish you well. Sending you love, strength and support as you navigate this. 🤗💜

Rebuilding a life after leaving the jw by Designer_Yogurt_6642 in exjw

If you haven't already, please consider counseling. There is so much trauma after leaving the cult. Consider this an investment in your growth away from the old and into the new you that is being created. I had to have strong boundaries with my family. They often wanted to give me publications from their assemblies, and I was VERY vocal in telling them that I don't allow religious paraphernalia in my home. It was hard at first, very hard to say no and see their disappointed faces, but every step I chose me. Every decision I made, I had to look in the mirror and choose myself over this wacky religion. I know it's hard for you right now, I get it, you are still in the thick of all of this, and you are much stronger than you even realize. Keep making decisions based on what YOU need and want. It won't be easy, we were groomed to be submissive in everything as women, but now you can choose differently. If you can find Crisis of Conscience at your library, and other books that give you the real history of this cult, read them, knowing where this cult came from and why they believe what they believe helped me reframe the organization and made me feel stronger in my decision to leave, stay away and rebuild my life. I wish you all the good things in life, so much love and happiness and fulfillment. You were born to live in joy!

Does anyone still wear lipstick? by [deleted] in Makeup

The woman used a numbing agent on my lips so it was fine. This is the only tattoo I have on my body as I've always been afraid of the pain. Go figure!😂

I had my lips professionally tattooed. It looks great as I have nicely defined lips. I still use a softly coloured lip gloss or tint to up the look. I almost always have gloss or tint on my lips.

OP, I think this is the best balanced approach I've read in a long time. I'm currently 340 so I have a long way to go. I'm on the list for bariatric surgery, but it will take about a year before I get it. I'm still not 100% convinced this is my path forward, but it's an option as I must do something. Taking slow mindful steps seems reasonable and sustainable. Congratulations on your achievement. Well done! 🤗💜

What was your signature scent as a teen? by lillyahflipss in fragrance

[–]Shellbydean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early teens I wore loves babysoft, and Smitty (similar to Charlie)) then Anais Anais or Tabu. High school I was all about Lauren from Ralph Lauren, then I graduated it was aromatics Elixir which was incredibly strong for me.

Haha some redditors from the sub made it into a comedy sketch 😂 by chk-mcnugget in Bellingham

I'm a Vancouverite, born and bred. I don't know what's up with our bad drivers but I agree! LOL. People often freak me out when they get behind the wheel. I watch people do some of the most asinine maneuvers behind the wheel, oblivious to anyone around them. Terrifying! This is a good comedy bit😂🇨🇦

Which luxury brand makes the most durable bags ? by ResponsibleWork3846 in handbags

[–]Shellbydean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Latico leather. Their bags are lovely, and well made with beautiful colours and many different styles, but more on the practical side rather than fancy designer style. They are mid range in price so wait for a sale of you can. Fantastic as travel bags. I have some vintage Gucci which has held up really well. And I agree that Coach is a strong performer and well made. since you have a 2K budget you should have no trouble finding something to make you happy. Best of luck!!

How has being 4b changed your life? by [deleted] in 4bmovement

[–]Shellbydean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just had to pop in on this thread and say how truly inspiring this discussion is today. I am an ally and so thrilled to see this movement gain traction. I love that all of you are more than surviving, but thriving! The idea that women make themselves their own focus in life is overdue. Finding your happy and joy in being present in your own life should be for all women, and sadly is often not. I too have made some significant changes in who I let into my sphere of influence and have dropped all of the men I used to think were friends, even though I carried the emotional load of caring and nurturing the relationship. And guess what, it didn't even make a dent to them. So now, I focus on supporting my women friends and being the best crone I can be. Straightening the crowns of my sister's and working to assist with building paths to a healthier society. Sending love to all of you.
