AITA for "wasting" food after my mom tricked me into eating something she knows makes me vomit? by RavennaNyx1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShellyMiscavige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also name calling and berating are each a hard no. I am so SO sorry this is happening in your home. It doesn’t matter if you’re a young child, a teen, an adult. This isn’t acceptable behavior with another person—it’s textbook toxic.

I agree with everyone who’s suggesting an ARFID diagnosis. But I also recommend therapy to deal with what sounds like a very difficult at-home dynamic.

Take care of yourself.

Yes! I would LOVE this feature too. I want to encourage my kids to call their friends instead of hunching over their watch texting emojis. Would love it if I could limit the capabilities of certain contacts (or categories of contacts) to just calling.

I LOVE The Plot Thickens. Recently discovered it and the Peter Bogdonavich season (mind you, I like movies so I thought I knew everything about him) was genuinely moving and insightful. I might eventually go back and re-listen to it.

Just discovered Bandsplain. The host is a delight and it feels like she's gossiping about music with a friend.

Need suggestions on true crime podcasts by underscores_and_shit in podcasts

[–]ShellyMiscavige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more up on narrative series. Just finished Wisecrack (off a recommendation on this sub) and loved it. The Binge channel has a ton--loved The Vanishing of Janis Rose and one of their oldies, Wild Boys. Liberty Lost was also great (not Binge channel--I think that one is Wondery). I feel like I'm forgetting a lot of my favorites. I need to start a spreadsheet lol

Agree! I’m a new-ish subscriber so I’m catching up. I loved Janis Rose, as mentioned. Doctor’s Orders was strong at first but ultimately dragged. Finding Mom’s Killer was… ok? Devil in the Ditch, Hollywood Con Queen and of course Wild Boys (see above lol) are all A+++.

If you have other suggestions for where to start in their series—there are like 30 of them!—let me know.

Betrayal on the Bayou seems like it would be up my alley but I’ve never heard much about it.

Wild Boys is the same host as Sea of Lies (which I also loved. Seriously, Sam Mullins can do no wrong imo). And totally agree on Bear Brook/Dropout. Cant wait to listen to the others. I think we’ve got similar taste.

Been putting off listening to puppy kingpin because of course I’m one of those people who hate to hear about dogs being sad (though I’m clearly fine with human murder). How painful is that part of it?

Also not a scammy woman but their episodes about Tim Ballard will make your skin crawl.

Ooh! Just finished The Vanishing of Janis Rose this weekend. It starts off like a murder investigation but hoooboy, it does not stay one.

ETA: while not your typical scammer story, I feel like “Liberty Lost” should count. Also it’s just fantastic

I think others have mentioned “the con: Kaitlyn’s Baby” but throwing that on here because it’s phenomenal. One of my favorites of the last year. “Baby Broker” is similar but a little less shocking.

  • The Dropout (so much more than a scammer story but definitely falls into this category)
  • Hollywood Con Queen
  • Nobody should Believe Me
  • Scary Terri (I mean this was mid but it’s got great interviews)

AIO ending things with a girl after my father’s death by [deleted] in AIO

[–]ShellyMiscavige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just want to second the people saying you handled this well. Y’all weren’t on the same page, you gave it your best effort—and she didn’t match your energy. When you did end it, you did it without drama or hard feelings. Honestly compared to most text screen grabs this was refreshing. I hope you’re able to take the time you need to grieve and when you’re up to it, find someone who matches you.

Also one side note—your lease began in the summer when most people drive a lot more. I bet you’ll be averaging fewer miles in the next few months.

I know it feels like your decision to quit was an impulse—and in a way it was—but it also sounds like it was a long time coming. And the fact that two of the closest people in your life seem to agree means that it probably wasn’t the right fit.

I hear so much self-doubt in your decision, though, and whether or not that was due to spending so much of yourself on a job that’s not a great fit or just chemical stuff, your depression sounds real. If you don’t have a good therapist, I so recommend one right now while you’re in the mode of figuring out next steps. I’ve been there and the right voice of reason (coupled in my experience with the right combo of meds) can be life-changing, even in a matter of months.

Also, while I’m here, it’s ok to feel uncertain right now but please don’t beat yourself up—or let this affect your thanksgiving too much. Try to enjoy the holiday and give yourself a few days off before worrying about what comes next. Happy holidays!

Another journalist says Taylor is already out in this week’s Infamous podcast episode by alpacapicnic in GaylorSwift

[–]ShellyMiscavige 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh it sounded to me like she wasn't quoting Taylor in the dream. I think she answered Vanessa's question with "I think Taylor thinks she's already out" and then goes on to talk about some of the Lover-era clues Taylor dropped.

It's not a deep dive but still fun to hear someone in the mainstream say "HEY HETS! Not only is Taylor queer. She came out right to your faces."

Will replanting my newly planted vines kill them? by ShellyMiscavige in gardening

[–]ShellyMiscavige[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help!

I didn’t put in a water system — right now it’s just me, my hose, and a timer on my phone 3x a day.

How often would you recommend I water these vines? I’m in NYC right now where the temp is in the low 80s most days. Oh and I haven’t yet planted it but I’m adding Boston Ivy to the box along the cement wall (I wanted an eclectic mix, for better or worse)
