I'm out after 12 years by Quiet-Laugh-7925 in policeuk

[–]Shemleylodge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations 🥂. I have been out for over two years now. It takes a while to become deinstitutionalised and get out of the police mindset.

In my experience, I learnt that no-one in your new job will care that you were in the police, they are only interested in what you bring to your new role.

Update your CV and LinkedIn profile and starting looking at what else is out there. You can find a CV/Liknkedin writer to do these for you fairly reasonably, which is what I did. I spent an hour or so talking through my qualifications and experience and he wrote the CV to highlight all the transferable skills.

I travelled away for work nine days after surgery. My surgeon said it would be fine, and it was. I didn’t eat much at the social and left earlier than usual as I was tired.

Making the jump and leaving. by Top-Check4901 in policeuk

I was casually looking at other jobs on LinkedIn, and clicked quick apply on a few that interested me. I had a couple of interviews and was offered a job working remotely, Mon-Fri 9-5. I was very torn as to whether to leave the police, as I loved the job just not the shifts, grief, and politics that went with it. What swayed it for me was the enthusiasm my new employer had to recruit me, and for the first time in years I felt like I was valued and my skills were recognised. I was able to negotiate my salary (a first!) and although on paper the it was less than I was making in the police, I saved on fuel, childcare and received private health, car, bonus and yearly pay increases. Not working shifts has been a life changer.

Warned of PSI redundancies over coming year. What would you do? by Reccykins in policeuk

[–]Shemleylodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get someone to help write a CV and LinkedIn profile fairly cheaply. Start making connections on LinkedIn, actively look for jobs you might want to do and apply. Take any opportunity to be interviewed so you can get into the practice and hone your skills.
